Sony has released a minor firmware update for the PSP earlier today, which brings nothing new to the table but blocks the use of some1's 6.39 kernel exploit.

So if your units are running on custom firmwares, you know the drill, don't update! It's another sneaky move from Sony, but good thing homebrew coder neur0n is already on the heels of this one. Just a few hours after the firmware went live, neur0n has announced on twitter that he is working on bringing the latest firmware to the custom firmware community (see the pic below for a little preview of neur0n's 6.60 ME).

The Japanese coder ain't alone on this one either. Browsing through Team PRO's Google project hosting page and we see a couple of progress in relation with firmware 6.60. No official word yet on the release of both CFW's. Stay tuned.

Sony released the PSP firmware update version 6.60 earlier today along with the PS3 update 3.70.

Where one door (kxploit) is closed (by Sony), another one is opened (by some1):

6.60 kernel exploit by some1 on PSP GO :)

It won't be long now when CFWs/LCFWs/HEN follow.

STOP releasing updates for this console. WORK ON RELEASING THE NGP.. (I refuse to call it PS Vita). We are all waiting for the NGP.

Do I have to update my PSP when it has no more cool games coming in?

Well it doesn't really matter if there are no new games at this time. I updated already to 6.60 ME and had no problems with any of my games. Atleast when new games come out I don't have to update any more.

So a minor update isnt 6.40 but a jump to 6.6 from 6.39 i mean the minor updates before were 6.35 6.36 6.37 6.38 finally 6.39 what happened to 6.40-6.59

Why 6.60? Why not 6.39.1? Since nothing new is really added...
