This week's issue of Famitsu has a new feature about Hideo Kojima's next opus, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The mag discusses two new features integrated into the PSP game: Vocaloid software integration and interactive cutscenes.

Vocaloid, which will be familiar to those who've come across the Hatsune Miku videos and games, is a piece of voice-synth tech from Yamaha. The software will be used for in-game weapons that have AI installed on them. According to 1Up's translation, this will let the supported weapons sing and scream while they attack you, which sounds both awesome and creepy at the same time.

Much has been said about Kojima's propensity for long, long cutscenes, so Kojima Productions is bringing a measure of interactivity to those found in the game. Don't expect anything drastic, though. Thanks to input from art director Yoji Shinkawa, players will be able to control the game's 2D cutscenes to some extent.

"For example," Shinkawa explains, "if you zoom in on the scene where you first meet Paz, you can see the uniform she has on under her coat, and then what's under that. It's an idea I came up with while thinking about what makes games different from movies or animation. I think it's pretty interactive."

Peace Walker also has an ace in the hole that Kojima is keeping a tight lid on, and apparently it's big enough to convince people to go right out and buy a PSP once the game is released.

"I'm putting everything I want to do on a portable console into this game," says Kojima. "I haven't announced this yet, but there's another feature in here that will surprise people, to the point where they'll want to go out and buy a PSP right now!"

» Sorry

but the vocaloid thing is a retarded idea. And since MGS games are mostly cut scenes it's appropriate they be "interactive" in some way. That's what a game *is*.

I think Kojima might be losing his touch with non-Japanese gamers, to be honest.

In my opinion, he's already lost too much touch with his JAPANESE gamers. Glad he's going back to roots.

» Many of

MGS4's cut scenes were interactive anyway so I think it's cool that they can do the same with the PSP.

» screaming weapons?

i wonder do they mean like in mgs3 subsistence when you hold down the fire button using the heavy machine gun as snake, and you hear screaming? that would be awesome.
