Dark_Alex, from our forums, has informed us that Matt Fazzer has apparently stopped development on the PSP emulator he claimed to be working on, citing a C&D letter he recieved threatening court action. Here is his message:

"hello guys, I'm having serious trouble with my host. I have also received an important email, threatening court action for the production of my playstation portable emulator. I therefore, cannot continue my work with PSPemu I am very sorry for all the inconvenience this may have caused the PSP community. I would just hate to get into serious trouble. Thanks alot to all the people who were there for me throughout the project, and thanks to all the people on the psp-hacks forums for supporting me and
participating in the logo competition.

mattfazzer will be re-opening in October, offering news, reviews, previews and ISO release lists. I will also be working on brand new JavaScript apps on top of various legal homebrew applications. Once again i am very sorry for the sudden end to this
project...and I also apologize to Sony.

Bull**** all the way, that's all I have to say. What is sad, is that websites like pspupdates, posted unverified news from this mauron.

C&D letters do get sent all the time - mostly because they cost about $0.37. They get sent whether or not something actually exists, and whether or not something is legal or illegal. And yes, 8:29, people do get put out of business for writing emulators. Remember Bleem? I think Sony had a hand in putting them out of business...

Bleem was making money off the emulator. It was a commericial emulator that is the difference. This kid never had anything to begin with, I never believe it from the start. One kid who looks like he is 13 and apparantly a "proffesional" programmer was working on a psp emulator and was almost done with it? It's hard to believe that anyone actually believe this to begin with

IP violations have nothing to do with whether the work is commercial or not. Bleem broght attention to themselves by selling the emulator, sure, but it would have been the same if they had given it away free. Which is not to say that Bleem was actually violating IP, just that they would have gotten sued one way or t'other.

Anyway, I'm not trying to say whether the product exists or not, just that claiming to have gotten a cease-and-desist makes it neither more nor less likely to exist. And it's still just a claim.

I think everyone's feeling a little burned by the WAB thing, and maybe taking it out on this guy is how some people release tension - or maybe they are just newly skeptical about things they had believed in the past. I for one am shocked, shocked I say, to find that there is subterfuge in the h@x0r community!

That's convenient. Must have saved him actually writing any code then to get a cease and desist! Bull****! There never was a Cease and desist!

Hey, you guys are morons, do you realise that every day the industry is taking more steps to prevent piracy.

If this emualator used ANY offical Sony PSP Firmware or Bios, it was illegal, and the fact is, Sony themselfs could pend and copyright the emulation of their system.

Did you know its illegal to make ANY Nintendo or Sega emulators now? Thats right, Nintendo and Sega currently copyrighted them, so while you may not make them, the Big N and Sega can and sell them.

Sega has been doing that for years though.

Get your facts stright you ****ing newbies.

Ok guys, I've seen matt fazzer before at x-b-o-x.net boards that closed down, He was claiming to be a web developer, but used php templates from his host, claimed to be working on an xbox emulator of sorts, and thought he was all that. This guy is so bogus. He just wants attention. Don't give it to him.

Oh my god! I can't believe you got caught! Why, you only brought attention to yourself for having a site and having that contest.

You are such a **** talker, I for one believe that any new projects are bull**** until I see something like a functioning EBOOT. Did you team up with WAB or something? I think so...

BTW, show us that e-mail you received...thought so

Whatever the case, hope this is the end for your legal troubles, let everyone **** here, it would have been nice to see an emu, but not the end of the world that we wont for now.

Don't let this keep you down though, there is lots more room for homebrew in the PSP realm.

This and now the WAB news has left me somewhat disillusioned... I suppose though I should have realized at the least that it was impossible for some wannabe professional programmer teenager to be successfully working on something as advanced as this.

Everyone that posted a negative reply up here should get a life. On his own time and through his own initiative this guy's gone ahead and tried to start something cool, has gotten shot down by Sony and all you do is complain that you won't get your precious psp emulator so you can play pirate games without forking out the cash. Get out of the homebrew scene, you're just giving it a bad name.

Go ahead and flame away. I have a feeling your fragile ego's are unable to sit back and silently take criticism as quickly and easily as you dole it out.

Anyone who flamed matt is a ****. This guy is taking precious time to develop a psp emu and all you guys can do is **** about the fact that he stopped. You think youre so special? Go try and make a PSP Emulator. I believe that sony contacted him. His PSP Emulator was on every single stie. Even engadget had it. it was inevitable that Sony would find out. You guys should shut your mouths. And in case you didnt see the message in the post above me, Get out of the scene, youre giving it a bad name, ****

Since when are emulators themselves illegal? Oh, right, they're not. Never believed this guy from the beginning.

ok now if i were this mstt guy i would just send a reply to sony telling them to **** off and not bother me.....they wont take it to court cause there is no way they can win....of course if they are dumb enough to do that matt can sue them for emotional and moral damages, since they would make him look like a bad guy to the entire world...he could ask for a lot of money out of sony.....so if he really got an e-mail from sony and stopped work on his emulator he is an idiot....a big idiota that could either release an emu or could release an emu and also get rich....just go ahead and finish it and release it, sony wont do a thing or they would screw themselves

The REALITY is he never had anything programmed. Anyone can claim a C&D letter. If IN FACT he did have a real emulator working, AS HE SAID using a custom firmware and programms NOT related to the sony kit, then he was FREE and IN THE CLEAR from any assumed letters.

Matt it is sad that you had to lie in order to get hits. Try earning a rep the legit way, instead of making more "2.0 games" *javascript* cough *javascript*

*note - javascript works on every version psp (javascript is NOT a 2.0 psp app) If you were a dev, you would know to call your programs by their correct name and function()

Anonymous 7:17: Listen, if I had a project going, I would show some of the progress, I wouldn't talk out of my ass.

Another thing, I am not a programmer, and I give props to the real programmers out there (Humma, TYL etc). Those are people where money should be donated to. Mark my word, if I had skills to program ****, I would AND it would be open source.

The way that this guy went about this whole thing was stupid. Why? He didn't give a **** if he got "caught" cuz he had ****! Nada, zip, zilch Capiche?

TRANSLATION: I got in over my head and realized that this emulator would never see the ligt of day. I SUCK. And despite the fact that THOUSANDS of emulators have been developed on DOZENS of platforms, I'm gonna try to chalk it up to a "C&D" letter. YEAH, that's the ticket!

You know, this is twice that "dev groups" have claimed that they got in legal trouble. It's nothing but a stall tactic, folks - the software was never going to exist!

this kid is so full of **** its funny. first the kid says that he reversed the firmware LOL. with no proof i might add. Then he says that he got a C&D letter (without any proof of the program) and that his site will be reopened with JAVA games. basically this kid doesnt even know c/c++. WAB and psp-dev didnt even cop out on a c&d letter. sounds like he's a lonely kid who wanted some attention and have some traffic when his site reopens.. what a lamer
