PS3/ PSp - Image 1We previously gave you a heads-up on what could be the features of Sony PlayStation 3 Firmware 2.20. Now, a new report ups the ante by revealing yet another cool feature.

PC World recently revealed that PS3 FW 2.20 will support "Portable Copy". Essentially, it strengthens the bond of Sony's console with its handheld counterpart, the PlayStation Portable, by allowing movie sharing.

Portable Copy lets users create standard-definition versions of Blu-ray movies and transfers them to the PSP.

This goes with other enhancements that BD-Live, otherwise known as Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0, will bring.

We'll keep an eye out for more information on this exciting development. Keep checking back here with us to make sure you don't miss it.

*Update* Wohoo. Not so fast, sparky. Turns out that PSP Portable Copy may not arrive with PS3 FW 2.20.

You will need approximately 1.5 for an average length movie encoded at 1500 kbps.

# Not clear...Sembazuru 2008-03-24 07:18
One thing that I'm not clear about... Does this "Portable Copy" feature actually transcode the movie to a PSP-friendly format (resolution, file format, etc.), or does it just copy a pre-recorded version of the movie to the PSP?

If the former, GREAT!!! I already transcode DVDs that I have purchased to view on my PSP while riding the train on my daily commute, but have no way of doing this for my BDs. Would I be able to also have subtitles on the transcoded version (sometimes hard to hear the audio even with the volume all the way up on a train, and foreign moves I prefer to hear the original dialog and read the subtitles)?

If the latter, how does one tell when buying a BD movie that it has a pre-recorded version suitable for this feature on the disc?

Hmmm... I think Sony is aware of that. The movie you can transfer to the PSP will probably have some kind of time limit on the PSP or it or it can be played a certain amount of times, then you would have to copy it again, or maybe it will only be playable on the memory stick you transfer the movie. I dunno, but I don't think they are gonna make it easy to be copy.

PS

sorry for my bad English lol
