QuickJump QuickPeek #61: Of the PSP resurrection, PS3 (non)decryption, Nintendo pirates, XBL lesbian profiles and iPhone, "the PSP killer" |

Another QJ week has come and gone. Imagine that. Things sure happen real fast, don't it? But not as fast as the updates we got for the past several days. This week was particularly full of controversies (just when you thought you've heard them all, the gaming industry outdoes itself with even bigger ones the next week).
From rumors galore, to wonderful confirmed games releases, to advocacies and penalties, we've got it all covered here. So for those of you who can only afford a few minutes of time to linger in front of the computer (gotta hustle to bring home the dough), we present to you QuickJump QuickPeek #61.
Big, big updates for the PlayStation Portable. Karl asked the right question in this week's Weekend Warrior: who said the PSP was dead? Well, a lot of people did, admittedly, I was one of them who thought it was on its deathbed. Lo and behold, I - along with the other naysayers (admit it, you were one of them, too!), have been proven wrong. And I honestly couldn't have been more pleased about it!Remember last year when Koller kept saying that 2009 is gonna be a big year for the PSP? and that they were not abandoning the platform, but was in fact shopping around for publishers and developers, even educating them on the features of the PSP so they can develop better for it? Turns out they were exactly doing just that.
The proof? The grand PSP games list they came out with this week. LBP, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, and MotorStorm are but some of the titles announced -- and they say that's just the tip of the iceberg. Koller's proven himself credible on this one. I have no reason to doubt that there will indeed be more. Hurrah!!! Now let's see them pull this off.

And that's just on the gaming front. On the homebrew end of things, No Gravity has officially crossed over to the mainstream. Yeah, that makes it not quite homebrew anymore, but we do pay homage to its (even then not-so humble) beginnings from the brew community. And on top of all the cool apps and games released, AhMan blows everyone away with a preview of the things yet to come for the next iR Shell version.

Hoozah! God of War 3 gets more spiffy details, teasing us even more, while Warhawk touches base on the PS Home. And what's this? An actual decryption of the retail PS3's HDD? Not too fast. Hold that champagne cork-popping hoorays. It's a fakery! That's what they say.But of course, also making a killing this week is the release of Killzone 2. Yeah, it was streetboken, but tsss, what's new? Meanwhile, more "predictions and forecasts on a PS3 price cut being inevitable this year. To that, Sony sings, "They tried to make us give a price cut, but I say no, no, no." And more.

Who's in the hot tub? And believe you me, it's anything but relaxing. Microsoft found itself in hot water once again, as another of their XBL users got banninated for identifying herself as being gay, putting in "Lesbian" in her profile deets. It's not hard to imagine what kind of hell broke loose when she relayed her story to the Internet world. Go on, imagine. And that's on top of being called a "dumb PC." Burn. But on the upside, they're still getting all the big fish with exclusive DLCs and whatnots. Fallout 3 PC and Xbox 360 gamers are grinning all the way to the heavens, I believe. As for the zombies in RE5, this is their last dance, Capcom said. More gaming news in the Warrior.

It's been a quiet week for the Wii and DS blogs, but not too quiet that we won't have anything to talk about here on QuickPeek. There's quite a number of rumors hounding the Wii platform, with the likes of Silent Hill and "The After Years" buzzed to be making an appearance. And more classics are on their way back to provide for nostalgia. We're sure you wouldn't want to miss that. But the biggest bit for the WiiDS this week is that mothership Nintendo is getting antsy with all the piracy that's been plaguing their wards. They're angry, and we just might see them turn a hulky green. Or pink, or blue, just like the new DSi colors making its way to Japan.

iPhone joins us this week as a surge of new games were announced for the device that's out to "kill" the PSP. Uh-huh. Then again, it's not that difficult to understand why a lot agree. The've got great games coming their way. How great? Try Quake III and Wolfenstein great. And their homebrew scene is just as kicking, with exophase releasing his port for the TurboGrafx-16 Temper brew, temper4iphone. But that's not all, so check out the iPhone Warrior.

On the QJ front, we've been busy ourselves here, delivering you news and features that you want and need. For homebrew fans out there, we continued with the QuickGuides and How-To series to not only help out the newbies, but also to stroll down memory lane once again with the more senior members of the community.
This week on QuickGuide, we served up the second and final part of the OFW and CFW Database, which we then quickly followed with the How-to on CFW Installation. We hope that was particularly helpful to you guys! There'll be more in the coming weeks, and we promise to make them even more exciting and helpful.

On another front, we've expanded some more our means of communication with you, dear readers, through the activation of our messenger accounts. See, we want to hear what you guys have to say, be it for a brew you're working on or just to have a casual chat.
Some have suggested that we have a chat room instead, but unfortunately, we feel at this point that that would be biting off more than we could actually chew. We still gotta write news, you know. ;P

And now for our weekly CoW. Actually, am finding it pretty hard to choose one specific wow comment this week. A lot of intelligent discussion's been made, and there's no one person alone who deserves to be credited for it. Especially stirred up - and still stirring - would be the comments section for the XBL Gamertag issue. Two sides of the coin have been argued, and most of the points are valid on their own.
So, I'd like to tip off my hat to all those who took the time to put in their sensible two cents, and for contributing to the dialogue. Although we weren't all agreeing, at least we all learned something from each other, yes?
So keep it up guys, we're definitely looking forward to more healthy, intelligent discussions right here on QJ. We've got more for you in store this week, so just keep us company, ayt?

I know you all think "big deal", but I think its either that me and the QJ Team have the same kind of minds, or that they copied me, without mentioning me! :(
I would have loved to get comment of the week! ;(
P.S. QJ Team, It will be good to get a reply and find out we "think alike"!
