QuickJump QuickPeek 89: Of the broken, unbroken, and persistent reparation |
Ó
We're getting closer to the last ten QuickPeeks before we hit our first 100th issue! But before that, there's so much more to look back at in just this past week alone. The individual Warriors are all fired up, each of them having their fair share of controversies to address. From broken firmwares to debunked rumors of firmwares, broken street dates, and broken company reputations, we have them all right here, so just jump right in and dig in.
Gaming:
We're less that two weeks away from the PSP Go's launch but it looks
like people are still very divided over it. It's not just the gamers
too -- even retailers are torn. Some have predicted its failure while a
few have even outright opposed the handheld and Sony's download-only
model for it. Sony, on the other hand, seems all set to follow through
not only with the Go, but with the PSP brand as a whole, as rumors (and
history, really) suggest that there are more hardware iterations in the
pipeline.Link: PSP Weekend Warrior
Last week's announcement of a new CFW in the works was marred by cries of shenanigans from the homebrew community. We already touched on that a bit in the previous edition of the PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior, but the issue didn't stop there. In the past seven days, we saw new videos both backing up and debunking the one that Team Mack showed. Read on for the rest of this week's PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior.

The PS3 may have lost its throne to the DSi in the Japanese hardware
charts this week, but the PS3 blog has continued to see big news. We
saw a spat between the BBC and Sony,
problems fixed and problems caused by a new firmware update, and the
release of the demo for what promises to be one of the great PS3
releases of the year, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.Link: PS3 Weekend Warrior
It's been a hectic week for Microsoft, what with the big game Halo 3: ODST
coming out to the market pre-maturely than they would have wanted. They
also had one of their top execs, Shane Kim, move out, and in his stead
were two Xbox execs. No time to wallow indeed, especially when you have new hardware coming
out, like the new Zune
HD. Let's see how they fare in the coming days. But for this week, I'd
have to say, MS did a pretty good job holding up to the stress.Link: Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior
"Price cut" seems like the console mantra for months now, putting the
pressure on major players in the industry to take a bit off their
hardware price to stay competitive. Nintendo, so it seems, remains
adamant about not lowering the Wii price, despite five months of sales
decline, possibly going six. If Nintendo won't, then the retailers may
be taking matters into their own hands, with rumors of price cuts
surfacing anew.Link: WiiDS Weekend Warrior
The iPhone DevTeam does it again, releasing the jailbreak for OS 3.1
barely a week after it was released. Those who've been waiting for this
one can now breathe easy and rejoice - the latest OS update from Apple
isn't gonna keep you from taking full advantage of your iPhone. Get the
goods on that, plus info on the usual slate of games, right here on the

Industry:
Somebody's been caught trying to put on a pretty face for their Wikipedia page. Koei Tecmo got themselves warned by Wikipedia for supposedly editing out their own profile in an attempt to edit out the bad memories that transpired last year, which they obviously don't want people (and themselves) to be reminded of anymore.

Bungie must be doing something right to get a special mention from Capcom's main man, Keiji Inafune. In fact, it's not just a special mention, it's almost an invitation to get together on a project. Let's just say he's expressed that he's "interested" to work with the Halo creators.

Yeowch! A John Hopkins University student finds himself in hot water now after he slashed to death a robber who broke into their house. Apparently, they were already broken into before, during which they lost a PlayStation and a couple of laptops. Not this time around, though. This time he was ready.

This week's hardware sales stats show Nintendo's DSi grabbing back it seat on the throne after making way to the PS3 for the top spot. Everyone else should bow down to the DSi, if only for it's persistence as the number 1 best-seller among the gaming gadgets we have around.

TGS 2009:
We've got another major event coming up, this time happening in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan's famous Tokyo Game Show is opening its curtains, and of course, devs and publishers alike want you to know that they are fully prepared for it.

That's it for the 89th week of QuickJump QuickPeek! Just ten more weeks to go, and were down to the big first hundred-double-oh! That's definitely something to celebrate!
