One-hour standoff at GameStop ends peacefully, two suspects arrested |
Ó
About an hour before the 9PM closing time, two guys went into the
GameStop on Kruse Drive in Solon, Ohio. Oh they weren't there to
pre-order Killzone 2, those guys were out to mug the place dry before the close for the day.Just before 8PM last Saturday, police got a call from the Macedonia Gamestop, telling them that two armed guys in hoodies and ski masks have entered the Solon Gamestop. Lucky for the Solon branch, their manager was on the phone with the manager from the Macedonia store, who was able to call the cops on the two suspects.
When the police arrived, one of them was still inside the store, while the other was trying to make a run for it on the roof. Since they were informed that the guys were armed, they call in the SWAT for backup. At about 8:30PM, one of the robbers called the police saying he wanted to give up. Eventually, the other one was apprehended as well, but they didn't release the names.
The whole thing lasted about an hour, but thankfully, no shots had to be fired, no one got hurt, and the standoff ended peacefully.
Interestingly enough, it wasn't the first time for that particular GameStop. It was the third attempt on that store for the past 12 months, while other businesses in the shopping districts have been targeted as well.
This GameStop deal is still good:

so its a bad hood
I feel bad for the workers there... I would have quit...
"I'm sorry sir we sold our last copy of gripshift 5 minuets ago..."
lol just thought of that when i read this, funney eh?
C'mon QJ!!
What I find funny is that if they were trying to steal games, it's just easier to download them and hack the consoles.
And as for money, the tills usually don't have that much in them since most people pay with trade-in credit or debit/credit cards for $100+ purchases.
All that'd be worth going through the trouble of stealing would be a few consoles and Rockband/Guitar Hero bundles. And I can't see how 2 guys could get all those out of the store and into a vehicle before cops arrived.
If it were me, I'd try my luck at the Advance America next store instead...
They must have owned PS3s.
i sense great wisdom in those words.
they played too much GTA4 and went to trade it in, only to realize that u cant walk in the store pretending to be Niko Belik
Maybe one of them played too much Mirror's Edge and tried to re-enact running away on rooftops.
worst joke ever.
and blame this on gta
I really don't see how that would have any bearing on any of this. If you're trying to play the video games made them do this crap, then it would be more likely that they owned 360s.
I don't honestly believe this, I just used your logic.
Torch said that because you can't hack a ps3, the original poster said it was so easy to pirate games, except it's not possible for the ps3
Most epic fail on trying to use the phrase "Epic fail."
that one was actually good haha
The question I want to know is how the hell did that guy get on the roof?
quit? I would of asked for a raise!
this seems like one of those "blame it on the video games" moments.
Yeah like they'll give you that.
she knows how
or lara croft
or nathan drake
or prince
Either that, or they're just hardcore PS3 fanboys who will go through a lot more for something they could've got for free on the 360. Minus MGS4, Uncharted, Resistence, etc. of course.
Considering that this was armed *robbery*, I think the guys were after *cash*. But, if they were looking for games to sell somewhere (to another Gamestop? --that would be illogical, no?), then PS3 games are generally discounted less than 360 games and those would be the logical choice. However, if this was a an 'armed fanboy assault' (as suggested quite ridiculously by Specht, Torch, and others above), then I think they'd be 360 owners. ...Because the system is cheap, and they were trying to get more-for-nothing. ;-p
Those of you saying this is a situation in which they'll blame their actions on games don't seem to have read the full article. It seems that you suggest that they will blame it on games based only on the fact that the store robbed primarily sells games. It says at the bottom of the article that "other businesses in the shopping districts have been targeted as well."
The GameStop isn't the only victim. This sounds more like a case of an easy and frequently chosen target.
I was being a bit sarcastic about the fanboy thing, lol.
The point remains, that, there are many other stores worth sticking up than a Gamestop. Since stealing video games usually doesn't require the use of a gun. Or anything but a mouse and keyboard.
And as I said, they don't have much cash in the till either. In fact, a coffee shop would be more likely to have more cash on hand than a game retailer.
I missed the last sentence. I stopped reading when it said this Gamestop has been hit before.
whats with gamestops being robbed lately.
my gamestop got robbed a couple weeks ago 2 by only one guy! its terrible luck and im just glad i had the morning shift that day. but also glad no one got hurt.
Only Gamestop is allowed to rip people off!
Here we go with the GTA stories again...
