QuickJump QuickPeek 88: PAX 2009, (non)movers in sales charts, adn those who remain though we don't see them |
Ó
Another action-packed week for QJ with QuickPeek 88. Price cuts happened, hardware sales charts came out with their results, and developers and publishers alike came out once again from their magical gaming factories to hawk their wares at the PAX 2009 event held in Washington.
You don't wanna miss this trip so jump right in to this week's QJ QuickPeek edition below.
The PSP Go, which Sony is apparently banking on to stop the rampant
piracy on their handheld system, isn't even here yet but talk about
another PSP revision is starting up again. These rumors never really
stop, do they? At least the week also saw a few more big-name updates:
a pair of bundles for Gran Turismo, a tighter release window for Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, and what's this? Sibling rivalry between the Rising and Peace Walker teams?Link: PSP Weekend Warrior
The good news is, Dark AleX isn't leaving the homebrew scene. That's what Dark-AleX.org webmaster announced earlier this week. The bad news is, not a lot of homebrew traffic went past our PSP blog during the past seven days. Still, there's a little something for homebrew aficionados past the jump. Hit it and check out this week's PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior.

Things are
starting to settle down on the PS3 blog. The Slim's out but we won't be
seeing if it has had any significant effect on the console's sales
until the NPD report for September comes out. What we do have this week
though is another long-ago rumor that came true: a Blu-ray compilation
that contains God of War and God of War 2. That's not all, of course, so just hit the jump and check out the rest of the PS3 Weekend Warrior.Link: PS3 Weekend Warrior
It's been a busy - and good - week for Microsoft. Not only did they
successfully implement the price drops, they've also successfully
reaped in the benefits. Too early to say, yes, I know, but with a
strong number of 43% up in sales (even if it's just for the Xbox 360
Elite),
it's no wonder there's more bounce in their steps as of late.
After all, they're not at the bottom of the pile when it comes to
hardware sales, if you catch my drift. But hardware is not the only
thing that went on this week, especially not when another gaming event
is going on. So jump right in!Link: Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior
Nintendo's still not giving in to the lures of a price drop, and
really, why should they? They have the two bestselling consoles in this
generation, both home and handheld. If you think about it, they can
afford to keep the Wii at its price point. The good thing though is
that this week, they've started making a few concessions. Well one,
really. Read on for more on that, little wolf pups and adventures in
censorship in the rest of the Nintendo Weekend Warrior.Link: WiiDS Weekend Warrior
It looks like the App Store will soon be home to a pair of big Rockstar
games. OK, truth be told, just one of them's been well and truly
confirmed as 100% certain, but saying two's better than just one,
right? Read on for the week's happenings in the iPhone Weekend Warrior.Link: iPhone Weekend Warrior
Industry:
It's still looking to be a bad week for the PlayStation 3 this past week as it remained in the bottom rung of the hardware sales ladder in Japan, according to Media Create. That's two weeks in a row. Waiting to see if it'll get better.

Take-Two has affirmed its commitment to the online gaming industry, saying that they're definitely not ignoring DLC, although retail is still obviously the way to go. Simply put, there's just too much of a big market in DLCs that they can't miss.

Ex-UK Prime Minister Tony Blair's immediate family is in hot water as they are criticized for getting themselves involved in Magnitude Gaming, a company that has handled a team that played Counter-Strike. Wife Cherrie and son Nicky are serving as directors for the gaming firm.

The headline alone is enough to make heads turn to Toronto. The industry's resident cutie is now the big boss of Ubisoft's Canada office. Send her flowers for congratulations.
