New options for the PSP Slim

PSP Slim - Image 1The guys at Kotaku just received their PSP Slim (or PSP-2000 for those who want to get more technical), and they have noticed some new options available for the latest version of Sony's PlayStation Portable.

Under the system menu, there are two new USB-related options available, namely the UMD Cache and USB Charge. UMD Cache lets users minimize UMD reading; most probably this option minimizes loading times as well (we hope!). As for USB Charge, the name says it all - you can now charge your unit with a USB cable.

Since the PSP Slim can be connected to television screens, additional options are now available so users can tinker with the display settings. The Switch Video Output lets users toggle between using the television or the PSP screen, while the TV Type option lets users switch between 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios.

The Component/D-Terminal Cable setting lets users choose between progressive and interlaced display output. Finally, there is a Screensaver option which enables users to set the timeout of the screensaver from 0 to 15 minutes.

This update is just one among many, and you can count on us to give you more news as they come. Stay tuned!

hopefully m33 can rip the screensaver from the new firmware and make it compatible with oldschool psp. it sounds interesting.

» fffffffff

I can already charge my PSP with the USB cord I got.

by meh - 2007-08-29 08:43

I think they meant through the usb port, not the extra side-cable that you plug into the charging plug

» Pandora

Screw all that..

Does Pandora work ????!! Thats the first damn thing you should have reported.

by seargent007 - 2007-08-29 08:57
» yea but....

if they reported that shipment number 2 would be pandora-free, i'd rather that people shut up and find out on their own so we can all get hackable versions.

» UMD cache?

what does the UMD cache have to do with the USB?

» GENIUS!!!!!

Wow. Hopefully someone will rip that screensaver thing for the old one. Cuz im not getting a new PSP until thy me a REAL NEW ONE

» Pandora's should work!

The video shows that the normal battery does fit in the PSP Slim and was powered on!

by -SC-Lakitu - 2007-08-29 09:06
» They shouldn't.

If they reported, and it worked, it would increase the chance that Sony would patch the Pandora's Battery.

to the idiots wondering about the screensaver...

it is to protect your tv screen from getting burn-in while the psp is connected.

fools.

by -SC-Lakitu - 2007-08-29 09:37
» Oh, and saf100792...

The guys at Kotaku, the guys who found these hardware changes out about the PSP Slim, found out with a PSP Slim Sony sent them.

LCD screens dont suffer from burn-in

by Smokin - 2007-08-29 10:02
» LCD

Yes LCD's Do not get Burn in. So having a screen saver on a psp in my idea is just sony trying to take up space inside the flash. Its POINTLESS to have a scree nsaver on a psp.

» Big question: and Pandora works???

I already knew all that... all these "new features" are old news... big news is to answer "does pandora work?" or at least "do all the leds turn on when the battery is inserted?". If the battery does not work, but the leds turn on Dark_Alex said that there is a big chance that it work then.

» Pfft

You certainly don't know about televisions. Yeah, it's true Plasma screen TV's burn faster when the pixels are projecting the same image but LCD television does burn out (just leave a comp connected for like 12 hours or more and when you watch television normally on it you'll see the pixels worn out a lot.

by Foamy Wrath - 2007-08-29 12:08
» Pandora

Pandora doesn't fully work.

When tested, it made the LED flicker, but didn't actually boot fully to service mode.

Still, it means that it's doing something and surely with a bit of tinkering we'll all have Custom PSP Slim firmwares!

(Can't remember where I read it, sorry. Otherwise, I would have provided a link).

» lcd burn-in

actually, on my psp, with the music visualization with the black screen and the color trail that goes into bright white dots on the screen, it screwed up my screen. there's dots all over my screen now. i can't really see them most of the time, but like when i press the home button while i'm playing a game, the grey yes/no screen, it's super ugly.

lol, yea it is it charges through USB port not the power port with USB end...but same idea though, except there is a option to turn it on or off in the settings, and i did a tad of soldering so mine charges with the USB port

the ppl who write the stories here, get things messed up all the time..i doubt its in the USB option. Also these news were really old news, but i guess its cool for some ppl that didn't know it yet

» tv out

but is the tv out merely a firmware thing? with cables that will fit the body shape of the old psp and the right custom firmware can we get the tv out working?

frankly, if we can do that, i'm gonna wait until my old psp breaks before buying a new one.

by firmware - 2007-08-29 21:18
» misthero

I'd like to know if the firmware and next firmwares updates will be the same for both fat and slim psp.

by VSG - 2007-08-30 00:55
» maybe

you have read it in wikipedia.

ive seen it there, they say pandora jigkick works with slim psp.

but since its too early and sony knows about this now for sure, there is a chance that the next batch of psp slim in production maybe patched.

the first batch of psp slims is too late to patch so early psp slim buyers maybe buying something rare/brew capable like in a few months until proper crack is made to counterattack the patch that sony will make to prohibit pandora.

also there is a problem if you downgrade your first batch psp slim, there will still be no available custom firmware to install that is specific for psp slim use, therefore will be forced use old psp-100x firmware which doesnt have psp slim functions such as TV output and lots more.

anyways if the new psp slim custom firmware comes out, i'll be rushing out to buy psp slim because its darn hard to play brave story on the heavy and small screen psp-100x. my 19" hdtv is eagerly awaiting hacked psp slim or AAA ps3 games, whichever comes first!

well i heard mother f..ucker has like 30 god damn di..cks. if you take the cover off you can see them growing out of the battery

by ME - 2007-08-30 02:23
» WTF

high def is in reference to resolution

not screen size

19" maybe small but it still may be HD capable

PC monitors for years have been displaying HD on as little as 15"

» custom firmware

I hope they'll make a custom firmware fir this new psp slim.

by tawraste - 2007-08-30 06:43
» tv out

the tv out means a lot to me as i don't have a ps3, and i travel a lot. it would make my psp a really good media option whenever i found myself near a tv.

and no, i do not want a ps3, cos all my cash has been sunk into other costly projects at the moment. bearing this cash situation in mind, i would obviously be over the moon if all i had to do is change my firmware again and buy a cable.
