Irem has revealed a few more details regarding R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate, the sequel to the tactical strategy PSP title R-Type Tactics (R-Type Command outside Japan). One of the few things they didn't reveal, however, is just what "Bitter Chocolate" means. I guess we'll find out when we play the game. If it gets an overseas release, that is.

In addition to the expanded unit count we've posted about before, R-Type Tactics II will also feature more story paths and new battle commands. The former makes me think that both sides of the human-centric conflict in the game will be playable. There will also be downloadable missions to extend the game's lifespan.

Other features include local multiplayer and Game Sharing. Seriously, more games should have a Game Sharing feature built in. The smaller ones, at least. Irem has also released the debut trailer for the game, which you can check out below. R-Type Tactics II: Operation Bitter Chocolate will drop down in Japan on October 29.

Will this game be a 3D space shooter or a crap 2D game??? i hate the trailers and the "gameplay" videos of games that show 3D trailers but have sh*t gameplay, kinda like Endwar for psp, it had good movies, but stupid gameplay!!!!!

» 2D? 3D? Why is that a surprise?

Almost all games with the word 'TACTICS' in the name imply a 2D type board game. Some has 3D unit but it is still in 2D game board (even with terrain like FFT it is still.. 2D more or less).

I think the first one is alright. My only complain is that maps are too small, some units are way broken compare to some other. A.I. is pretty much just gang bang your weakest visible unit so if you don't fall in love in a particular unit you can always sac it to fool the computer. Bigger maps, more missions, more big bosses etc would make the 2nd one much better.

» sides?

doesn't look like a two sided war to me, those looked like bydo warships closing in on those two human sides, possibly 3 sides/storys to play, i don't see the bydo being missed out of any r-type game hell they were even in police unit gallop and that was as spin off as it got for the r-type universe
