PSP To Be Sold Cheaper Soon?

PSP to go on sale? With the imminent release of PS3, which comes with a hefty price tag of almost $600, analysts believe that Sony may be formulating a plan to balance this out by cutting the price of their handheld units. There are currently rumors that as the holidays approach, the PSP's price will be reduced by up to $50, which will bring its retail price down to $149 - a much closer distance to their main competitor, Nintendo DS, which retails for only $129.

This prediction has been prompted by the recent stockpiling of finished game systems that many believe would be PSP, thereby suggesting that Sony may be planning to move these units soon.

Before we start rejoicing, however, it should be noted that Sony remains tight-lipped about this matter, and whether this price cut will push through remains to be seen.

» Not buying.

If true then thats better for gamers and $ony, although I don't see how them droping the price of one system balances anything out with the rather pricey PS3. They may just offer a special rebate if you buy both systems on the same reciept or in a specified time frame.

I live in South Florida- U.S.A. and one of the electronics stores around here was selling them for $150 about half a year ago. The store is called Brandsmart U.S.A. It was probably just a weekend sale but they were not 1.5's and I already owned two 1.5's so I didn't buy one.

I got my first one on launch day for cost minus the electronics dept.'s manager discount and the forty whatever dollars I got back from returning a PS2 network adapter (gotta love walmart employees).

Shortly after my first I got my second one, two games and the demo disc from a friend of a friend for $150!!! He never even turned it on. It was all a gift and he didn't want it. I traded in the games toward an MS Pro Duo.

» Firmware on new PSP's

My friend bought a new psp and his came with updated firmware. I dont know about you but if i didnt have a psp and i could buy one cheaper with the most updated firmware i wouldnt buy that *****.

» I wouldn't wait!!

Who's to say that they don't release a new batch of Psp's with a 2.8 firmware, at a 150 usd. Then your waiting for the price to go down, then another how ever long till 2.8 is cracked if possible.

I can see there still being Psp's with other firwares for sale, but with main companies, like Best Buy, They Buy fresh stock from the manufacturer especialy around X-mas. Fresh stock would entitle the lastest firmware.

The Psp's that do have a 1.5-2.6 firmware, are still going to sell for more, especialy psp's with 1.5

I personaly have a psp with 1.5 firmware, and right now I won't sell it for less then I payed for, if anything i'd sell if for 300 usd, just cause of it's raw potential, and the fact that I got it with 1.5 and it came out of the 1001 batch, about the time homebrew became a problem, but before they tried to do something with it.

all in all, to me it seems worth it to spend that extra fifty, or Hundred, to get a Psp with full Raw potential. Instead of one that sucks it thumb, and calls for mommy, or waits for a downgrade. If your lucky, your familiar enough with electronics to solder.

Then your spending 150usd for the device, then another 50-100usd for a mod chip that will unhinder your Psp's hardware. Then comes the fun part!!! percentages, and betting!!! your percentage is how good you are with electronics, and the betting is determined by how well your friends know you.

Even then it voids your waranty, i hope you have a replacement plan. ;)

In the long run it tapers down to the classic phrase," You get what you pay for!" ;)

heheh hope you have fun with this responce. ;)

Or you could just buy it for $150 dollars, and play UMD games instead of crappy homebrew/emulators that can be run on a computer with full speed, better graphics, and are more stable. ;)

» What is the big deal

If I had to choose between homebrew and Silent Hill Origins. I would choose Silent Hill Origins. Heck I used to run homebrew until I updated for Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories. I own 10 PSP games and I don't regret updating my firmware. I just don't understand why people would rather have classic games instead of new fresh PSP games. Plus there are like ten upcoming PSP games which I am really looking forward to. For example Silent Hill, Guilty Gear Judgment, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories, Tenchu Time of the Assassins. Those are just a few of the ones I am interested in. I bought my PSP to play PSP games it's that simple. It's a fact look it up check google.

» re:19

Nothing on Google about it. :\

Homebrew can be the best of both worlds.

It's not a choice between one or the other.

At the moment, I can play homebrew, and I can buy and play any new game. Until that changes, only simple minded people who don't understand that, and people that just don't know better would actually upgrade.

by ha ha I, as well as others, can think out side the - 2006-08-13 11:01
» free games

I have dowloaded and used over a hundred psp games, new and slightly old. I no longer have them. I have successfully played a GTA iso, with home brew, as well as the hundred other games, including the emu's for nes, sega, and you can dowload every game ever created. I can ripp burn, convert just about any media file, be it vid, or aud.

Mvies on your psp? Np, Clone DVD into an ISO, convert ISO in AVI, then to mp4 and hour and half just saved me 25-30, that's better than a minimum wage job.

Yea, I have no remourse my family history had pyrates in it, and i don't mind carring on the tradition ;)

Ans if some one can do that and save at a minimum of 2grandif not more(each gam being 20usd, not counting ones that could easily be fourty.) Why give these greedy Corporate pigs any more of my hard earned dollar, that was created by society to trade , in a sense, nothing for something.

I represent one half, you the other. For what they making off your half, is more than enough for them to be multi billionaires, especialy since i payed 250 for mine.

Bootleg and hacking has been around since the dawn of electronics. If it was such a problem, wouldn't we have stopped selling media when after the first dub was performed on a record? for one person can think of and do it, there's ten others, jsut hope they're on your side.

So you can say you have the lastest firmware, and six games and 12 movies, but many more can say they have the latest firmware, but load on flash, so going between 1.5 2.71 is as simple as the push of a button, and they can sat they have over a hundred games any movies they want. But the Kicker is how much you don't spend, I can say i got to try out the games and get bored of them with out spending 2-4grand, and then I don't watch all my money just devalue and go down the drains, so they can just abandon one system and make a whole new one so you basicaly start all over again

So yea, I have no prob with you sticking to your beliefs, i'll stick to mine, and the world will continue to turn people with live and die, companies will continue to sale media and people will continue to Pyrate them. IT'S THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION BABY!!! And its not just the sudden and intense change, it's aslo this stuff continueing to happen.

So in the end I just feel sorry for you oddly enough, your the obediant lamb the Government and religion wants, congradulation what a way to not think out side the box

*ps you may retort, " my action is the main reason psp is going down", but if your not smart enough to look at the last fifty years, as well as what $ony does with they're hard ware( they don't call it abandon ware for no reason) then you deserve to what you have, your doing exactly what they want. How do you feel? well, i'll ask that in 2008-10 when they have a new psp, your trying to sell your crap for...not even a quarter of the price just to start the whole proccess over again. ;)
