NPD Group releases June 2008 results |

The results for the NPD group's gaming market tally this June are in and as expected, it was a huge month for the Sony PlayStation 3 and its flagship title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.The game boosted console sales way above the platform's monthly average and put it solidly at second place in the console war.
The Nintendo DS and the Nintendo Wii are still leading all hardware products in the US with stellar figures. The DS finished the month with more purchases than expected while the Wii sold a bit less than predicted.
The Microsoft Xbox 60 sank to last place with its below-expectation performance even with the release of Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden 2. Check out the list below for complete rankings and figures.

Considering that MGS4 was the PS3s single most anticipated title this year, it is a SAD ASS month for the ps3 when it only outpaces the 360 by 185 thousand.
Spin the numbers however you want, but you bet your ass Sony was expecting better than that. That is a huge level of under performance.
I don't know about you, but here in Canada the MGS4 bundles had no trouble selling out. Unfortunately I waited too long so by the time I looked around, there were none to be found. If Sony had anticipated this, sales figures would be much higher.
I know you wish you knew WTF you were talkin for a company thats down 60 or so thou down from beating 360 everywere except US why would you use the word Only aside frome the fact that it has outsold 360 several months this year wit much less difference either way The Year of B3YOND is Near so dont "Jump in" just yet That #2 spot got "3" all over it in 08
Don't listen to the first comment . Dumbass doesn't know what he's saying . Anyways finally Sony got its things together. The xbox is going down the drain for sure . Especially in Japan since no good games come out for it .
what's sad? for several months now the 360 has nothing to call "home turf" as it is getting beat even in the US by a console which is more expensive that "has no games" and is "just copying the xbox live"...
the 360 has nothing... all it got going for it was a headstart and look around you buddy... a 360 dies every minute one gets played.

I agree. So does MS. The proof is in the pricing. If 360 was at least #2 average do you think all these prices drops would be happening? Hell NO!

Sony already said they were sending out more on the blog, but these particular sales don't even include the bundle so its already "much higher" if you want to include them.
I think he meant PS3 hardware sales would be higher had they made more MGS4 PS3's????

Just because one is a tad bit better in performance, graphics, etc... doesn't mean it's far superior than the other.
It's what the gamers do with it that makes ANY game/console memorable!

I personally own all these consoles so here is a REALISTIC opinion.
Most ppl buy Wii cos it's cheap as chips. games are EASY to play. AND it's features are good enough for newbs/parents/kids to awe upon.
X360 and PS3 is pretty much the same. One might have one game that the other doesn't. Graphics on PS3 is a lil better than x360 but X360 has ALOT more games that the PS3. Which is better? GET BOTH!
PSP has better games/graphics/gameplay than the NDS, but the NDS has ALOT more games. both are cheap and both pretty much even when it comes to 'fun' factor.
GOD, now just give it a rest...
