PS Biz Brief '06 Reports

Sony had a lot to say at their recent press conference regarding the PS3, PS2, and even the PSP. Most importantly, the PS3 is currently set for a worldwide release in November in North American, Asian, and European territories. After seeing how the Xbox 360 launch suffered from massive shortages, hopefully Sony can learn from Microsoft's mistakes.

In addition, Sony is going to an online tool similar to Xbox Live where gamers chat, match up against each other, and even boot stuff from their 60GB hard drive all free of charge. Not only will the PS3 be backwards compatible, but it will play all of the legacy titles in high-definition, so all of your PS1 and PS2 games will look a lot sharper.

Other announcements include the "PSP E-Distribution", which will allow people to boot downloadable PSOne games directly off of their memory stick. The PSP is also expected to see its own version of the EyeToy, and this might even make it a portable video phone in conjunction with the planned video chat features as well. A GPS receiver is already in the works, and Macromedia Flash will finally be included in a Spring update.

This is just the beginning of Sony's Business Briefing in Tokyo, so expect to hear a lot more about their consoles throughout the day!
