PSP Slim & Lite - Image 1With the PSP Slim & Lite achieving unprecedented success after its release in Japan - taking the top spot from the Nintendo DS by a rather considerable margin - it's no surprise that things are also looking up for Sony's handheld in other parts of the world, specifically in the UK.

The first week of the redesigned console's release had no less than 17,000 units flying off the shelves, resulting in a quadruple increase in the PSP's sales.

This news comes directly from a spokesman from Sony, and understandably, the electronics giant is quite happy with how things are turning out. The statement, unedited and presented as is:

We are very happy with the launch of Slim and Lite. The first week sales have come in at 17,000, so around a four-fold increase on the previous week. We expected sales in previous weeks to be low as we moved old stock through the channel.

But now we are back on track and preparing for new products such as Go! Explore and Go! Messenger which illustrate the PSP’s unique offering. Retail has been very supportive. The introduction of PSP Slim & Lite – and the moving through of stock of the previous PSP – has been a very smooth transition.

A smooth transition indeed. And with Sony packing some extra accessories and features for the PSP Slim & Lite, it may not be long until we see one of the re-imagined handhelds in every bag, pocket and suitcase there is.

don't you need a regular psp and a pandoras battery to install 3.60M33 on Slim and Lite?

yep, got my slim on Monday, my original jpn PSPs UMD drive broke a week before so I had the perfect excuse to upgrade :P

Wouldn't have spent the money if there was no M33 firmware for it :-)

Bought mine on launch day and sold one of my 2 old style PSP's to fund it. It's actually better than I expected, but I'm so glad that M33 came through for us - go Ruskies ^^
