In stark contrast to the PSP Go's dismal first-week sales in Australia, the PS3 has been performing admirably in the region. Since the PS3 Slim's September 3 launch, the console has been outselling both the Xbox 360 and Wii.

"I can confirm that in excess of 60,000 units of the PS3 120GB have been sold since launch," a Sony spokesperson told GameSpot.

"I can also confirm that since the launch of the new model on September 3 [in Australia], total sales for the period since introduction have outperformed our competition," the rep added.

As for the PSP Go, its rather soft launch still managed to help sell PSPs. According to Sony, the platform as a whole -- including PSP-3000 and software sales -- saw a 100 percent surge

» good to know

It's still going to take ages for the PS3 to catch up to the 360/wii. It;s only outselling them by like ten thousand or so. how long until you reach the 360s 9-10 million lead?

by Aintaer - 2009-10-22 10:11
» Actually...

The 360 only leads by that much in the US. And given Microsoft's strategic emphasis, I'm not surprised.

» 9 to 10 million ? LOL

xbox 360 - 32,643,620

PS3 - 25,523,655

7.1 million

you also have to consider the fact that the xbox360 had a year head start on the playstation

PS3 is catching up fast

by Bountyhunter53 - 2009-10-22 11:02
» True that!

I would've expected for X360 to still stay ahead. But price drops have made it closer to the PS3 prices so its sell sell sell.

The Wii on the other hand is dropping in sales. Probably cause people think its a phase? Im not sure so don't give me unhappy faces....

stupid americans think they are everything, there are other markets out there, and aus/nz is still worthy of a mention, open ur eyes, ps3 is winning everywhere else, and america holds only wat 6% of the worlds population, dont be so narrow minded.

» @h1web

Dude you high? Or got hit by a coconut? Sony gives more support to Japan and US more than the Europeans by 100%. Thats why all European PS3 people have American PSN accounts as well.

If you don't know your facts please don't post stuff that is fanboism. Will get you a crapload of unhappy faces......

by whitecloud - 2009-10-22 14:49
» such a shame

Its sheltered brainwashed outlooks and arrogant unprovoked comments like h1web's that cause the rest of the world to profile americans in such a bad way. They are a multi-national corporation why wouldn't they go abroad? Knuckle Heads? These days Australia is pumping out many people with high end uni degrees, allot of which end up overseas do to better pay options, because there is less demand for them here, because of their quantity. Even so, it wont be too long before the Aussie dollar tops America's, especially with Americas huge debt.

» good for Sony

by Shatterdome - 2009-10-22 16:46

When you factor in the one year lead, PS3 has always been outselling 360....

by Aces In The Palm - 2009-10-22 23:49
» LOL @shatterdome

thats so true

X360 release was nov 2005

ps3 release was nov 2006

32,643,620 / 48 (rounded off to 4 years) equals 680,075 consoles sold per month

25,523,655 / 36 (rounded off to 3 years) equals 708,990 consoles sold per month

What X-Box fanboys don't realize is this isn't just about games anymore. Ever since the creation of Blu-Ray, the Playstation has become far more than you're average home console.

With so many people owning HDTVs nowadays, it's the best value for your money.

Who wants to buy an X-Box, with it's giant power supply, annoyingly loud fans, then go buy a Blu-Ray as well just so you can watch your movies in HD.

h1web, you say "quality beats quantity." Yes, the Quality of my PS3 beats the Quantity of electronics you have on your TV stand.

And come on... go abroad? They're not even an American company. They were going abroad the second they marketed to the US.

Microsoft only got somewhere because half the people who own an X-Box are just slaves to TV and the sh*t they put on there brainwashes them until they have a horde of X-Bots (so to speak.)

X-Box might have some redeeming qualities, but I'll never enjoy a console that was rushed simply to beat everyone else to the next-gen market.

Of those sales for X-Box, how many do you think died? Are they counting replacements?

Quality does beat quantity, and you, h1web, have your head up your ass, sir.

by Aces In The Palm - 2009-10-23 18:24
» h1web got owned LOL

quality beats quantity

you do realise that xbox has the bigger library, right?

by pookiepoo - 2009-10-24 13:48
» PS3 has actually outsold the Xbox
