PSP, Dragon Quest, back on top in Japan

Sony's PSP has once again captured the top crown from the weekly Japanese hardware charts, with Square Enix's DS RPG spin-off, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 taking the top spot of the software department.

For the week ending May 1st, the PSP moved a total of 76,974 units to top the charts, beating its nearest rival, the Nintendo 3DS by 48,561 units. The PS3 came out third, with the Wii and DSi LL rounding off the top five.

Here's Media Create's all platforms sales chart for the week ending May 1st, with last week's sales in parentheses:

PSP: 76,974 (49,162)

Now moving on to the software side of things, the latest installment of the Dragon Quest series was once again the top seller for the week, moving 74,000 units and pushing its total sales above the 400,000 mark. Imageepoch's PSP RPG Final Promise Story debuted in second place, raking in 60,000 units, with El Shaddai, Patapon 3 and Battle & Get! Pokemon Typing DS rounding out the top five respectively.
