On shelves right now: the PSP Go |
Ó
Finally, it's October 1st - Sony is proud to launch the latest addition to the PSP roster, the PSP Go. Accompanying the release is a lineup of titles, content, and offers that all look to turn that "no" into a "Go." Enough of the babbling, let's get right to it.
To help your Go-gaming get started, virtually every PSP title from this point on will be available at the PlayStation Store for download using Wi-Fi, via Media GO on the PC, or using your PS3. If you caught the latest PlayStation Store update, there's quite a long list of PSP content over there, so be sure to check it out. Some of those include:
- PlayStation Network exclusives such as PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe (available today), Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake and LocoRoco 2: Midnight Carnival
- Bite-sized “minis,” such as Tetris and Fieldrunners, ideal for quick gameplay sessions on-the-go
- More than 150 titles previously released on UMD Legacy titles such as God of War: Chains of Olympus, Madden NFL 10, Soulcaliber Broken Destiny, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
- More than 60 PS one Classics titles including Final Fantasy 7 and Metal Gear Solid
- More than 2,300 movies and 13,000 TV shows from major studios and content partners
Of course, Sony won't be letting retailers go empty-handed with the software. For that, they're also rolling out PlayStation Network Game Cards that you can purchase at participating retailers.
Now, enough of the software and let's move on to the peripherals. The following will be available to use with the PSP Go:
- Memory Stick Micro M2 – Amp up your memory capacity and save even more games, videos, music and photos
- Cradle – Dock your PSPgo system to charge it, sync content with your PC or use video-out to view on a big screen
- Carrying Case – Store and protect your PSPgo system with stylish, durable carrying cases
- Screen Protective Film – Save the ultra-crisp LCD screen from surface scratches
- In-ear Headset – Listen to games, movies, and music with this premium quality headset
- Use with DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller and Bluetooth Headset – Use PSPgo with these PS3 peripherals
- AV Cables – Enjoy games and videos stored on your 16GB flash memory on the big screen
- AC Adaptor and Car Adaptor – Charge your PSPgo at home or in the car

So anyone brave/stupid enough to buy this thing then?
Mine was delivered about 30 minutes ago.
Be good to hear some first impressions when you played it a bit.
www.sony.com/mylo , also thats what M$ and PSN been doing trying to get rid of media and still charge you full price =(
I'd be interested to know if the buttons are mapped differently for the dualshock than the standard psp buttons. Meaning, do the r2, l2, and analog sticks work for ps1 games? (yes I know you can remap the psp so that the analog nub takes the place of the d-pad, but I'm talking about jenuine analog controls). Also, I'd be curious to know if rumble works in ps1 games. "Poor Snake. Put the controller on your arm."
Also, psp games should start including rumble for players using a dualshock 3.
I have yet to see any UK retailer place this device on their front page. If you didn't already know about this thing, you'd never find it at retail over here.
Sad. I am most impressed by the sale on the US PSN store though, shame the UK one is about as much use a ***** flavoured lollipop.
Either later tonight or tomorrow. I'm at work now and won't be home until later, and Fringe comes on TV tonight, so I won't have all that much time to mess with it. I'll definitely get some use out of it over the weekend.
This system sucks.
The system is overpriced and undersupported (no umd conversion) but I wouldn't say it sucks. If it cost $180 or so and I could play all my current games on it, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. Also, it'd be nice if I could keep using my 16G pro duo with it.
My psp 1000 is nice and I really like it, but it's not the easiest thing to tote around (makes a huge bulge in my pocket when I stick my psp inside logitech case in my pocket). I would welcome the smaller size and 16G onboard mem. So it's Sony's way of handling the system that sucks, but the system itself looks pretty good. If it ever gets hacked so I can rip all my umd's to it (.... yeah, and my pirated games too....) I'd still buy it even at $250.
Preordered; picked it up over lunch.
the PSP Go! is nothing more then a re-made PSP with No UMD and even worse placed controls.
Even if you Don't have a PSP "Do NOT buy this" just a waste of money. Go buy a PSP Slim or Hell a PSP Fat would be better then this Crap.
does this have a l2 and r2?
I just got mine and man is the the greatest portable system ever.
Those of you hating, just get one and try it. Bet u wont say it sucks
its not a new PSP...its just a remake of it..again
My local Gamestation has a big picture of it covering half the front window, i'm surprised a store like that wouldn't sweep the launch under the rug, anyway i'll look in on tuesday and give it a try.
Man you are full of it why are you saying something like this is the greatest portable system ever....just to let you know I have a GP2x wiz and just put my order in to get a Pandora handheld system and this thing sucks balls compared to this system.....you just wasted your money on this trash and next they will be coming out with the PSP2 and then what Im glad that you dont know what the real homebrew community is saying about this system while you paid full price for this I will just wait for my Pandora system to arrive and I will give you the blow by blow about the greatest handheld that has ever been made and pay for power than pay for the same damn thing......What you said is the dumbest thing I have ever heard......!!!!!!
"he PSP Go! is nothing more then a re-made PSP"
duh
speaking of dumbest thing ever said:
"the PSP Go! is nothing more then a re-made PSP"
$199.99 is the price I would go for.
I second and third that because if people are here to say that this handheld is the best thing since sliced bread then they can go and get a freakin life.......
So when I opened the box, it almost slid right out as I didn't realize it was upside down. Anyhow, the PSP is perfectly fine. When I saw it my first thought was "Man this thing is small." It does have a nice weight in your hands. I immediately put big fingerprints on the screen while admiring the LRF (little rubber feet) on the back of the unit. Opening the screen is firm and springy and the screen looks great once I cleaned it up. Its a great looking device. The controls feel fine in my hand but I'm really looking forward to seeing how the dual shock feels. I'm draining the battery all the way now so I can get a full charge over night. Overall I'm liking it so far.
I won't really trust anyone's views on how good this thing is for at least another 2 weeks, i mean most people if they spend a lot on something they'll try to convince themselves and everyone else it's good, give it 2 weeks when the sheen of newness wore off and people will be honest.
I was thinking the same thing. Then I heard about a deal where you can get one for basically $195 from dell. So what you do is go to delldotcom and put a PSP in your cat. Enter the code 6FWJ247J1P44CK and it will take the price to $212. If you search dell using bing then you can get like 15% bing cash back. on top of it all you can choose free next day shipping. This is the best deal around.
I've been messing with the dualshock3 compatibility and its nice. No rumble, but still really good response. On the downside, you marry the controller to the PSPgo so it loses its functions to the PS3 until you re-register it to the ps3. Still not bad at all.
Which is why I'm holding off on posting a review.
Thanks for the info on the deal at delldotcom. Usually I miss these sorts or bonus offers by a couple days. I bought mine from dell ~30 min. after you posted the coupon code. Bing (10% cashback dell site-wide) may have shafted me, though. We'll see! Not including possible cash back from bing, my total was $233.21 after tax at dell.
do you think it was worth it?
i'm probably going to pick one up
You wasted $250 like a good lemming. Good for you!
Bing can be slow producing the cash back. Don't expect quick results from them... Just eventual results.
thequickone: Looks like you were quick enough to get this one hur hur. ;) Glad I could help out.
Definitely. Dualshock3 compatibility takes away any of my complaints about the controls (which aren't that bad to start off). I was really impressed that you can close then unit and keep playing games using the dualshock. Unlike Nineball, I can afford the purchase and I don't need to ridicule those who have worked hard for their money to afford such things. It sounds to me that Nineball's mammy wouldn't buy him a Go so he chooses to bash those that have jobs.
This isn't a new product. Its simply another PSP. I think anyone who's gamed on one long enough can tell right away whether they're going to like it or not. I love the new dual shock compatibility so much. Its quick and responsive and thats really all I could ask for.
It might have basically the same tech underneath but it's the external details that make the difference, i mean it's like comparing an old Beetle to a Porsche because they have the same chassis, the Psp go will be more practical to carry around but it could be spoiled by the feel of the control layout.
Thanks for reply on dualshock 3. Too bad there's no rumble, but I didn't really think there would be. I suppose Sony could add it in a future firmware, but I doubt they will.
Still curious about L2/R2 and analog stick support on dualshock, though. Do they work in ps1 games, or do you have to stick with the d-pad for L2/R2 functionality.
On a side note, I hope future psp games will let you use the second analog stick when using a ds3. They could finally make fps games that play decently on psp.
I'm curious if Gran Turismo recognizes the ds3 and lets you remap the controls (like use the L2/R2 and second analog). I really miss the setup I used on the old GT games where I'd map the gas/brake to the right analog stick.
Tell me one good game coming out for it. It is like a generic ds w/ dual anaolog and a qwerty keyboard. Just a Pda really. Take your Pandora system and shove it up your azz chump. Also the PSP GO is a waste of money.
will have to be hacked to play ps2 eboots and coffee and donuts for you to stop hating on it.
get a life.
Its not at all like comparing a Porsche to a Beetle. The PSPgo's chassis is totally different than any other PSP. It would be more like taking a Porsche engine, and then putting it in a smaller, but equally heavy, car (made by Porsche) so that your horsepower to weight ratio is not thrown off. So the end result would be a car that still has the same 0-60, handling, suspension ect... but it fits in urban parking spots better because of its smaller form factor. The main difference is that the steering wheel is in a new position, and you can upgrade the steering wheel. It's really still the same PSP only smaller.
The basic analogy still stands, they basicaly the same underneath but the Devil's in the details.
I'm still trying to see if there's a way that I can download it free from registering with SCEE. Therefore I won't actually be buying it until I'm reasonably sure that I can't get it for free. I'm really interested in Motorstorm and might go pick it up today. I've also heard a deal at Toys R Us where you buy 1 Sony PSP Game card and you get another at 50% off. Some people bought Motorstorm for $40 and were able to snag Gran Turismo for $20. I might go up to my local TRU and see if they have that deal. Then I'll have to see what games are available for that deal. I could very well break down and buy Gran Turismo. If I do I will definitely post my experience with the DS3 controller.
I'm enjoying my PSPgo :)
You bought a PSP 2000 and I just wanted to say that this was the best psp ever made...but anyway you just bought a psp 2000 and you bought about 20 games for it umd games and then you the psp go is out and now you buy it and now you have to go out and pay for games that you already own and download them on this high priced handheld and just to let you know if you add 50 dollars more you can get a PS3 so I guess having the money to burn is being stupid to get this handheld thats all Im saying......not hating trust me!!!!
The coupon code at delldotcom has expired.
youre hating. if someone has enough money to own TWO psps that doesn't reflect on the person's intelligence in anyway. it'd be stupid if they didn't have the money and bought another psp.
quit drinking that HATER-ADE
Buying the same games that you already own and buying them on the PSN website is just plain stupid and you know it!!!! Oh just bend me over and use no vaseline and take my money I just buy my games all over again yep.....I just drinking hater-aid....RIGHT!!! BUDDY!!!!!
youre such a loser dude. that still doesnt make them stupid. it makes them rich. if they can afford it than it's fine. why does it bother you so much how someone else spends their money?
fact of the matter is your just speculating that someone who has a pspgo will repurchase all their games. but what if they don't?
I think truk is trying to make fun of me OOooo
LOL so sad man..
