It's a major disassembly alright. Among the stand-out features you'll see in their tinkering session of the brand new UMD-free unit are the new non-removable battery, the on-board memory, and the usual nub and controls.

still hoping for the price of this one to go down from their declared price since it's still not out yet. i could buy the upcoming ps3 slim with the $249 price of psp go with just a difference. xD

Non-removable battery. No. Just no. I like to keep my 2 PSP batteries on me when I'm travelling, so by forcing me to only use 1 is a very poor idea for a portable games system. Very very poor.

- Camera isn't essential, but would be nice.
- Going away from UMD? As much as it bugs UMD owners like me, I can see the virtue/value in it.
- 16Gb built-in? Wicked. Too much or too little? Just right I think.
- lack of keyboard. forgiveable, but a bummer. The system wasn't designed to require one. It's desired more for the homebrew crowd (which I'm proud to say I'm a member of).
- M2? WTF? [gags]... duo please. any smaller is stupid IMHO. That's why I'd NEVER recommend a JVC Camcorder to anyone... Micro SD in a Camcorder? are they f'n nuts?! It's too easy to lose the darned thing ['ptyu'... gone] Same thing with the M2. in a Cellphone... I'd still rather the Pro Duo.
- Forward facing speakers? Good to keep in play. The down firing ones in the 1001 can be an issue in any environ other than a quiet one.
- smaller USB port? ah Heck... [shakes head in disgust] There is no good reason for this change.
- lack of secondary analog stick? COMPLETELY unforgiveable. Was no one listening? BT and 2nd Analog are the only two that were absolute must haves! Sony, you gave us one, but not the other... [sigh]
- lack of force feedback? - meh... some people would probably drop the durned thing. I'm fine without it on the portable.
Why the heck are they making it smaller? Most younger gamers that want a portable went with Nintendo (am I answering my own question?). The more mature crowd (read: bigger hands) went PSP. My hands cramp enough trying to play Super Stardust Portable with the analog stick. Making it smaller would snap my hands! Ugh... [sweat drop]
Mind you if they wanted to market more to younger kids... ther software better match!
I use my PSP primarily for watching video (Remote Play with the PS3 rules!) and listening to mp3s. Secondarily I use it for games (emulators mostly, UMD games next). I won about 2 dozen legit UMDs. I've probably only played a third of them. Heheh I'm bad that way. I buy a lot that look interesting, but lack the time to play.
I used to use the PSP for portable browsing and such, but found the browser to be next to useless. The screen in my PSP-1001 is perfect, I can even deal with the virtual keyboard, but the browser SUCKS!
I've owned 2 PSP-1001s. Rather proud of the fact I never got sucked into the newer models... I was so looking forward to a better screen on the 3000, but was sadly disappointed. I'm really only missing out on the Video out option and Skype.
I really don't think price is a HUGE issue. Plenty of tweens have iPod touches to go with their cheaper DS's and now DSi's. Their mommy's, daddy's and grand's can chip in if they've got the other toys. The rest of us, have to save up. Big deal. Nothing new. Greater appreciation of the purchase I say.
Bottom line: I don't expect a PSPhone. I just want a sensible, well-rounded PSP that has all the logical PS gaming attributes:
Biggest screen possible,
Decent Speakers (check out the Nokia N95 8Gb for ideas),
WiFi,
Pro Duo ext memory,
Dual Analog,
Bluetooth A2DP,
3.5mm hp jack,
standard mini-USB port,
D-pad, geo-buttons (□, X, Δ, O), Home/PS, select, start, volume/mute, and brightness.

- Internal non-removable battery? Fine... but IT BETTER LAST! Bluetooth and WiFi simultaneously? That'll be a killer... Oh Boy...
Why not have both? an internal and an external option? Meh... I tried.
- Slide? If as good as the slide on my old Samsung d807, I'm all for it. It's a great way to keep it relatively compact without cramping buttons all over the place. (However they cramped the buttons anyway). They could have kept the general size of the PSP 2/3000 and just added a keyboard at centre and two larger than usual analog buttons on the under carriage at each side, keeping the primary buttons up top. I'd GFX up a mock-up for y'all, but my bloomin' Vista 64-bit laptop won't let me install my 32-bit gfx software (grr).
