The original PSP really holds a fond spot in the heart of QJ members. After all, in this site's early years, we were dedicated almost entirely to reporting the hacking news about Sony's handheld, so there are plenty of us who still remain loyal to the older piece of hardware. If you're looking to rekindle some of that old fun, you might be interested to know that the PSP 3000 is on sale on Amazon for a mere $100.

You might be asking me, "why on earth would I invest in a console that is about eight years old and far eclipsed by the newer PS Vita." Hear me out for a minute because I will explain the benefits for you. For one thing, the PSP has a whole bunch of great games that you'll be able to purchase for pretty darn cheap these days. As a real PSP veteran, I found myself having the most fun with launch titles like Wipeout: Pure and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, but there are still plenty of recent releases out there for you to try as well. Despite a bit of a lack in software support overall, eight years later you're still going to have a lot to choose from here.

Now for the big reason why a PSP 3000 can still be fun: it's totally and completely hackable! Once you get your shiny new portable, it will likely be on firmware 6.60, however that shouldn't worry you. Through a software driven process that takes no more than fifteen minutes, you'll have a fully open device that is able to play an entire scene worth of homebrew too. Even if you're just looking for something to play some old emulated classics on the go, this will get it done very nicely  for a cheap price. Whether you are looking for a lot of cheap games, or want to see what scene life is all about, this is a deal you shouldn't pass up.
