Remember just the other day when PSU reported of Sony acquiring Rockstar? To recap, the previous post, we heard from PSU that: "Various sources in the press and development team state that Sony is looking to take Rockstar 'under their wings'." Apparently, it's all just some big misunderstanding. Over at the PSU forums, someone's posted the explanation of Justin Pinter as to how this came about.It all started with an event that they attended: Sony gathered a bunch of journalists and media representatives for dinner at some sushi place in Santa Monica (mmmmm, sushi). The dinner progressed and with other journalists on the table, they went on to talk about the industry news:
We all talked about Bioshock, Tivo, video on demand, and then eventually made our way to the recent talk of Rockstar going exclusive with Sony after GTA IV with such titles as LA Noire, and the secret PS3 title. The talk lead to someone stating that they knew that not only was the rumor correct but there was more to it. Basically from what I heard, Sony was taking Rockstar under its wing. Now I don't know if that means they are buying them or if they are supporting them as if they were someone like Naughty Dog or Insomniac.
Now here's when things got messy. Upon coming back from the dinner, Justin Pinter had contacted the other staffers of PSU and told them of how the event went. One of the writers had picked up on the "Sony takes Rockstar under its wing" angle and wrote about it on their site.
Unfortunately it was notched as "News" when it actually would have to have been tagged under "Rumor". And with that, everything cascaded into one big ordeal. PSU apologizes for the misunderstanding and hopes that they've been able to clear things up now.
So what's the lesson here, kids? Sushi dinners make for interesting industry news/rumors. And knowing is half the battle. Yo... Joe!

I knew that it wasn't true and even if it was microsoft will give them another 50 Million and there would be another GTA game for Xbox 360
Peoples heads almost blew up when this rumor broke out. Its just goes to tell you that a rumor is a rumor.
Heres another rumor for ya...Sony has approached Blizzard in regards to bringing the juggernaut that is WoW to the PS3. Wrap your heads around that

The rumor was Rockstar was bought by Sony which means that Rockstar would only make a games and Sony would be the publisher dum dum.
Your logic would be like Bungie or Epic would port over Gear of War and Halo to the PS3 despite having MS as its publishers. Yeah your were the first to post a comment..the first dumbest one.

First, ps3 fanboys were crying about losing exclusives and braging how it could be done better on the ps3 than the 360.
Then when the rumor spread out about RockStar.....(man this $h!t funny)....360 fanboys were crying and saying that they dont need them, that GTA is gay and boring...and all this bull.

If Rockstar ends up being 2nd party it's basically the same thing with just a little less of Sony breathing down their necks.
It makes sense they'd want to make such a move so they have a large corporation protecting them from the ESRB who is going to be having a videogame witch hunt in the next few years it feels like.

The funny thing is, the people who have a 360 know that im a female because Ive played with a handful of people from this community on Xbox Live. Not only am I not a male, but Im also not a spic. Even if you were tone deaf and couldnt discern a male voice from a female voice, you would be able to tell that I have a Brittish accent, and not a Spanish one.

As for the rumor that R* was going to be bought out by Sony, most 360 people didnt care. I most certainly dont remember seeing 360 fans crying about it. R* has one good game franchise that only gets more and more stale as each new GTA game comes out. There are so many knock offs of GTA (Just Cause, Saints Row, etc etc) that losing R* would be like losing a company that can only make the same FPS games over and over, no one would care, they would just move on to a different FPS.
It sounds to me like you are just sour because talented companies like Ubi dont even try to make good games for the ps3. I would much rather have Ubi in my corner with its many franchises (Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon, Assassins Creed, Rayman, etc) than R* with its single good franchise.
Sorry to step into this little fight of yours, but Rockstar is more than just GTA as you oversimplified it to be.

Developing for the PS3 is horribly expensive. This is why all the big boys are the only ones who have released thus far. R* may have a popular series, but they aren't BIG. And, even the BIG companies put out "crap" PS3 ports (how can you mess up a port...EA?). The "under the wing" comment translates to "going to get help from Sony to develop PS3 products." I don't know what that help is but I'm guessing some type of vertical teaming where Sony employees assist with PS3 development.

One Word: Halo 3
Since Halo is already an exclusive youre kinda missing the point. Lets take another FPS into concideration. Lets look at Rainbow Six. If Rainbow Six became exclusive only to MS then Im sure you wouldnt care because you have Resistance, Ghost Recon, and tons of other FPS to play.
Well, the same goes for Xbox. If MS lost Rainbow Six then we would just move on to something better, perhaps Halo.
Losing GTA is pretty much the same thing. You could compare GTA to Halo if Halo wasnt an exclusive. Most Sony fans dont care about Halo because even if they did care about it, they wouldnt be able to play it on a PS3. If GTA went exclusive to just Sony a lot of people would just get another sandbox game (the 360 has many of these GTA clones), there would be a slight surge in PS3 sales, and the GTA fanbase would decrease instead of increase since not everyone wants to get a ps3 just for one or two games.
R* doesnt have enough games to make it that big of a deal if sony really does take them in. Theyre really only known for the GTA franchise, even though they have made other games aside from GTA.

It's cool that you are a girl...however, I totally disagree with your statement about GTA. GTA is a huge franchise, that's why Peter Moore said at the E3 conference that GTA, Madden and Halo were the most important. Secondly, those spin-offs of GTA that are Saints Row and such are just that, spin-offs. They aren't as fun as GTA and it would be a huge loss to Microsoft and many of it's consumers.But let's not forget the other franchises that Rockstar unleish, Midnight Club, Manhunt, Table Tennis, LA Noire, RDR, and of course the secret franchise that is coming to the PS3 real soon. All of em are or were ground breaking titles, so R* wouldnt be such a small loss for Microsoft.

I love how AxSxSxMxIxLxK is so blind. GTA? Another sandbox game? ROFL...it's one of the greatest selling franchise in gaming history. There is a reason why people continue to buy the games, and it won't stop. R* is great at what they do, whether it's moral or not. Not only does GTA set the standard for it's genre, it raises the bar AND is the father of sandbox gaming. Losing R* and GTA is equivalent to losing Bungie and Halo.
Regarding Ubisoft, they're no better than EA. In fact, they're just a European version of EA with better talent. They pump out games on a yearly basis with barely any upgrades or change in gameplay. You're telling me that if you lose Rainbow Six, you'd jump on to Halo. By that logic if you were to lose Halo, you'd move on to nothing since it's you're holy grail of gaming? Or perhaps you might jump to the PC since ALL XBlowx711 fps are done better on there anyways.

you cant compare halos situation to gta because there are many fps' that are excellent (rainbow six: vegas). Its different with gta because there isn't even one game like gta that is even half as good. The freedom in gta takes huge leaps every time. For me and a lot of other people there is no real alternative to GTA just cuz its THAT good.

Everybody knows that GTA gets worse and worse with each consecutive game that's released. I don't see why anyone would care if GTA is exclusive or not as the series isn't worth playing after GTA3.
