PSP Game Heist at Blockbuster

Ó

thieves_worldThursday night around 8:30 in the evening, a true gaming addict walked into a Blockbuster Video store in Myrtle Beach, Florida and managed to make off with sixty (!) PlayStation Portable games.  According to the  police report, the thief used his pants to aid in the theft.

A Blockbuster employee told police she observed a man selecting PlayStation Portable games and shoving them in his pants. "The guy's pants were bulging out because he had so many games," she said. The employee asked the man to stop as he left the store, but he fled in a silver Mercury LeSabre with a rental car tag.

The 60 games that were stolen had a value of $1,800, the report said. The store employee, who requested anonymity, did not speculate as to what the man in question would do with all of the games stolen.

I rent games all the time and almost every store i have been to the game cases on the shelves are empty, and they store the games inside a drawer or cupboard. This store is stupid to think if they leave PSP games on the shelves that people wont be tempted to pocket them.

this store had it commin for having such a bad storage system for their PSP games.

I thought that Blockbuster usually has their games at the counter and not actually in the boxes? Hmmm, I wonder where that store was. I can't believe the cops didn't catch him. I mean, he got him at the door, did he really get as far to where they couldn't catch him?

As far as I know all the corporate stores keep their games behind the counter and have dummy boxes on the shelf. Franchises can do pretty much what they want by way of their storage/rental system.

Although we have magnetic 'keys' to lock DVD boxes and it seems that Negroes have figured out a way to open them. They just keep coming back and stealing whatever they want.

Maybe they were new games you can buy. I notice that they do have some brand new ones out on the shelves but I don't know if they would have 60 of them. This guy is stupid doing this and even more stupid knowing there are camera's in the store. I can already hear Jack Thompson saying "he's addicted to games and needed to feed his habit. Luckily no one got hurt during this violent, VIOLENT crime."

Sorry if it was offensive.

Has nothing to do with Nazism.

#13 - Good point. Retail stuff is always kept in it's original packaging in a plastic 'secure'. But again...yeah, I don't think a Blockbuster would have that many PSP games for sale. My store only has about 30 for rental...

I live in P.R. and in the blockbusters here the games are in a separate case that is always behind the original case so, if you want to steal the game the only thing that you need to do is find a way so that the case doesn't make any sound when you leave. The case are not even magnetically sealed they just have a plastic lock that can be open with a small knife.

I live in Canada, and all of the PSP games that are for sale are on the shelf in their actual packaging, not behind the counter. The games that are for rent though, that is a different story. If I remember right, the video games and movie UMDs have that plastic protecting on them, that the employees remove after you buy it, so I do not know how he will get it off. Perhaps he will saw it off. Maybe he will just sell them on eBay still in their protective packaging....

At my local blockbuster, all the new games are in a cabinet (not behind the desk) but are under lock-and-key. All the rental games however are displayed on the shelf, but the packages are empty. The actual games are behind the desk. But pre-played games are all ont he shelves, in packaged form with the games inside.

Maybe they were pre-played games?

Blau, you make a good point but use an offensive example. If the movie was called 'Black men can't jump' and it dealt with the matters that 'White men can't jump' dealt with, then it would have been accepted just as highly as the current movie is.

I don't know about you, but i don't often here Black people calling white people crackers, maybe its different in the UK? In what i have seen, the white person hasn't taken much offense to it, which is probably why it's seen as a less offensive word than if you were to call a black person something insulting connected with a history of slavery? There isn't really history behind the word cracker, except that it corresponds to the colour of a persons skin. There's a smudge of history behind white 'honkey', but then that is taken more offensively than the word cracker...sooo.................Other than that, we all know it isn't true that all white men have a *****ty jump, that's just stupid, the main white chracter was a good basketball player, sooo...LOL, you shouldn't assume such crap yanno.

Has anyone taken into account that if the store DID have cameras they would have said so to put the guilty man in a certain state of mind, the police would have identified him, or if not have put up some sort of search, that isn't the case, so i assume they don't have cameras, and that it was actually an inside job. What kind of a person acts so *****ty for the place they work for, "he's taking games" - "lets wait until he begins to run"..."Stop sir" *guy runs off *Workers go back into shop and report it.

It's aloada crap.

It's a given that this is a crime, we don't need to flat out say "this is wrong." We know it's wrong. I feel people should NOT just download ISOs play the game 100% and never pay a dime. I fear this story has its flaws and it can't be taken seriously untill someone does a follow up story.

It's a little off topic, but the word "Cracker" goes back as far as the n word. it refers to a white dude crakin a wip on the slaves. Im sure it isn't used much in the UK but here in america i hear black people say "Honky" and "Cracker" all the time. it's a double standered that drives me nut's. I am not at all racest however i am constantly a victom of reverse-rasesem. tell me that saying im racest just couse im white is not rasesem in itself?

I'm sorry i had to get this off my chest.

The movie "white chicks" is just wrong, if someone made a movie where two white dudes dressed up as black chicks and exagerated everything about them. do you think that movie would ever get released? Hell no! people would call it racest.

Also the biggest problem right know isn't race or color it's the poor vs. the rich!

ohya this artical on this dude stealing the games is either fake or missing information, i don't think any blockbuster keeps thier games in the box's on the shelf.

This sucks to have to subjected to this type of crap and yes insuing that black people are soley responsible for theft in a certain place or area is racist. Also negro is not a term I think fits with the humor of "white men cant jump" the movie is supposed to be funny and not taken seriously or literally, dosent anyone remember Larry Bird COME ON! The two are totaly different thing's.

Speaking of which I worked for a blockbuster myself and when you're hired they tell you not to stop people you suspect of shop lifting. So while it may have seemed stupid that no one stopped this guty the people who worked there where doing what they where supposed to, that is unless franchise branches have different rules for shop lifters but I would'nt know anything about that.

# A collection of truthsGuest 2006-06-10 20:32
I am going to settle a few things here once and for all.

there can be TWO (or more) cities called Myrtle Beach. They can be in separate areas of the country. If I was to ask you where Housten was, many of you would unanimously think that I was refering to Housten, Texas. However, there are many Housten's around the world. Prime example: We have a community named Housten right here in British Columbia. Using this logic, Myrtle Beach could refer to any one of the surely many Myrtle Beach's in North America, and hence, it does not get us any closer to determining where this incident took place, assuming that the source was speculating on the state a Myrtle Beach was in.

Second: I find this heist incredibly difficult to fathom. IF the games were on display in that store, they would (as previously mentioned) be contained in plastic lock boxes, which can only be opened by a member of the staff upon completion of a sale. There is NO WAY that he could have stuffed that many lockboxes in his pockets, pantlegs, and God knows where else, and have his pants hold together, much less have him move himself to a getaway car.

For those of you debating on how many titles are available for the PSP, I have just finished browsing the Playstation website. Total games fould in a wildcard search for psp games = 158.

For those of you questioning why he did not attempt to take higher dollar value games, pay attention. There could be several reasons for this. He could want the games for himself, and not have a higher value console. He could have chosen them for the size of the lockboxes.

(anything with a standard disk size in it is kept in a lockbox about 1/3 larger than a PSP or gameboy game.) He could have chosen them for the intent of giving / selling them to a specific person who has a PSP system. Like I said, it could be for any number of reasons.

I have also seen speculation about the thief dumping the UMD's, and then returning them. This would not erase his crime, and would even net a larger number of possible charges that he could face. (Copyright infractions and such.)

And for the sake of remaining neutral, I will reserve comment of the side issue of racial ethics for the time being.

Hoping people read this before repeats,

Jake Marvolo Hoshgothen

# #64 There is no Myrtle Beach, FLVipre77 2006-06-11 02:37
It simply does not exist, therefore, there's no chance of there being "another Myrtle Beach" in Florida.

The crazy thing is finding a Blockbuster store that actually has 60 different PSP games available (none of my local stores have that many and I live in Milwaukee, so it's not like I'm in a little podunk town). Even if they had that many, most of the newer good games that are even worthwhile are always checked out and never in stock.

Assuming that you could find that many different games at a Blockbuster, getting 60 cases in your pants wouldn't be THAT difficult. All you'd need are some pants that can be tied off at the ankles. A lot of the stuff you can buy at Army/Navy surplus stores have straps at the ankle that you can use to tie them off. Get the pants a little on the large side and you've got all kinds of room in each leg for them to fit. Not to mention the large pockets on the sides of each leg. You could probably get at least 4 or 5 cases in each of those.

# Oh Really?Guest 2006-06-11 07:19
There is no Myrtle Beach in Florida? Then how come I just googled it and got several results for it? Do your research before posting such nonsense.

Fitting '4 or 5' of those lockboxes in any pocket is unheard of. Also, we are talking about 60 plus games here. Not even with pants the size of Jared (The subway headman) could you fit both the games and a person in them, even if you were to tie them off at the ankles. It's just not possible.

# Yes, reallyVipre77 2006-06-11 08:15
Try doing a zip code search rather than Google. According to Mapquest, there are TWO Myrtle Beachs. One in South Carolina and the other in Connecticut. None in Florida. Also no matches at the US Postal Service website, either. Now, why don't you go back under the rock that you crawled out from under?

Have you ever seen the size of the pockets on a pair or cargo pants? They can be VERY big. I've got a pair of cargos that I picked up at an Army/Navy surplus store (black BDU pants) and I can tell you there is tons of room in those. I'm positive you can fit 4-5 of those game cases in one of those pockets.

Count out 60 lockboxes the next tme you're in Blockbuster. Then, after visualizing what it really looks like and how much space it takes up, and you may reconsider your position on exactly how much volume those Army and Navy pants of yours will hold with you inside them.

And it appears that I misread the google results. There is no Myrtle Beach in Florida. I appologise for the misconceptions in this regard

Actually;

"The term "cracker" was and is used most frequently in the South, especially in Georgia and Florida. Since the 1870s a nickname for Georgia is "The Cracker State", which is displayed proudly with no hint of insult."

"In the African American community, "cracker" is a disparaging term synonymous with "white trash." (The OED cites the 1830s origin of white trash as a word used by slaves on rich plantations to ridicule poor whites.)"

So, you're kinda talking crap with the whole slave whip crack crap....
