NPD Group releases latest numbers for the month of October - Image 1With the latest numbers from NPD finally in for the month of October, the console race is once again in full swing as it gets ready for its holiday storm of releases. Overall, last month was a very productive month for game publishers as revenues hit an astounding US$ 1.1 billion.

While Bungie Studios' Halo 3 is still topping the software sales charts, Harmonix's Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has grabbed four slots in the top ten list on its various console releases. Guitar Hero III sold a combined number of 1.4 million copies across the PC, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Wii.

On the console side, Nintendo is now in the lead as it has dominated hardware sales with the Wii and DS selling 519,000 units and 480,000 units respectively. The Xbox 360 takes third place with 366,000 units sold.

Unfortunately for Sony fans, the PlayStation 3 is lagging behind once again with only 121,000 units sold to its name. Anyway, here's the list of the top 10 software sales for the month of October:
  1. Halo 3 [all editions] (X360, Bungie, Microsoft) 434,000 units
  2. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (X360, Neversoft, Activision) 383,000 units
  3. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (Wii, Vicarious Visions, Activision) 286,000 units
  4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Bundle (PS2, Budcat, Activision) 271,000 units

» So...

Even though PS3 "doubled in sales" it still got tripled in sales by 360.....

» Indeed

Well, it's true when you combine the 360 and Wii sales over the PS3. They really beat the PS3.

» I still have no plan to buy a ps3

Even though I give in to xbox360 for their new holiday package and also becasue Ace Combat 6 is finally out...

I am not looking forward to MGS4 or KZ2 personally so almost everything else is on 360 as well.

» oh well jettic...

Even if that is the case, 360 still sold 100,000 more then the "doubled" PS3.....

» ps3 is better than the 360.

The 360 is over-rated. The 360 has does have a hell of alot more games but 90% of them suck. The only good 360 games are Bioshock, Halo 3, and gears of war. Yes Assasins creed looks better on 360 but the ps3 version has better framerate.

The 360 has been out alot longer than the PS3. No wonder it has more games.

Thats a hard one better lighting or framerate.

PS3 is alot also more powerfull, it is really hard to hit the PS3's limit. its full graphics capability can't be hit for another 3-4 because it is hard to make a game with that kind of graphics.

There has been rumors that MGS4 might come to the 360 but it wont. It is impossible to put MGS4 on the 360

it uses way more space than a HD DVD can store thats why blu ray is better. Same thing goes with Uncharted Drake's fortune and Heavenly Sword.

That you're a complete idiot and a fanboy. Seriously, we don't care which system is the best.

And your post fails, a lot.
