PSPVNCUpdate: zx81 never fails to amaze us! Within a few minutes of releasing PSPFTPD, he has now released an updated version of PSPVNC, another kickass homebrew application. It allows you to control your PC using your PSP.

It seems that the DHCP bug must've been troubling both PSPFTPD and PSPVNC, since the only fix in this updated version is that DHCP bug. Apart from that fix, he has also remapped the Home button to the L Trigger + Start keys.

As always, he has bundled together a 1.5 binary and the sources. The download link can be found at the bottom of this article.

PSPFTPDzx81, being the homebrew developing machine that he is, has just released an update to PSPFTPD taking it to v0.3.6. PSPFTPD by the way allows your PSP to function as a fully fledged FTP server. Yes, that's right, an FTP server! So if you're feeling lazy and don't feel like connecting the USB wire, or if you've misplaced it, you can just fire up the FTP server and connect to it using your PC.

The new version fixes a lone bug related to DHCP functionality on firmware 1.5. Now if you've never tried this application, let me be the one to recommend it to you guys. Once you get used to it, it's hard to give up such functionality. And since it's a release from zx81, you can expect the source code along with the 1.5 binary.

sorry i'm so dumb...but what the hell is a ftp server and what would it be used for. i've been in the scene for a while now and frankly i really wish people would be a little more specific on stuff they release and expecially with abreviations. help those of us out who don't have a usb cable dangling out of our asses please. by the way...thanks!

» Not Useful At All - An PSP FTP Client is Needed

A PSP FTP client is needed over a PSP server. If I am sitting at my computer, it would be dumb to ftp things around rather than use the USB. However, if the PSP is running an FTP client, then thats different, I can be miles from my computer. Not a useful app at all.

If you dont like it, dont download it. Just because you think its useless dont mean it is. So shut your trap little peace of *****. Gosh you people are the worst.

» Why WHYYYYYYYYY

zx81 always does this; he releases an 'update' and then updates it again within a few minutes, just to increase his/her popularity. I bet he has some updates and just adds them in a few minutes later.

» ZX-81! You're the man!

These are two of my FAVORITE programs for PSP! I am SO GLAD that someone is working on them again. If you can't appreciate them, you are obviously too dumb to know how to use them properly.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

I AM EAGER TO SEE MORE UPDATES TO THESE PROGRAMS!

» What are the controls once you are connected?

What are the controls once you're connected? When I first connected, I just happened to have a Mozilla Firefox window open at the time. I was really excited, so I decided to close it with my PSP. I used the analog stick to go up to the corner of the window, and then I used the "X" button to click the X in the corner, the one that closes a window. That worked, so it seemed that the PSP's X button was like a mouse's normal click, or left-click button. But when I used the X button to open a folder on my desktop, it wouldn't open. Sometimes, when I hit X, it would end up right-clicking instead of left-clicking. Now i'm very fustrated with this, because I can't figure out the controls. The read me file that comes with the program doesn't say the controls. Can someone please help me?

Hey zx81, awesome with the bug fixes:)

» help is here for FTPD

this program is great by the way.

you will need a WLAN and the internet.

once you have copyed the FTPD program files over to your PSPs memory stick.

then disconnect your PSP from the computer.

you will need a WLAN settings on your PSP before starting the program.

when you have finished setting up the WLAN, then start the FTPD program on your PSP.

and select a WLAN setting and when that finishes it will say some thing like "FTP is now running on FTP://xxx.xxx.x.xxx" (the XXXs are numbers).

now go on to your computer and open internet explorer and type in the address bar "FTP://" and the numbers.

you should now see the files on your memory stick from your computer without using a USB cable connection.

PS. I whould just like to say Great job to ALL of the Homebrewers out there, some people may put you and your programs down, but just remember that we all still love your work,

Thank you all for reading this,

"what KB transfer rate"

"i'm getting 487KB/s via WiFi in FTPD

is it possible to get faster speed?"

_______________ _______________ ____

i wouldn't really know but

it could be your internet download speed.

or it could just be the FTPD programs speed.

or it could be the PSPs WiFi speed.

i tryed to help.

» Thanks zx81

These updates rule. PSPVNC is one of the BEST. Now that DHCP works, both of these apps will work great in an anonymous hotspot.

FTP = File Transfer Protocol (offer files with this FTP Server, download files using any FTP Client) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Transfer_Protocol

VNC = Virtual Network Computing (This is a VNC Client to use your PSP for viewing while controlling mouse and keyboard of a different computer that is running a VNC Server - wirelessly!!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VNC

#31, I agree. What a scary concept, to route your ftp login through a third party web site all with the stated promise that it penetrates through firewalls etc. Outch, better to have a secured ftp client in the works. I wonder if filezilla would ever get ported to PSP.

I believe the next release of Peldet will have SSH. (Unless the current one already does, but I know danzel said something about SSH in the next release).

by Decon - 2006-07-26 18:41
» web2ftp

Ftp is a pretty unsecure protocol in the first place, it isnt a big problem crack it. If you want a secure connetion you should be checking out ftps or sftp

@all: thx

about web2ftp, i mean if you want to download files that are on anonymous ftp, it's a good way to do it. If you want to download files from your own site, why don't you use apache/ https instead of ftp ;)

» Xbox?

how is it possible to use the portable vnc with an xbox.... it has a host thing for it.

by DrNicket - 2006-07-26 21:44
» XBox.

I'm guessing, but I believe it'd work. It may need special coding to function however.

Try pointing it at your Xbox's IP instead of the computer's and just see what happens. (I'm a noob with VNC so consider yourself warned).

» feature request for pspvnc

it's very nice to see that someone talented like you is trying improving such a great homebrew application, great !

may i ask for a dns to ip conversion option ? what i mean is when you're adding a host you need to enter the ip address, but if we could just enter the domain name of the pc which we'll connect to that would be really awesome. i request that feature bacause i use dynamic ip and a automatic dns updater software. i now that you're not the author of this software but maybe you can add that feature, thank you.

PS: I'm dying to see the next release of PSPVBA, please don't stop working on that, you have my full support, and the biggest of thanks.

by Dartan - 2006-07-28 01:37
» I agree ;-)

#42 Yeah domain for dynamic ip would be great! I requested the same thing for Pimpstreamer and got no reply :-( ... maybe it's harder to do than to code it for ip address
