On the latest edition of his Monday Morning Quarterback feature, Newsweek's N'Gai Croal revealed that the New York-based NPD Group will no longer release monthly hardware sales data to their non-paying customers, i.e. the media.

Croal also revealed that software sales figures for only the top five SKUs will be released instead of the usual top ten. This practice will start with the sales data for October, which is due to come out later this month. The last data released by NPD was for sales in September.

Armchair analysts won't be left without any figures at all, though. Hardware and software sales data will still be released on a quarterly and annual basis, so this pullback may only be temporary. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft are still free to release their own hardware sales data, of course.

i dont like

this new layout for the site. Now everything seems so cluttered, with those thick blue title headers and everything... I also can't see the number of comments for an article before I click on it (i like to read articles which many ppl have commented on, so I can view their opinions on it). Those boxes in which all the articles are initially in (until u click "read more") are REALLY messy and annoying (now everytime I want some news I have to click the link, and then go back to the homepage when I am done!!) Basically, I think things were fine before, when they were SIMPLER and NEATER!! :) I'm done now...

New Layout

Me I am happy, the speed is so much superior to what I had in the past. I can now load an article a lot faster and if it does not interest me or the comments are uninteresting I just click the next. In the past I had to be selective as I am spoilt and hate waiting for a page to load. My load times previously were approx 35-40 seconds that has been greatly improved. Pages are now fully loaded in Approx 6 seconds. I am in China using a standard ADSL 1mbit all PC's connected to the ADSL via wireless network. Browser of Choice is Safari. IE havent used for more than five years. Firefox is my second choice. Both browsers are presenting the QJ pages much faster now. All I can say is well done.
