PSP Go sales struggling in Australia |
Ó

Sony has called the Australian release of the PSP Go a "soft launch" amid low sales numbers. In its first week, the PSP Go managed to move only around 1,000 units in the region.
"Clearly we haven't done massive numbers but it's not something that we're concerned about ... because there are still some issues that we need to work through," said Michael Ephraim, managing director of SCE Australia and New Zealand, in a phone interview with The Age.
Ephraim clarified that the handheld's weekly sales figure exceeded 1,000, but only "slightly". He also outlined Sony's future plans -- the comic download service, the Play TV accessory, and the upcoming movie download store -- as reasons to pick up a Go when they go live.
"I suppose the applications are going to catch up with the device ... the connectability to the PS3 and those other applications will start making this device even more viable," Ephraim said.

Sony seriously doesn't get the point. No one wants it.....
The price is really high. I did manage to purchase one but dollar wise I don't think the value was there. If the price was originally set at $100 USD, don't know about the conversion, I think this unit would be selling better than it is. Sony probably makes over $100 in profit off of this unit, I guess that has to make up for the loss in the division.
I like the idea of digital content because I don't have to worry about my house getting robbed and potentially losing all of my hard copies. I can replace the console but the games would easily cost more than a console's price tag. Its easier to just re-download the games to a new unit.
you wouldnt be able to re download them to a new unit it can tell if its not the psp you first downloaded them to
Exactly. I have always been a PS3 and PSP fan (notice fan, not fanboy!), but let's be honest.
The PSP Go sucks. Major. A*s.
I'm sure bandwidth limitations wouldn't have something to do with this.
games are around 200mb to 1200mb. really puts a strain on their ISP's limitations.
You're right Mocherz, Australia has *****ty internet nation wide, downloading a game takes a very long time. But also, the PSP has never been that popular in Australia. I've only ever seen a handful of people with them.
You can, simply put your psn info onto the new psp. I own a psp 2000 and a psp go both of which contain all of my digital psp games. My brother has some of my digital psp on his handheld as well.
I own a ps3, I used that to transfer the games over. It's much quicker to do it this method.
Also, the psn agreement states that you can have it on up to 5 psp's. You can activate and deactivate psp's through the account management.
that's the main reason why noone wants it here. And also the price tag is 50 bucks of the ps3 so close to the ps3 in australia by like 70 bucks that people would rather buy a ps3 than a psp go.
... is NOT right!
way too pricey and a smaller screen = urgh!
psp2 with dual screens and 5.1 speakers now THATS what I'm talkin' aboot (!)
is still only 200mb download a month.
It's an over priced ass handheld.
The damn digital games cost so much, and the damn thing doesn't even come with a manual or Cover.
I'd say stick it with the 2000 PSP or 3000.
M-I-C-R-O-W-A-V-E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even selling well anywhere?
australia is the only place it struggling.
check it. psp numbers have increased significantly ever since the psp was released. australia is different
*ever since psp go was released
Here in singapore,PSP Go is selling fast till it out of stock. Especially those in Pearl White colour.
mmmm I say PSP Go. A collector does buy stuff that no one else wants....
well they really havent released psp go sales yet so far psp sales means umd psp's and psp go's together. Im pretty sure they dont want to release the number of psp go's sold if they do it will show what a big failure it is.
Sony has done ZERO advertising for the psp-go over here, so most people dont even know it`d been released here. I didn`t even know it had until reading this article.
true that psp sales do include all versions of psp. however, is it coincidence psp sales went up after the pspgo?
i thought canada was bad...wow sorry guys. :(
It seems you guys are mistaken
I live in Australia and ive gotta say, 200mb isnt the average allowance. Right now im on a 20gb plan, and 14gb is average.
Its true that Bigpond is Australias main ISP, however it isnt the most popular one. Bigpond is ***** nowadays, Telstra is ripping averybody off, and thats the main reason why people are converting to Optus.
Also, its not because we dont want to or cant download games. Its just the pspgo's price is a complete rip-off
Over here, the price is $450 - 500AUS
Average workers only receive $100-150 per day
Longstoryshort pspgo is a ripoff
you should go bigpond liberty plans
Fast 256/64kbps
$29.95 200MB
$59.95 BigPond Liberty ® 12GB
Faster 1500/256kbps $39.95 400MB
$69.95 BigPond Liberty 12GB
$79.95 BigPond Liberty 25GB
Fastest
High Speed ADSL2+ ADSL
$59.95 600MB
$89.95 BigPond Liberty 12GB
$99.95 BigPond Liberty 25GB
$149.95 60GB
*Additional usage charged at $0.15/MB, except for members on the BigPond Liberty plans. If you are on a BigPond Liberty plan, once you reach your usage allowance, the speed of your service will slow to 64kbps until your new billing cycle starts.
the best plan is $99.95 for 25GB under Liberty
the $149.95 60GB plan is not liberty so it stays full speed and charges you 15c per MB.
PSP Go was never going to be hit in australia.
especially since alot of people have switched to 3G wireless as well
i'm on 10GB liberty on 3G for 129.95 per month
but i also have pre-paid
so when i get slowed 64KBps i switch my USIM card to pre-paid and put $100 on it for another 6GB at full speed
even though our wired internet sucks
we have the fastest 3G net in the world, so we are ahead in wireless broadband at least
plans are still expensive though
our selection on PSN sucks mega.
we get nothing fast.
sony treats australia as second class.
