Pachter says reworking Manhunt 2 may cost US$ 1 million

manhunt 2 - Image 1 If Rockstar wants its extremely controversial Manhunt 2 title to have a less daunting ESRB rating and be made available in the UK, it has to shell out some serious green to the tune of a million bucks.

That's according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter, who says that Rockstar must tone down the content if they want big revenues in the future.

"They will probably spend US$ 1 million or so to rework the game. They will not have revenue from the game this quarter (ending July), so they will likely miss their guidance, but will make up most of it in a future quarter when the game is released," he says.

Pachter adds "the overall financial impact is not that serious, provided sales don't suffer. It is hard to know whether the publicity helps or hurts, but my guess is that it hurts."

The game was slapped an Adults Only rating in the United States by the ESRB and was banned altogether by the BBFC, prompting the title's developers and publishers to take a step back on distribution plans. Here's hoping for the best in the months to come for Manhunt 2.

» Really?

What kind of analyst is Micheal Patcher anyway? 1 million dollars sound like a very generic answer, why not be a little more specific like around 815,000 or 1,250,000

by world - 2007-06-25 13:26
» nope

I won't buy it. This game is pure evil and heartless! No thanks.

by sg57 - 2007-06-25 13:37
» uh huh

Pure evil? If it were 'pure evil' it wouldn't be distributed altogether. Imbecile.

I'm angry that they are toning it down. This game could've been the goriest/scariest/most violent game ever...

Sh*t...Now they are probably going to make the game more generic and boring.

I hope they release the AO and the M rated versions seperately. I've played the first Manhunt, and I really want to know what's so bad about the second one to warrant an AO rating. The first Manhunt wasn't as bad as half the stuff you see and hear about on the news anyway, so why would this one be any different?

"New on the 6:00 news: People are outraged at the new video game, Manhunt 2 because it's too graphic. Also, 14 people were strangled, raped, cut up and then killed on Highway 128 earlier today. Grim footage and all the details tonight, at 6!"

Double standard idiots...

» manhunt is messed

manhunt really is a sick twiseted game. but its no worse then saw or those other new *****ty horror movies. so they shouldnt be banning it. its not going to create murderers. but it will have affects on people. (not everyone.) but this game is not for me so i wont be buying and couldnt care less about the delays or whatever. but for the people who do care about this game. best of luck to you!

» *sigh*

Even if the game is reworked and some things are cut out and assuming that it is still a mature AA title, I'd be willing to fork over an extra $5 if it means more original content of the sort in the future. We as gamers need to unite and sound off with our dollars as our voice- stop buying minigame collections and start by picking up the Twilight Princesses, the Red Steels, and the RE4's of the gaming world. This ***** is going to keep happening unless we show the government and the industry what we want and what we're willing to buy...

» F.ck ESRB rating

Just bypass it by not seling in uk & usa, but by selling it on a carabean internet site.

I'm pretty sure that all people over the world who want it will buy it.

Just show to censorship, the power of the Internet.

» you manhunt haters are real pathetic people

Its really sad that people out there are so mentally unstable, and have such a poor grip on reality that they have to jump on the floor and start kicking and screaming because they think a game is a murder training simulation, ITS A GAME, JUST A f***ING PIECE OF SOFTWARE, its wire mesh wraped with pixel skin with a load of red pixels coming out of pixel people to represent blood, CAN YOU IDIOTIC ACTIVISTS REALLY NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CARTOON-LIKE PIXELS AND REAL LIFE, listen to my words IT...IS...JUST...A...GAME!!! ...IT...IS...NOT...REAL!!!
