New PlayStation logo registered by Sony |

German gaming website Area Games managed to discover a new PlayStation logo that was recently registered by Sony. The icon sports the symbols of the four control buttons, the square, triangle, circle and the X buttons over a circle. The question is, what will this logo/icon be used for?It is still unknown where the logo will be applied on. Chances are that it's not going to be used in a game or game software franchise since the symbols used belong to the Sony PlayStation hardware; the controller, to be exact. So will this be used on the new DualShock 3, then? Just our speculation.
Well, it could be for a million other things, and we're going to find out later. So until then stay tuned for more updates!

It's a shame to see a decent company going down the pan like Sony is atm.

Anyway, I personally like it for what it represents; a break away from the clean, crisp, clean-cut fashion that has taken over the world. It just looks fun to me, which is what the PS franchise is all about... to me anyway.
I agree that solid black is a bit over whelming and in-your-face, but I start logos off as a single colour, so I can concentrate on shapes and patterns, etc. Also understand that colour cannot be registered as a copyright as its... well... colour (this may differ from country to country though). All the registrar is concerned with is the 'image' (shape). Sony clearly has no problem with using whatever colour any given situation requires to logo to be, hence the black registration.
I do have one negative comment though; I personal think the Triangle should be slightly rotated counter-clockwise to move it away from the Square, which would also fill the gap nicely at the top of the X and Circle. Also, that extremely thin line between the Triangle and the Square will cause problems when printing at small sizes - it will just break up.
Anyway, like I said, that's all personal to me.

Again, we don't know what this is for. It looks like a logo for the Playstation trademark "SYMBOLS", not "PLAYSTATION" itself, which would normally make sense if the logo had the letters "PS" on it. So don't start worrying. It may just be a logo for the dualshock 3 controller, which wouldn't be bad. :)

That's exactly my point, as I clearly stated! It's moving away from what the fashion currently is! I know it's out there on its own (at the moment). Trust me, I know what I'm talking about, I've been involved in corporate ID of household names, thank you very much. Clean and simple has been 'the trend' before the PS2 was launched - I know, I've had to work with the style long enough.
You're clearly looking at it in its literal form. Take a step back, the 'PS' icon and the 'PlayStation 3' are all very nice and sleek, and THEY represent the seriousness that is the PS3 hardware. That aside, what does the PS3 "represent"? It's fun and exiting to play and be a part of. If I wanted no frills, serious gameplay, that has no fun in the form of action, then I'd buy an electronic chess game.
Anyway, as far as everyone here is concerned, this could be aimed at children in the Home environment, hence the 'Nickelodeon' style (which you spelt wrong, numb-nut). Let's just wait to see how Sony uses it first!!!
I mean, how many people here slagging off this design loves the Loco Roco style and wackiness? Again, this is a welcome change from all the beautifully rendered, advance lighting games we're all used to playing at the moment.
If you're going to spark a debate with me, at least read my post properly and use some intelligence in your argument.
I'm a professional in my field, and I like it... so there lol!

BUT... my first post was to give my opinion to ALL the posters here, who took time to post comments themselves, as I presume we're all here for the same reason. You are, in fact, the one who engaged me (a complete stranger) in a debate over YOUR personal opinion on both my opinion and the logo itself - the latter being fine with me!!! And since you've certainly embraced me by putting me in my place, I won't comment on your use of the word 'verbal'... even though we're typing... couldn't resist!
Look, I'm just passionate about my work... and my PS3, along with all the lovely logos Sony comes up with, for that matter.
Well, this has been an interesting debate noshoes84, and the irony is, I don't like the logo anymore. All this has put me off it lol! God, if they actually use this, you will always pop into my head... damn!
Peace!

I don't get it. Verbal just means that words are used. We're all using words here...what's the problem? It's not like he said "vocal".
