PlayStation 3 console - Image 1Everyone's been talking about the PSP Portable Copy which will allow users to copy Blu-Ray movies from their PlayStation 3 to their PSPs. However, some new information has come up that indicates that this new feature will not be in the PlayStation 2.20 firmware update.

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) recently contacted Kotaku to say that the upcoming firmware update will not have Portable Copy support. This new information appears to contradict previous announcements regarding the service.

At CES 2008, Sony announced that PSP Portable Copy will be implemented when BD Live is introduced to the PlayStation 3. When details about the PlayStation 3 2.20 Firmware were revealed, Sony said that the update will have Blu-Ray Profile 2.0, otherwise known as BD Live. So if the firmware will contain BD Live, then the PSP Portable Copy service would also be going live.

Granted , things may have changed since CES 2008, thus prompting Sony's correspondence with Kotaku. Hopefully, Sony will decide to release an official statement to clarify this issue once and for all.

» Whatever...

I want the ability to read srt. sud-titles on my movies on my HDD., like my MPG4's and Divx. That's pretty basic for video players. What up Sony, you got Divx, why not Divx-Ultra. Why not sub-titles. I have to use my DVD player to watch my sub-titled moves, and that's it.

We just got firmware 2.2 and it allows the blue ray copy to psp according to the list it gave of new features. The list o new features was actually pretty long though I have not tested them yet. I think it may have mentioned subtitle support. any way the blue ray copy remains intact.
