DaedalusX64 team member Salvy and the rest of the crew continues to improve their Nintendo 64 emulator project for the PSP with another SVN release.

DaedalusX64

Changelog:
[=>] Merged from Dev branch:

Rev 229 - Salvy
[-] Reverted changes from 64 -> 32bit in interrupts (slightly slower but safer)
[-} Reverted change in GenerateCFC1 (it caused issues in the interpreter, it can be risky for the dynarec as well)
Rev 230 - Corn
[!] Alpha channel gets passed along even when doing lighting on a tris
[+] Added rendered Rects as screen debug info
Rev 231 - Corn
[!] reverted IRQ optimization that made Animal crossing fail(salvy)
[+] Some minor optimizations to the VFPU TnL
[+] Ucode names for Conker BFD to debug Dlist
Rev 232 - Salvy
[+] Implemented cheat support (this mostly based from 1964 and PJ64) [WIP]

Developer's note:

This release of DaedalusX64 is currently in beta stages of development.

As for the past releases of Daedalus PSP, this project is intended to show the potential for a N64 emulator on the PSP, but the currentrelease has many missing features that make it far from usable:

  • Many roms won't boot.
  • Some roms have serious graphical glitches.
  • Various roms have random lockups and crashes.
  • Many roms run at a low framerate.

Having said all that, We believe most of these problems can be overcome in the near future.

Installation:

  • Copy the Daedalus folder to the \PSP\GAME\ folder on your PSP.
  • Daedalus requires Custom Firmware 4.00 or higher, failing to install CFW 4.00 or higher will mean Daedalus does not load past the firmware check screen.

Upgrade Procedure

  • Remove all HLE files from the SaveGames folder
  • Remove rom.db and preferences.ini
  • This will ensure that Daedalus is fresh.

Now they call it SVN? Basically calling it BETA again.

Wait never mind.. I think they got out of Alpha.

its just a nightly build which might be worse then the beta and not an actual release.

It seems like it was yesterday 500 came out. I'm amazed the number is so higher now. This release is about 196 units better than build 500. Is WiFi(Ad-Hoc) multiplayer ever gonna be a feature? That would be fun.

That would be fun wouldn't it but the emulator needs to beable ot run games at a decent speed b4 any of that and this one well this one works really hard for RESULTS....

They should really implement a wifi updater... redownloading the packages on my laptop is getting quite annoying, but at least the quality keeps getting better. I'd really like to see however seperate emus built specifically for certain games as taking every game on at once is proving difficult and futile. Think of it, they could be spending time building a dedicated emu for Ocarina of Time, that's basically the only game everyone downloads this for no?

I'm pretty sure they already aim for compatibility on popular games. And OoT is one of the most verbally requested for compatibility. I do believe this issue was brought up before somewhere, and it was said that there would be almost no imporvement to how well OoT runs due to it already being the main focus.

Its great that they keep at it and it's cool they're so focused but I worry if they'll finish in time before the NGP drops

Well if you think about it, what will likely happen is the NGP will get modded, and this emulator will likely be ported to it, and with the NPG's much higher performance, emulation of the n64 will likely be a breeze for it, and it will just be a matter of optimization and stability, then they can resume their work on this emulator.
