PS3 drops to dead last in Japan's hardware sales charts |

Handhelds are dominating the hardware sales charts in Japan right now, but the story over there is still the PS3 -- specifically the fact that it has dropped to dead last in the Media Create sales rankings.
The PS3 moved only 2,052 units for the week ended August 23. That's more than a thousand units less than the older PS2. It's quite possible that the lull in sales is because people are waiting for the PS3 Slim to drop. It would be interesting to see the number for that week. Also, contrary to the new pricing scheme for older PS3s in other countries, Sony Japan has chosen to not give the bulkier models a price drop.
At the top of the charts is the DSi. Yep, it's still going strong, selling more than half of the second placer PSP. Rounding out the top four are the Wii and Xbox 360 in third and fourth place, respectively. Here are the charts:
- DSi: 59,578
- PSP: 27,187
- Wii: 26,972
- Xbox 360: 8,979
- DS Lite: 5,735
- PS2: 3,295
- PS3: 2,052

You'd be an idiot to buy a PS3 in Japan right now. Especially if the new one is going to be cheaper.
"selling more than half of the second placer PSP."
... it sold more than psp
actually, even if you want to you cannot buy the ps3 in japan. the old model is sold out everywhere and the slim model is not for sale yet.
After the 1st week of Sept. I wonder what place the PS3 slim is going to jump to? Possibly 1st for a few weeks?
2nd or 3rd. You seriously can't touch the DSi right now. Surprisingly the Wii is down. Probably cause everyone has one now.
Yeah I think they're waiting for the Slim if the Fat didnt gto any price drop...makes sense
PS3 waz soppouse to come out the 1st of september, but over were I live, I have already spotted them at Bestbuy, Wal-mart. and yes there the actual Units, not the box only, its actually the unit itself.
Makes me amazed how everyone is waiting for it to be released when over here it has been a week now or so since me and my friends spotted at the stores.
@freya
yeah and figured out it sucks lol dont hate on me i got one and a ps3 wii is pii
since the ps3 slim is coming and it's cheaper. i guess people are just waiting.
This is Japan we are talking about not the US. Think before you type.
But it won't stop certain 'other' companies from making mud-slinging claims about how they've outsold the PS3 on its 'home-turf' over 4 to 1.
You could have just typed the first eight words and put a period. Now you're just rambling.
Not a shot at "Oh QJ your sooooooooooo late" BS, but these numbers are prior to the price drop. EVERYone knew the drop was coming, especially over there. So they all waited. Cant wait till tomorrow or next day to get the numbers emailed to me, these'll be the first one since price drop! Oh yea, just bought a Slim 3 nights ago so that adds to it lol!
so finally after all this time x360 sold more than ps3 in japan.... yay!!! XD lmfao
You'd think the japanese would realize what a obsolete, overpriced POS the DSi is. It's a nintendo product, so I guess not.
They remove the GBA slot and switch it for a camera and raise the price. Anyone who bought a DSi is an idiot. Complete waste of money, If I wanted to take pictures I'd pull out my phone or buy a camera for a cheaper price. What does a camera have to do with gaming?
Your right Sublime85, just as long as he replaces the word PS3 with 360.
I can only imagine how stupid you'd have to be to buy a wii or DSi now. Isn't that some kind of record for being obsolete and overpriced?
The PS3 is the best value by a wide margin.
I completely agree. The GBA Slot was completely necessary since a lot of people, including myself still play older versions of pokemon.
And yes, no one needs a camera. At least not on a fckkking Gameboy
They obviously meant to say "more than double"
Also, no big surprise, why would you buy a PS3 when there will be a newer smaller version (Japanese love their new/small thing) and it will be cheaper ?
Wait for stats from Sept.....
those xbox 360 buyers are not japanese natives,
they are foreigners in japan just trying to save few bucks cause in japan xbox 360 is cheaper than in other asian countries.
for example in the philippines the xbox 360 arcade costs about 300 dollars, hence 30 percent cheaper in japan (19,998yen or lower in some japanese stores).
I didn't know the DS and Wii were obsolete going off how well they're selling. Shouldn't they be not selling software either (check the software charts) to be called obsolete?
lol even the good ol' ps2 is selling more
