PSP Minis games pricier than App Store counterparts

PSP Go - Image 1Have you picked up your PSP Gos yet? Been checking out the PSP Minis game selections? If yes, then you probably have noticed that the game prices are double that of their iPhone App Store counterparts.

If you have not noticed that, then now you know. MTV Multiplayer reports that the first batch of Minis range from US$ 4.99 to US$ 9.99. Those in the US$ 4.99 bracket would be Alien Havoc, Brainpipe and Sudoku. Meanwhile, Funky Punch, Hero of Sparta and Fieldrunners are tagged with a US$ 6.99 price. On the upper end would be Tetris, selling for US$ 9.99.

The App Store version of these games, however, only demand from US$ 1.99 to 4.99 from your wallets. With the PSP Go in full swing out in the free world, the reality of its high price points come crashing down. The real question then becomes: is it worth it to shell out so much for a hardware offering functionalities you can already get from the original PSP models, and at a much cheaper price too?

Yes ofcourse. They're probably made by the same greedy iPhone developers. They put out pure BULLCRAP for the iPhone and charge 5$ for it. When they actually have to make a half decent application for the PSP whos users don't accept anything short of home console quality games they are obviously going to over price their stuff.

» also...

let's not forget it's more expensive to develop for a psp than iphone

» Meh

I didn't mind Tetris for $10 because it was Tetris, and I'm not so bad at the game that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between that and the free, slow-moving, one-button-rotating flash game.

And I thought Tetris debuted on the Apple App store for $10 too. That price eventually dropped, but I didn't want to wait for a PSN price drop that may or may not occur.

» SO WHAT

You have a technology called buttons on the PSP. Something the iPhone does not have.

Exactly right. Don't mind paying a bit extra (most of them are still pocket change to me) to be able to use proper controls. Anytime I've tried playing iPhone games they've just felt crippled by the machine they're on.

» Okay now

tell me how much did those game cost when they first appeared on the app store. My bet somewhere around the same price as the Minis.

if you purchase online, you can drop the cost significantly with e-coupons. just a suggestion, if you were actually interested. therockness, it did. that individual got the go for the price as the 3000

» At the moment, i can't even afford these prices.....

I have been added to the rising unemployment figures, so

remember Sony we are in a global recession you know, prices need to go down, how about a reduction in prices on all titles in the first week of release, then put the prices up to there full price as they are now, that way, Sony get more sales & the consumer get a fair deal, out of it.

Yeah good point!!!!

» Good point...

If people can't afford Sony's overpriced new unit. Then Sony loses out on overpriced game sales. A drastic price cut needs to be put in effect

» Wait

We all know these things will struggle to sell so just wait a month and retailers will start offering good deals, or buy used because a lot of people will blindly buy this without realising all the problems, and they have to sell cheap because people know it's overpriced and won't offer anything close to new price.

» @symbal

Remember retail stores are not going to sell PSP Mini's, thats only a download service, hence why the retailers are up in arms about these games, some refusing to sell the PSP Go as well.

» No mate, i was talking about the games........

As you can download these PSP Minis on a standard PSP through the PSN, but at a lower price, so you do not need to buy the PSP Go in the first place.

» No

The retailers might be able to drop the price of the Psp go or do packages with cheap accessories, it'll probably be like supermarkets etc. offering the best deals.

by symbal - 2009-10-03 07:33
» £199.99

If anyone in the UK looking to buy 1 the cheapest i found is play.com for £199.99

» Funny

I played one of those games called somthing Sparta. And after about 20 sec I said to my self, "This playes like one of those crappy Iphone games."

Guess what, it was. Fieldrunners ik OK though, but it's tower defense. Hard to muck that up.
