PSP No? Independent UK retailers not yet stocking PSP Go

PSP Go - Image 1Following the E3 unveiling of the PSP Go, Sony's new handheld got a lot of raps for its features, its looks, and its rather unfriendly price tag. As a result, two indie retailers in the UK have not registered a single pre-order for PSP Go, leaving their respective management teams to wonder if they're gonna stock the new hardware.

For Chips exec Don McCabe, stocking is still an option, although it's looking pretty bleak with the way things are going. "Certainly I’m not getting the response from consumers," he said, adding that not even the usual Day 1 buyers called to pre-order. 'If suddenly I get a wealth of pre-orders then I’ll reconsider my position, but right now I would have to say that it’s not our intention to stock the product at this point in time.”

Chris Harwood, director at Grainger Games, goes more into detail and zeros in on the far-from-zero price. “price is too expensive… I can only go from the response from the consumers,” he said. “It’s not so much that I don’t think the price is justified, but it’s the customers who pay the money and they don’t think it’s justified. We can’t see where that price justification comes in when effectively it’s a lighter, slimmer PSP."

What about you guys? What do you think?

We're in the middle of a recession and we're expected to pay £229 for a smaller, lighter, umdless console. Wake up sony you money grabbing idiots!

Pehaps this will send a message to Sony about ripping off UK consumers by slapping over $100 extra on to the EU price tag. I like the PSP, I'd even consider a GO!, but Sony's justification of it being a "premium" product means that it'll be so exclusive no one will own one.

Wake up Sony, stop trying to rip us off, or you'll have another Sony Rolly on your hands.

1. Independent stores lose sales to other stores like GAME, GameStation, HMV and even Tesco

2. Perhaps not a lot of casual gamers even know it's out!

3. Sony's advertising in the UK is appalling... which I have always said... when was the last time you see a Playstation advert without going onto the net?

Sony's relying on the Fanboys to be stupid enough to pay that £230 to get an easy profit from the early sales, hopefully a lack of pre-orders will make Sony reconsider it's pricing.

You can't fault Sony for trying to give people want they keep requesting. Jesus, practically it's people going "UMD sucks balls, get rid of that nonsense and DD is the future". And guess what, they actually thought it would be nice to give you something with a big space for PSP and no UMD and you guys still complain. And believe me, I didn't like the design much or the placement of the Analog and the start and select buttons, but seriously I don't see how you can't think the price wouldn't be higher.

Well, they tried, but ultimately I prefer UMD with the ability to have DD games on the system.

If you think this device is ugly, think again. This thing is a slider and they were FORCED to put the analog and the start/select button there. The black one doesn't look so good but the white one is quite pretty. Best advice is to hold it in your hands and see if you want it or not.

# forced.....lolStiletto 2009-06-28 13:11
they weren't forced to put it there...they wanted to make it damn slider. Personally I think they made it a slider so that they had to put the slider there. Thereby forcing games to be utilizing the d-pad and the buttons for navigation and such INSTEAD OF making it a slider with dual analogs. If it were me designing it I woulda made it either a slider with tracks under the screen for dual analogs so as not to recess the sticks. OR make it a non slider with dual analogs. Sony is proving they don't really want an analog stick at all. look where they put it. better have one hell of a long thumb or move your left hand closer to your right. What I want to know is what is the problem with dual analogs for sony? why the hell are they refusing to do it? The whole community has been screaming for dual analogs ever since the PSP Phat was announced to the world. What The @#$# gives, Sony? HUH?

# sony makes what the feel they needLink75e 2009-06-28 14:38
i was waiting for a psp2 with better graphics or better load times but nothing yet. Instead they came out with a slider because anything that slides sells fast like the gay sidekick which is geared for kids only. The iphone sucks for games i dont even know why people play games on their phones it kills your battery so less talk time and emails. The DS is for kids and graphics suck. I need something to play games on maybe microsoft can pick up sony's slack and make something that real gamers want.

No UMD+faster loading times. The issue in the UK is the extra $100 equivalent that we have to pay for the same fking console, not the hardware.

if there was dual analog on that it would be a PSP2 not a liter slimmer psp, then all the games that would be developed for that would leave all the old psps out and FORCE people to buy this new one. Personaly I will wait for a better newwer PSP2 to come out for dual analogs

Doesn`t make a difference if it has umd or not. When you run the game from the memory stick on either psp system, it runs at the same speed. The psp go doesnt have any hardware improvements for speed, just a redesign with built in memory,blue-tooth and no-umd. Nothing else. Definently not worth the price at all. Buy a 3000, get a 16 gb ms off ebay for 45 bucks(thats U.S.) and you got the same thing, but cheaper.

^ Yeah I agree... And what about the game covers and nicely done UMDs... WTF SONY! Just make a totally new Handheld console and not these PSP "improvements" like "OMG it's smaller and has more Price than ever!" Really what's the idea to go to Gamestores if you can onlyh download the games...
