QuickJump QuickPeek 90: Table-turning console sales stats, re-brewing homebrew and Sega console re-lighting |
Ó
Another action-packed week has come and gone, and although the QuickPeek has not been so quick on its feet the past couple of weeks, rest assured that the gaming news and updates have not been putting up its feet for mere R&R here on QJ.
For this offering of our weekly recap, we see a resurgence of all sorts in the gaming industry. Finally we see a PS3 kicking ass in the sales charts, finally we see another big homebrew breakthrough for the PSP, and finally, it looks like things are definitely looking up for the videogame world in general. It is certainly looking like it's gonna be a happy holidays we're having this year.
Check out our Weekend Warriors and all the other big news-makers for this third week of October, all compiled for your convenience in this week's QJ QuickPeek.
Yes, the PSP
Go is still making headlines. The problem is, the main one we heard
this week wasn't exactly flattering. The Go has been getting a mostly
lukewarm reception since its launch earlier this month, and the trend
continues in Australia.
There's a silver lining, though: overall PSP sales have reportedly gone
up since the Go hit retail. Sony most probably have software sales to
thank for that. Oh, and maybe the Go's making people buy PSP-3000s.
Just speculating. For the facts, hit the jump and check out this week's

Due to some unforeseen bugs mucking up the works, custom firmware 5.50GEN-C at the start of the week turned out to be more underwhelming than we hoped. Good thing Team GENyUS was able to roll out a new revision a few days after, with another update launching in the days that followed. 5.50GEN-C may have set the week off on a sour note, but thanks to 5.50GEN-D things still turned out for the best. Read all about what else happened in the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior.

So what
transpired in the world of Sony's PS3 this week? Nate Drake's newest
adventure is certainly off to a good start. And then there's word that
the PS3 is continuing its newfound sales spurt in the land down under.
Oh, and here's a no-brainer: rumblings about new entries in two of the
PS3's biggest franchises have started to trickle out from the rumor
mill. All in all, another good week for the PS3. Well, except maybe for
that one particular console they threw into the Bravia. It didn't seem
to get too banged up though.Link: PS3 Weekend Warrior
It's been a
while, and a lot of things definitely happened this week
for the green blog. We have here some buzz pertaining to the supposed
inclusion of Blu-ray into the Xbox 360, an expected subsequent denial,
and piqued interest as to this possibility and more. On the games
front, we've got a slew of add-ons and new releases, as well as
record-making/ record-breaking game sessions. Catch up on things you
might have missed this week on the Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior.Link: Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior
Looking back
to the week, it seems that both publishers and homebrew developers were
able to deliver on their respective forms of output. We've got
trailers, images, and stats for the the games, while devs got busy and
released updates for their respective brew. You might want to check up
on all those - you won't regret it. Compiled for your navigating ease -
it's all here in the Nintendo Weekend Warrior.Link: WiiDS Weekend Warrior
More games trickled into the App Store this week, including the
much-awaited iPhone and iPod Touch iterations of two big names:
Earthworm Jim and Rock Band. More is expected to follow with the
announcements of Ghosts 'N Goblins and Garters & Ghouls. But while
games are packing into the App Store, one game gets an unfortunate boot
out of the App Store, and it might not be your typical infringement
case.Link: iPhone Weekend Warrior

We've gotten more statistics-happy in the past couple of months, especially with the advent of the console price cuts and the arrival of Sony's new handheld. Undoubtedly, this new surge of hardware activity helped in the resurgence of interest in the console wars that's been characteristically quiet due to the economic slump. This week, the PS3 is shown to be showing good numbers as it makes its way past the Xbox 360 and Wii - for both the US and Australia numbers, and the PSP packing a whopping 100% increase in sales.
