PSP to gain audio/video messaging functions? |
Listed in: News, Featured Articles Tags:

A recent interview in the Japanese games press has revealed that Sony is already considering potential new functions for it's PlayStation Portable handheld, including the introduction of a PSP camera.
Speaking to Famitsu magazine, SCE software platform development boss Izumi Kawanishi revealed that a new messaging application for the portable console was being planned, following hot on the heels of the recently released 2.0 upgrade, that introduces a web browser and wireless photo sharing to the console's myriad functions.
'We're currently considering the implementation of an e-mail system, but we want to think over the fundamental concept behind e-mail,' screeched Kawanishi-san. 'We think it would be great if people could communicate together with the use of video and voice.' Of course, we'll be needing a PSP-compatible camera and microphone if we're to realise Kawanishi's vision, and with this in mind we'd be surprised if Sony didn't already have something in the pipeline.
Check back for more on this shortly. Or as soon as we hear it. Whatever.

why don't you try to get the companies to create some more games for the psp first before you create all those accessories!

"I am kind of excited over a few of these new fetures but isn't this a gaming system?" Yes and NO. Sony was planning since the beggining AND NOT because homebrew to provide with the PSP many features that are not of a gaming system. The psp is supposed and will have some basic pda features and i have been hearing since long time ago about a possible video and audio communication function, which we now know may not be false. You don't have to abandon homebrew, thats YOUR problem, but don't come saying things like "They are desperate to surpass homebrew!" when we users that don't need or want hombrew have been expecting those features since long time ago.
Yes i will pay for those accesories...yes i will find them cool and most probably useful, yes thats just me, but i'm not alone. And i do find cool the support their console with new updates and features and accesories. They will release new games, wait for it, the psp hasn't even got to its first year

Still...it's nice to see that Sony is really brainstorming to support their platform with some great programs. The only problem I see with that is that the PSP will have only realized its full potential after almost half its gaming life-cycle has gone by.

There's like half-a-dozen games out. We haven't even seen the first Christmas season with it yet? What the hell do you people want?
Anyways...
Let me see, do I want to keep playing my 15-year old 16-Bit games, the ocassional round of homebrew (Squarez, the only homebrew game I actually play), and emulating Windows at speeds slower than it ran on my old 486 (as if anyone thought it could really be any slower than that)? Or do I want a way for my memory stick to be filled daily with ads for penis-enhancing pills, free amateur porn subscriptions, and the chance to chat live with the people I avoid in real life?
Argh!!!! I hate these decisions!!!
