PSP Go!Explore GPS Navigation System: European launch, screens |
Ó
Remember Go!Explore? It was part of the new Go! services that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) demonstrated back at the Leipzig Games Convention. Now they have just announced that Go!Explore will be launching in Europe in early Spring.
Go!Explore is a new GPS navigational system for the PSP. You attach a GPS receiver into the device and loading a UMD that contains the relevant maps in your area. With these, you've got yourself a 3D map that will let you figure out how to go where you want to go.
Relevant landmarks are also marked on the map (modeled in 3D too) as well as useful places such as gas stations and restaurants. You can check out our previous article on it to watch a demonstration.
The GPS receiver and UMD containing the maps are expected to retail for EUR 119 (US$ 175) and will be initially available in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Nordic countries, and Benelux.
The service will also be available in 11 different audio languages. Check out the Go!Explore screenshots by clicking on the images.

and central europe can go to hell again.. thanks a lot.. this software is develoded by a Hungarian company.. bad bad Sony.. It's all about the money, isn't it?
Richer getting rich and the poor getting poorer!
Sony...you're crazy!!!! As much as I want the GPS on my PSP...I'm not paying $175!!!! I can understand $75...but not $175... My PSP only cost me $200. The're handheld GPS systems out there that are cheaper than this....
thats like 200 aus dollar OMG. i cud get another psp wif that. stuff that
they have a better map and all and cost me the gps plus the EU map lie 400... a Tom Tom one... but I will miss the touch screen in the psp gps...
I wonder if SONY will incorporate a feature that will allow you find the location of other PSP users. It is certainly something I would not want to be permanently enabled but it would be a nice feature. PSN accounts might be needed and a WiFi connection.
I don't know how bad your geography knowledge is , but Hungary isn't central europe, dude....
The display of the PSP glares in a car. I think it cant be used as a navigation device, you cant see the maps but your angry face... You can hear the voice commands, but sometimes you must look at the map. They should include a holder and an anti-glare screen protector for that much money.
I agree, that is one thing that has always bothered me about the PSP screen. Is there such thing as an anti-glare screen protector ? I sure hope so.
