We've got a hefty update for all you anticipating the release of Sega and Alfa Systems' Phantasy Star Portable. We were able to discover the Japanese release date and some details on the game.Better mark your calendars, boys and girls! On July 31, 2008, the game will be released in Japan. Even if there's still no information if the game will be released in other territories, you can always import them.
Aside from this tasty tidbit of information on the game, we present you guys with in-game details that you can expect from it. Here they are:
- There are plans to possibly link PSP with the PC/PS2 version of AOTI's network mode which might allow you to transfer your online character data to the PSP version of the game. Note operative words: "possibly" and "might."
- A special mission for both the PC/PS2 version of AOTI and the PSP version of PSP will be released to commemorate the release of PSP.
- The choices you make throughout PSP's story mode will reflect on the ending you receive. There will be multiple possible endings.
- Over 1500 items will be present in PSP, including many from PSU and AOTI.
- Item drop methods will be undergoing a change, but specifics have not been released.
- Illustrated item and enemy reference sections will be included.
- Your personal mission history (grades, clear times, etc.) will be recorded.
- It's possible that a "title" system may be implemented.
- Downloadable missions will be introduced with this game.

I seriously pray that they do not allow them to link... While I am thrilled that the PSP will get a Phantasy Star game, I'm heavily avoiding any online play with it as it is. The PSP is has no security, and CWCheat has ruined every online game I've touched. Already wasted my money with Monster Hunter games, to go online and have newbs with max gold, super items and equipment, etc. We don't need them linking up to the PC/PS2 and just spamming with floods of new items and such. IMHO, no PSP game can make it online as long as CWCheat exists.
But unlike most of the online PSP games, PSU admins will ban them.
For example: I was a big fan of metal gear solid portable ops +, the online mode was great until it was mostly full of players who lag but still manage to strike some headshots on you. And I completely stopped playing the game some time when half of the community all had hacked soldiers and hacked camos/hp/stamina, etc.
The fun ended because of all the damn hacks! If it comes to the states and europe then just make sure you report any hackers/cheaters!

i would neva play a psp game 'without' cwcheat enabled, but Ive not once used it to cheat with a PSP title. You would think there would be no point in cheating online too. Wouldnt be too bad if it were just used for its nicer features like remapsp, screenshot and (although it doesnt really apply to PSP Online games) PS1 save converting.
If you dont like a cheater then you can always choose not to play with them. Thats the benefit of password protecting your gameroom. Dont forget, pull up your zipper, install antivirus on your computer, lock your front door when you come home and pw protect your game rooms.
Remember cheating is only beating restrictions set to make the game fun. Who the heck is going to play with a cheater? So its like making a ripping program to take the fun away. If you like unfair advantages stick to 1 player or make your own world to fail in.

Public rooms shouldn't be for hackers only, if anything hackers should be restricted to their own private rooms. Most people don't cheat to get around restrictions, they cheat so they have an easy advantage and just to grief. It's immaturity at it's finest in the online world.

and good thing about PSO & PSP is that you organize your own game and you are in controls, so basicly I usually played with my friends and cousins :)

So if i read this correctly there may be a chance this has online multiplayer?!? im a huge fan of monster hunters online, and since that isnt online enabled (right out of the box) this could be what alot of people are looking for. man.......i cant wait to see how this turns out.
one question tho.
the pc/ps2 versions are pay to play online. this wont be the case with the psp version will it??.
I definitely agree, cwcheat has ruined a countless number of great psp games. (Eg. MGS, MOH 1-2, Killzone, and of course: Socom)

If the admin really do ban accounts in this upcoming (hopefully good) Phantasy Star then i'll pick this up in a heartbeat lol.
Admins could ban people's mac address if thats possible. Since mac addresses are unique to each PSP.
PSO will be online, I can say that. It wouldn't be Phantasy Star Online otherwise. The question into play on the maybe, is whether or not it would be compatible with other consoles for online (although I'm sure if SEGA doesn't make it so, there is another group that will).
Now as for banning. For 1, MAC addresses are NOT unique for PSP's, or anything at that. There are ways to change it on your PSP, just like how in Windows, all you have to do is find it in your registry. Coming from a programmer's P.O.V., it would be best to ban on a few 'areas'. For one, the Guild Card, or basically the Account Name. A more effect way, would be to modify certain core files in the flash level of your PSP. Adding files would easily be seen and deleted. Editing files with a harmless bit change that PSO will look for, will help prevent most from finding it and fixing it. But, then again, if they are banning accounts, and this game will be a Pay-to-Play, then that will be very affective.
Now onto how they will ban. The game operates in 1-4 player 'rooms'. What goes on in those rooms, an Admin would not see. It all is monitored just by the game's programing, and the server. Now you can put 100% security onto the server, that would minimize the client's size. However, that's more load on the server, and thus slower responses when trying to maintain thousands of people, aka Lag. PC got owned on the packet sending part of things, PSP is less likely to get hit there, but still could be a problem. It's much harder to detect packet hacks, as the server is getting legit information and responding as it should be. Again though, Admins DO NOT get to monitor those things. Admins could join into a game if it had room for another player, but there can be thousands of games running. Checking those all could be a problem. I don't know how many rooms per lobby there can be, but there are about 20 lobbies per ship, then a few ships per server. So if there are 50 rooms (games) allowed per lobby, each ship has 1000 games alone. Also, people can lock their games. Yes, it's a good way to keep hackers out, also Admins out from knowing you are hacking, but it also keeps people out whom you might make friends with. Whats the point of playing online if you aren't there for playing with others (Showing off, that's the answer, thus is where hackers get off from).
So unless someone goes in, running around the lobby with hacks, like walk through walls, or a hidden skin, an Admin isn't that much help. I DLed and tested a PSO for the PC, Meseta hacked it in 3 minutes, I will say, good protection on the hacks for that, but variables that flow so widely as Meseta, are hard to protect. As for item's, they had good security there, could read and detect items before picking them up and identifying them, but without packet sending, not much could be done. However, I found a 'glitch hack', that made my character think they had a different item on than they did, thus altering the attack animation. I swung my beginning saber 4 times, and a 5th hit on the 'recoil' animation at the end. Or I could get either my sword or gun to attack 3 times really fast, no recoil, and not moving from place. This was a pirate server that had more protection than the real servers did, taken up as some of the real servers went offline years ago. But that testing didn't prevent others from getting into my game, with weapons of all types, even some you couldn't get in the game without hacking, as well as they went straight through my password screen, or figured out the password: momo1664qwedsaqa12 in less than 5 minutes of trying to brute force.
Again, my stand is that online games are too easily hacked. I program a bit, have my own server/client game (2D only) and know there are major leaks that make it hard to have the game running. Not all can be fixed, and in PSO's case, it's already had it's leaks, and Admins won't help.
