Unbound Saga - Image 1Joining the lineup of UMD-less titles for the PSP is the comic book brawler, Unbound Saga from Vogster Entertainment. The publisher believes that the era of direct-to-consumer publishing is now here, and they're merely taking advantage of the new opportunity.

"Vogster is strategically pursuing publishing digitally distributed games and a pure direct relationship to gamers that this business model offers," said Daniel Prousline, Vogster VP of product development. "We think that the era of direct-to-consumer game publishing is here and we want to be best positioned to take advantage," he added, citing that physical delivery has become unpopular and that UMD manufacturing is costly.

For smaller companies such as Vogster, digital download offers more advantages such as the ones that Prousline mentioned. There won't be a need to pay for physical media, the box, printing the game cover, and other related costs. Through digital download, there won't be a need to worry about getting some space and visibility on retailer shelves, and consumers don't even have to leave the house to pick up the game.
