PS3 beats Wii in Japan's hardware sales for week ending Nov 11 |

There's been an interesting turn of events despite Mario's intergalactic adventure (Super Mario Galaxy, anyone?). Japan's Media Create sales tracking service has released the hardware charts for the week ending November 11.While last week's top two platforms - the Nintendo DS and PSP, respectively - retain their thrones, the PS3 pushed past from fifth place all the way up into third this week. From last week's total sales of 17,434 units, the PS3 has managed to sell 55,964 units from November 5 to 11 in Japan. That's like... *calculates* a 320% increase?
The notable bump up to PS3 hardware sales has forced the Wii and Xbox 360 down. There's quite a gap between the PS3 and Wii too (a difference of 20,000 units sold), while the Xbox 360 dropped to sixth place and putting the PS2 up to fifth.
It seems that the DS and PSP are still going strong. Last week's software charts was dominated by Mario Party DS, but second place was held by the PS3's Shin Sangoku Musou 5 - well, the Japanese do love their Dynasty Warriors.

- Nintendo DS = 78,884 units sold
- PSP = 58,964 units sold
- PlayStation 3 = 55,924 units sold
- Nintendo Wii = 34,546 units sold
- PlayStation 2 = 9,043 units sold
- Xbox 360 = 5, 817 units sold

Still, it nothing new to see a new game rampage the sales! The ds, still, will surely never really move from the 1st place (low price, lots of games, casual). But it's cool to see 50k sales in a week by the ps3.

Japan is the third largest region for gaming, you'd have to be a complete moron to not care about them if you're selling a console. Not to mention that EVERY past console that has come out on top has ALWAYS been most dominant in Japan. Your complete ignorance and fanboyism is disgusting btw.
Japan is very vital to every system success, take a note if MS doesn't find a way to get very high sales in japan They WILL NOT!!! win this gen. Its been Proven fact by Sony. Since they won both generations in Japan. However Wii is currently on top overall but its too early.

Looks like the Wii is beginning it's long journey to failure once all the casual gamers get theirs. It sold 11 million in a year, now it will probably sell half that the next year because Nintendo thinks they don't need to do anything to keep it successful other than a few gimmicky controllers (like wii fit) and one or two high rating games.
Looks like game companies that actually put effort into delivering games and new features into their products will come out on top.
Goodbye Nintendo, when nobody cares about the Wii anymore, why not make toys again like you did in the 70s? Oh wait, the Wii is nothing more than a toy.

Well a 250% raise in one week are not to take too seriously. It's the same thing that happened when there were the price cut and people were all Whoa, the Wii is getting powned by the PS3, their sale rose 300% in 1 week....then it got back to even worst than what it was before.
Even if the Wii is only selling half of it's current selling rate, it'll still be more than what the other 2 are doing. It's a great analysis to say that since sales drop 5% for the Wii, everyone is done with it. It surely can't be because of other factors. So 5% this month = 50% next month? Still the number stays pretty close to the numbers of units that came out of the factory.
I'm pretty sure the situation will maintain.
Anyway we can still hope the much awaited Kane and Lynch and Assasin's creed will move those systems.... oh wait, they are as a big of a dissapointment as the system selling LAIR. I don't have the same definition of System sellin software I guess.
Anyway, still Ratchet and Clanck could give a nice boost and a great addition to any PS3 library.

I don't support other consoles once i'm sold on a particular brand, but in the case of nintendo--they are doing ok. I'm not a fanboy of the wii (how could you be really) but I grew up with nintendo so I have a little place in here in my heart for them but the wii was a total "dire distress" type sales attempt at a dying company. Their sales dropped since the gamecube incredibly. This was because they were riding on the N64's huge success. Like any other company, they went for another round with the rest of the market releasing the GC only to find out they didn't quite have the same fanbase as they did before. Nintendo was basically surviving on handhelds and first party titles. NOW, they are dominating again by switching it up in the consoles and really sticking to roots in handhelds. But, like I said, the wii is retarded for serious gamers. It IS for casual gamers who need training wheels before they will ride on the 1300CC badass crotch rocket we call the PS3.

Even though the Gamecube had a huge spike in sales when it had it's first price drop obviously didn't make king of last generation.
I'm not saying that Sony can't win, because any console can win, but to base the winner of this console race on a couple "spikes" in sales is silly.
