Video game store - Image 1For the fifth consecutive month, the US gaming industry experiences a downward slip, this time with a 29% year-over-year decline to US$ 848.9 million.

According to the released stats, hardware sales dropped by 37% to US$ 280.94 million. Pachter almost had it spot on, with a prediction of 36% year-on-year unit decline for the consoles. Meanwhile, software fell 26% to US$ 436.99 million and even accessories dropped 12% to US$ 130.97 million.

NPD analyst Anita Frazier weighed in on this data gathered:

In order for the industry to come in flat or slightly up for the total year, the back five months of the year have to come in 11 per cent (or more) higher than the last five months of last year.

While year-to-date results are weak, there are some big titles set to be released over the next several months, including Madden this month, which would help spur sales. The worst comps should be behind us, and looking beyond August we have The Beatles: Rock Band, Halo 3: ODST, and of course, Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2 to look forward to.

These games have a lot of pressure riding on their launches. Let's hope they do get a good run.

In the meantime, here are the results for both the hardware and software sales for the month of July:

Software:
  1. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Wii) - 508,200

  6. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo, DS) - 132,200
  7. Pokemon: Platinum Version (Nintendo, DS) - 116,400
  8. Fight Night Round 4 (EA, Xbox 360) - 116,400
  9. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo, DS) - 101,800
  10. EA Sports Active (EA, Wii) - 96,800

I wish "Infamous" had more sales and was able to show more even if it is single console... that was an amazing game. At first, I thought ahh this game is just something I'll get bored with... then it started keeping me up every night. If you havnt got this game yet, try it out... its an amazing game. (expressed opinion only)

haha my thoughst exactly

Every time I get on Infamous I don't want to get off it. One of the few games with good/bad paths which I'll actually replay for both Disheartening to see crap like Wii Fit, EA Sports Active and the latest Pokemon garbage top the charts instead of a gem like Infamous

since when is the game quality measured with sales? Move on to a better game then means you play Wii Fit, because based on your logic it's the best game out there at the moment? Really people, some of you should think before they write something....

software sales?

Wii sports resort is a controller add on with tech demo minigame disc (similar to Wii sports.) Wii fit is a bath scale with minigame disc. Wii play is a Wii mote with minigame disc. This is not software sales, this is CRAP sales. Nintendo just bundles CRAP minigame discs with accessories they know will sell. Why do their accessories sell? They're NEW. Yes that's all it takes. Mario Kart Wii is the top selling Nintendo GAME. You'd think it would be a newly released game, but with so few quality Wii games, owners are paying full price for 1-2 year old games! Can you imagine if Sony and Microsoft did the same crap Nintendo does? Say Microsoft bundled Natal with a tech demo (the only way to get it) then it was "the best game of the year." What happened to DSi sales? Are they so bad they aren't reported separately?

yeah I agree with Silver-Tiger. I wish Infamous had higher sales just based on the fact that the more money they make, the more likely we will see Infamous 2. Any platform game would be hard to top sales charts based on the fact that people with only one console have access to it. So of course multiplatform games are going to take more of the market. Wii fit is an exception because 1/3 of people in america alone are obese... so of course they are going to buy something they think they will loose weight on, otherwise diet pills that consist of mostly just caffiene wouldnt sell for as much as they do. btw, way to be a troll and try to knock down a good game based off sales figures (this statement is opinionated and generalized)

New record?

Youngest/dumbest poster ever?

by Master Chef - 2009-08-16 22:56:02
Hmmm

Judging by your grammar and level of intelligence I'm gonna guess you work aaattttt... Burger King. No no, Miccy D. amirite? lol Keep telling yourself Wii Fit is a good game haha. Your argument for it makes no sense either, people who have other things to do use Wii Fit for exercise? Couldn't you spend the same time you'd use playing Wii Fit exercising outside? You know, where the sun is?

by Csyrah - 2009-08-18 02:49:51
@lito2213

yeeeah ok... it's a good thing when people agree, it doesn't mean it has to be something sexual. Also, I wasn't intending on humor when I said 1/3 of people in the US are obese, its just what I've seen reported. But yeah it seems like you we're a little drunk when you posted that haha. But look, it logically doesn't make sense to say "some people are so busy, they need to use the Wii fit" (what I interpreted from your post). If people have time to use the Wii fit, then they have time to workout as well, or possibly take a run around the block. Also like I stated, my post was merely an opinion and a personally expressed view. It wasn't meant or intended to represent or reflect anyone else's views and/or thoughts. It was just my own view. I apologize if I had offended you.

lol he said I was on silver tigers nuts for agreeing with silver tiger, and then turns around and writes a post expressing the same agreement with silver tiger on his written opinion? I guess im kind of confused. I dont like to do name calling, even though the two previous posts were funny as sht... im still just going to assume you were a little bit drunk when writing these posts. We have all done dumb things while drunk... Its just we arent all usually online writing on QJ when we are drinking to that extent (my opinion, could be wrong)
