Nintendo tops 2007 Japanese fiscal year |
Ó
It's official once more: Nintendo's money-printing machines, the Wii and the DS, are still making a killing, enough so that the oldest company in the game has yet again nabbed the top spot in 2007's fiscal year in Japan. And if that's not enough, we see in this update from Famitsu that Nintendo has won in both the software and hardware sides of the war, gaining respectable margins over all its competitors. And we do use the term 'respectable' quite loosely.
So, what are the numbers, then? Let's see. On the hardware side, the best-selling platform is once again the Nintendo DS, selling over 6.3 million units. The Nintendo Wii followed closely behind with 3.74 million units sold. Making a huge showing, however, is the not-so-far-behind Sony PlayStation Portable, netting 3.4 million units snapped up. The Sony PlayStation 3 coasted through with a comfortable 1.1 million units, while the Microsoft Xbox 360 once again ended the fiscal year with a so-so 235, 318 units.
As for the software division, it's all Nintendo, from the top spot to the fifth ranking. The flab-busting, balance-measuring Wii Fit scored 1.7 million copies, with Mario Party DS at its heels with 1.6 million units. Wii Sports, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon rounded up the remaining spots.
Well, that's it for this Japan 2007 fiscal year update. It's certainly clear that Nintendo is pushing all the right buttons so far. Here's hoping they take their ongoing success and make sure that they also hit it right with their fans next fiscal year.
Here's the complete set of figures from Famitsu, for the Japanese fiscal year of 2007 that ended just this March 30:
Hardware sales ranking:
- Nintendo DS: 6,343,547
- Nintendo Wii: 3,741,946

Awesome news!!!
1. I'm glad the PS3 has picked up steam.
2. For the sake of rubbing it in Mr. Nonsenses face, I'm glad the Wii has continued to kick a$$!!!
3. For the sake of rubbing it in Mr. Nonsenses face, I'm glad the 360 (out of them all) is on the bottom.
Total units sold TO DATE: We have the Wii on top with the 360 in second place and the PS3 in last place.
Now keep in mind how long the 360 has been out versus the Wii.......that's pretty sad for the 360!
The Wii beyond any shadow of any doubt is clearly the most popoular system.
What's even more interesting is that the 360 and PS3 share the same exact buying pattern:
