I definately ain't upgradin my machine till there comes a downgrader or DevHook can run an emulator for it.. I get too much fun out of the other emulators n homebrew I'm runnin.. it'll happen.. and they do say all good things come to those who wait :D And just another quick note on it.. by the time they do have the means to run it on a 1.5 the .cso or .iso file of the game will be out there so Rockstar might find the sales a little lower.. not that i condone the use of bootleg games ;P

As I have said previously, it would have been extremely foolish for Sony to release the biggest and most anticipated game on the Psp only requiring firmware 2.71. I knew it would require 2.81 or more and im sure hardly anyone is surprised. I am also sure there will be a few noobs who will upgrade and then complain later on when the new version of Devhook comes out. To anyone saying GTA is more fun than homebrew, what ever happened to giving yourself more options. With patients we can have both but without you only have commercial games and nothing else.

Hmm, Not too many of these games are infrastructure mode. GTA:VCS is NOT infrastructure mode enabled. So you cannot play this game online. Quite lagggy one would think. FTB2... I dont think i'd ever buy it. Dont know about that one, never really liked it as much as other shooters of the genere

I mean this happened with the first GTA on PSP requiring the 2.0 firmware update. And what did it spark? A freaking firmware war!!! It started the mphgameloader and runumd and later on the amazing thing we now love called DevHook. So people people, don't worry. The homebrew community is always hard at work at this stuff. Another amazing hack will be soon to come and all will be fine and dandy(yes both fine and dandy at one time). These new people are just freaking out and it cracks me up. A ton has happened in this past year and when I look back it's really quite ridiculous. oh well. power to the people.

Yes this game has the 2.81 update but in fact it only needs 2.71 which can be easilly overpassed by using devhook with the 2.xx -> 2.00 on. Anyway bad move, Sony!

I don't (didn't) mind buying games, but sony shouldn't force people to update their firmware just to play the latest games. I don't have to update my Nvidia drivers/firmware on my PC every time I buy a PC game, and I have the option to "downgrade"/reinstall a previous firmware if I choose. Sony should accept the fact that the PSP is just a hand-held PC. With all that said, I love the fact that my 2.71 SEB' plays ISOs & CSOs without DevHook. :)

People who don't buy their games are just mad because they can't afford them anyways. How they can afford a $200 dollar hand held and not the games goes beyond me though. They probably stole their PSPs as well. As for DS being more "innovative," don't even get me started on that. I've seen the so called "amazing" DS games...if Nintendo Dogs, Brain Age, Disney games and Mario games are your thing, then that's fine...but I'll stick with my 21 bought PSP games, all which are better than even the best DS games available. Go look at any local retailer, I bet 45% of the DS games are Disney, 50% are Mario games, and another 5% are various other crap games that are praised because you can navigate the menu system by touching the screen...sounds like a blast!

So this was disturbance in the force I felt during school today. That sucks. We'll it would be kind of stupid for SONY not to make it require 2.81, so whos to blame. Well actually, SONY cuz they have to hate hombrew so much. Its pointless to me that they always need more security updates, cuz whos going to upgrade?! I'm not for sure and I know more than half the people I know who have PSP, ( which is about 30) has homebrew. I'm just dissapointed with SONY. If they want us to love their PSP let us do what we want with it.

Why im updating: -lack of good homebrew(last good thing that i could remember,was the update the N64 emu) -This is 5x better then LCS even with cheat dev. -If you wan't to play ps1 games at full speed your going to need to update anyway.

The torrents that everyone keeps mentioning are fake and contain viruses. I was going to try to get a torrent early before my preorder got here to see if it worked with devhook or not. But all the comments about the torrents that I have found (3 total) say they are fake and contain viruses so if you are downloading one now stop. I'm just trying to help out, the ones I am talking about is one rar file that's about 647mb. I guess I will just wait for mine to get here and rip my own iso to see if it works. Also as others have said just because it has 2.81 on the UMD does not mean that it needs that to play it.

i just tried to install sony's 2.81 firmware on a brand new psp, the real thing from the sony us site...and it bricked!!! i don't know what happened, but sony's updates bricked my new psp!!! this means the custom firmwares taken from the net have as many chances of bricking as the real thing? good to know, of course, wal mart refunded the bricked psp, but still...a sony upgrade...as if they didn't piss us off enough with them, now they have a chance of bricking our psp's...i may be overreacting but this is unacceptable.

It DOES NOT require 2.81 to play. If there was no forced update, you'd still be able to play it. NO PSP GAME required a firmware. Not one single one. It only FORCES you to. How do I know this? Rip the UPDATE folder from the ISO, and it will work perfectly.

well....its just a matter of time before it is hacked. instead of *****ing about it give thanks and praise to dark alex for the awsome 2.71 custom firmware. did anyone else have a problem with the memory stick you used to flash no longer working? it freezes when i try to get to the game off the dashboard. but all the others work fine. anyway...praise to dark alex and all who help us. now the real job is the 3.0 firmware. that is gonna be cool. ps1 games on the psp??? awsome.

DS is currently on top because its cheaper, and why is it cheaper? - because beside the touch screen (like I care!!), everything that come with it just s**ks!! PSP is a more powerfull system and better system values more! the so called original games of Nintendo stuffs are the mario family and will always be the marios - sick of it! most likely games are for children and their parents buy it for them! parents go for cheaper system, not powerfull system, right? That's why DS's are selling good! so, I bet Revolution will be just the same - to compare with 360 and ps3! I never admired a single Nintendo system since their early ages! eventhough they introduced new systems, one thing never change, the graphic s**ks! I prefer the psp over the other system, even more than my ps2! Maybe the article is implying to play the original UMD disc, not the ISO which can be modified. Personally, im buying this title and playing the RIP (or rip it myself and play it over memstick). Why buy it? Its a top game! Why rip it? Preserve my UMD, save some battery life by playing off memstick and keeping homebrew alive (i grew up on sega master system :) One thing ill never understand about the PSP, is why the game media (UMD) are so poorly designed...

I Won't Upgrade For This

I like gta like any real red blooded hardcore gamer but I won't make the mistake to upgrade anymore unless something better comes out like the Playstation emulator or at least until I get a 60gig PS3, as long as the features are there when I get it. I started with a 1.5v PSP and now it is upgraded to a 2.6v. I upgraded for Liberty City Stories and sometimes I wish I didn't. Anyway you might be able to pick up a PS2 version of Vice City Stories for $20 like they did for LCS, that is if they don't ditch the PS2 when PS3 is released.

Question on running VCS on Devhook

I know you'd have to set the thing to "firmware 2.xx" or something... you know... But is the ISO Release (pirated stuff, I mean) edited in ANY manner? Did they change ANYTHING from the orginal ISO rip (except ripping music and stuff... I'm talking about system files, prx and such)???? I'm asking this cause I'm going to buy the UMD and I don't have space to put the dump on my memory stick... Will I BE ABLE TO RUN THE UMD THROUGH DEVHOOK EMULATION

Well I can get this to work on 2.71 SE-B as an ISO form so If you have the game you can just copy it to ISo and change the FW files that are 2.81 to 2.71 and delete the UPDATE folder as well. Doesn't seem to be FW dependant on anything specific, like GTA:LCS was. If you need help changing the files Ill make a tut on anotehr site since this site won't let you talk about ISOs even though your gonna need to own the game to do this.

I can 100% confirm that GTA VCS works in 2.71 SE B2 using UMD Mode. I originally purchased GTA VCS from Liksang but since my order was cancelled due to Liksang's closure by Sony I decided not to purchase the game at all.

I think you guys need to look at it this way. If anyone ISNT going to upgrade to 3.0 then they are quite a fool. The vast amount of features planned make the psp even better. No, PSP Updates is telling it like it is. The actual game (UMD!!!) will not work with devhook. The ISO might, but that's not the issue. As far as I knew this website doesn't advocate piracy. Sure, you can rip your own iso, but the point here is still the same: GTA VCS UMD will not play with devhook. PERIOD. Only ISO. There exists an ISO released by psy that does work with Devhook. HOWEVER... If you purchase the UMD, you will NOT be able to run the game from the UMD even with devhook. You will need to update, rip the UMD to an ISO and patch manually or download the psy release and run from that ISO. Again, YOU CANNOT PLAY FROM THE UMD WITH DEVHOOK!!! I have confirmed this myself; the game will NOT launch on my 1.5 PSP when emulating firmware 2.71, even with the "2.xx->2.00" option selected.

hi, just to let every1 know, i've just dwnloded GTA VCS (1.6GB ISO/915meg CSO) and it works on Devhook fw v2.71. i am running Dark_Alex's 0.46 Chaos Zero Devhook emulating v2.71 and this works perfectly with GTA VCS (watching intro @ the moment). : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) i'm not doing anything illegal as i am going to purchase the game as soon as it comes out - just checking if it will work on v2.71 emulated PSP. no point in buying a game & then later realising that it wont work & u'll have 2 upgrade from the golden firmware.

Vice City Stories is NOT a 2.81 game. it's a 2.71 game, using 2.71 PRX's, on a UMD that requires 2.81 unnecessarily except because sony wants everyone to upgrade. if you buy the game and rip it (or otherwise get the iso but i suggest paying for it even though torrents work fine) and use devhook .46 with 2.71 installed through devhook, then load the iso through the devhook launcher from 1.5, your psp will play VCS perfectly. not to mention, it's like 10x faster to play a game off the memory stick rather than the UMD drive simply because the UMD drive is TERRIBLY slow. ape escape is a great load time example, it's the first game i bought and i couldn't stand how slow it loaded, but i ripped it and put it on the pro duo and all the load problems were gone. going from island to island in VCS is almost instant in .iso format. UMD is DEAD!
