PSP-to-Vita Transfers are Account-Based

Ó

Last week, Sony announced that PSP owners would be able to move UMD content from their PSP devices directly to their Vitas (for a small fee, of course) through a service they’re calling “Passport.” The announcement was welcome in the PSP community, since it means replacing your massive UMD collection wouldn’t mean re-purchasing everything you already have.

However, there’s one important catch that’s worth noting before you start jumping for joy: transfers are tied to one PSN account.

Here’s the basic gist of what’s going on: if your UMDS are registered to a different account than your PS Vita, you won’t be able to move any of that data to the device. Everything, including the PSP, Vita, and UMD content, must be registered to a singular PSN account to be eligible for transfer. This probably won’t hurt a majority of gamers, but a few more hardcore folks, or people that have gone through more than one account, may find their content library split between devices.

Sony has been on an anti-sharing tear lately; we’ll just have to see how the player community reacts. What do you think about the Passport program?

that is obvious on ps3 you can do more than that cuz its a home console, just like psp is a portable so they arnt goina make you have more then 1 account registered lol, its ppls fault for using more then one account for downloads if they clearly have the others account password. good they confirmed it ahead of time cuz this industry has alot of idiots in it. good article

Yes, you have bought the game, but on one format. Downloadable is another format. If you expect Sony to give you free a game in a different format, then you should expect BMG to allow you to download an album that you purchased on CD, Tape, Vinal, 8-Track, etc.

Just ain't gonna happen.

According to the concept that you are paying for the license to play the game, not the game itself, there should be no charge for the new medium. And free digital copies are common with movies by some studios.

Then you should also say that you have to pay for recording your favorite shows on a VCR.

Yeah, actually, I do, considering there's absolutely no financial loss for them to do so.

There is loss because they could have sold it. If there is a negative difference between the financial gain in the two scenarios, there is a loss.

No! Ppl will get pissed and a few will hack the device (which is what they'd done anyway) but the majority will pay. and thats the really sad thing.

Obviously not the best solution but come on... most of us were expecting you'd have to re-buy all your games from PSN like with Psp Go, so this probably is the only real solution, but as per usual with most of Sony's plans they give with one hand and stab you in the neck with the other, so i wouldn't be even slightly surprised if you only get this with PSN+ and you lose all the games if you stop paying a monthly fee.

Never gonna happen. Playstation just makes so much money and it helps Sony's share prices so they not gonna separate that and upset the shareholders, and i'm sure that's why Playstation makes so many monumentally dumb decisions, because you got the Sony execs who haven't got the first clue about the gaming industry getting to make too many decisions.
