Datel Battery - Image 1Noobz, creators of the monumental Pandora Battery for the Sony PlayStation Portable, has posted a statement on their site refuting the marketing claims of Datel - a purveyor of what Noobz calls a "clone" of their invention.

Noobz says warns that the statement from Datel describing their product as a "Special TOOL version of our PSP battery works in exactly the same way as a standard SONY PSP battery but has the ability to put your PSP into service mode for custom firmware use," is a misleading one that may cause disappointment and problems to those who buy it.

"You might have thought that this means that you no longer need a homebrew PSP to be able to get started with Pandora," says Fanjita in the Noobz statement. "Unfortunately, you'd be wrong. And Datel don't seem to be in any hurry to put you right."

Noobz acknowledges that the Datel battery is useful to some degree "in that it allows you to skip the step of needing a homebrew PSP to modify an existing battery." However, they're reminding everyone that a homebrew PSP is still a requirement to create the files to place on the memory stick.

"Without the special memory stick, Pandora is useless," they continue. "And no-one is able to legally give you the files required to prepare that stick without a homebrew PSP."

To conclude the statement, Noobz says that when you buy the Datel Battery, you only get the red battery. There are no instructions and disclaimers that will tell you that you need a memory stick for its full use. They also invite everyone to read user feedback from people who bought Datel's wares. You can find the link to that along with the full Noobz statement in the read link.

I think Datel should be sued by Noobz or something. It's not copyrighted, but I think they could pull it off. Datel directly ripped them off and it's clear. There are a couple thousand and possibly more people who go to homebrew PSP sites and know that.

How many other people contacted Datel about stealing the Pandora Battery and giving no recognition or compensation?

there rven tell u u cant use a normal battery for it, even from them:

Please note: The TOOL functionality is hard-coded to put the PSP into service mode. The standard version cannot be changed to have this functionality so please choose the version you require when ordering.

It is not much what distinguishes a Pandora Battery from a normal one

to be more exactly its 4 bytes of 256 that make the big difference.

Its the serialcode.

The PSP checks the Serial of the Battery when inserted if its

FF FF FF FF it will boot into service mode. If it is

00 00 00 00 it will boot upon insertion. If it is anything else it is a normal Battery.

In a datel 'TOOL' Battery that serial is hardcoded and cant be changed.

As many of you know some batterys are incompatible. Its not possible to write the serial to its EEPROM. The reason is that

A: the EEPROM is defect in one of the places for the serial

B: the Manufactor choosed not to include a EEPROM to reduce production costs

C: The Manufactor chose to writeprotect that Area

Stored in that EEPROM are also informations about it's level of charge maximum capacity and some more informations.

yes, I went on dealextreme.com, and saw batteries selling for $7 a piece, and thought, Jackpot! and planned to buy a large set of batteries and memory sticks and sell them to friends, and also on ebay, like this guy, who downgraded mine:

http://stores.ebay.com/PSP-Unbricker

(tell him youarepwned sent you).

Anyhow, it turned out that just like Loonix said, the batteries were cheap because they had no eeprom. Luckily I did not buy any.

» DATEL BATTERY WORKS

you dont need a homebrew psp to make the stick information. you dont even need a psp. i used a sony digital camera and the pandoras box gui which you run on a pc. just follow all the instructions including turning it off and on again, but ignore the instructions for making the battery. this is the method i used for unbricking my psp as i dont have 2.

i wouldnt agree its a rip off as its a cheaper alternative to buying a second psp battery to turn in to a pandoras battery, and a convenient way to have one already made. the rip offs are the *****s on ebay either offering the service to make them or selling them for rediculously high prices.

the datel tool battery is ideal if:

a - you dont have 2 psps

b - bricked your psp before making a battery
