NEW GPS-compatible title: MAPLUS Guidemap - Image 1Pardon us if our count isn't accurate but if we're not mistaken, the total number of PlayStation Portable (PSP) titles that are compatible with the handheld's GPS accessory is currently at six. They are Minna No Golf Jo, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, MAPLUS Portable Navi, Minna no Chizu, Minna no Chizu 2, and Homestar Portable.

In case you haven't noticed yet, we can't keep track of these video games because they were only released in Japan. We wonder what's up with that move from Sony but that discussion is reserved for another day. We brought up the topic because another one software has just been added to the list: MAPLUS Guidemap.

While that is still a tentative title, it is clear that MAPLUS Guidemap is a GPS-navigation compatible software. From what we've understood from MAPLUS' official Japanese site, this will include pedestrian navigation features, location information in the form of a guidebook, and downloadable map updates.

Speaking of which, we have a strong reason to believe that this software is of top-notch quality as its maps have been provided by Japan's leading map software provider Alps. MAPLUS Guidemap is being developed by Edia Co. Ltd. and will be available in Japan this summer.

» WTF!!

I don't get sony. Why are they working on Japan PSP more than the US. They get the Camera first and now GPS now. Sigh... I am waiting for the Camera mainly that is what I really want. But why is it taking Sony so long to make it for the US PSP. Its really upsetting in my thoughts. I hope it comes out this year I really do. Hopefully this summer. *sigh*...

» Good news I suppose

I've been taking Japanese this year so I suppose by the time I travel over there I will understand enough that I could make use of this sort of software. Too bad it probably wouldn't make much difference to my travels since I'm happy wandering

by n00b - 2007-04-19 07:21
» yeah...

yeah, I don't know why it's taking so long either - but it is a Japanese company so what do you expect?

Does anyone know where I can download a GPS MAPTHIS! Pack that includes US California, LA, or more maps?

by Rikki-Tikki-Tavi - 2007-04-19 10:27
» Sorry, you are not correct.

Minna no Chizu 1 is not GPS enabled. It's just a map. I brought it and I speak Japanese at least well enough to understand the menus.

It is a very good map anyways...

» well

LiquidBlood, what you are displaying is classic egocentrism. You can still get the GPS and the Camera, just like the Japanese, you just have to have it shipped from Asia like everyone else! They are focused on testing the PSP in Asia countrie, Korea, Japan, because that is close geographically and they prob.. arent *****s about beta testing (which is ultimately whats happeing) like Americans

by xche78x - 2007-04-19 22:11
» wow

maplus is include with every purchase of the GPS devide. as of now its japan only, the maplus software will not work on other country besides japan because maps in the disc is japan only. itll probably take a lot of time to fully localize a MAPLUS version for any other country inlucing the US which is a very big country. car navigator is pretty much better than this, take note. and its out since last year, QJ is few months late see.

by xche78x - 2007-04-19 22:39
» yeah do that

just import the chotto shoto with camera like i did, i didnt even open the chotto shoto UMD because i dont read japanese and i have my pc for great pic and video editing. the maplus gps add on can be used on games that supports it but maps of non-japanese places will not show practically.
