More physics-defying tomfoolery coming at you with this Object Locative Environment System video of Echochrome, the latest IP from Sony that has that signature Japanese quirkiness that's heading to both the PS3 and PSP. No, we don't get it either, but it does sound like something from Metal Gear Solid, so we're going with it.

The video's simple and plays in black and white, very minimalist. What we notice right away is that the game plays around with angles - specifically, what angle you're viewing a certain series of blocks and platforms that you yourself will be creating. In a rather tongue-in-cheek manner, we're shown the many "Subjectives" in the game - which pretty much says that in Echochrome, how you look at things will affect the sort of world you'll be making. For instance, Subjective Non-Existence - if you're viewing a platform in such a way that the gap or hole on it is blocked from your line of sight, it doesn't exist, and the little drones can walk across said gap or hole easily and without fail.

It's a bit confusing, but it's better if you watched the video. The embed's below, you know what to do. Enjoy!

» it all makes sense now

i thought escher was just on a trip with those drawings but i guess there was actually some real psychological meat behind it

anyways, lol @ the instant replays

this game looks unique enough to at least try out

» duh

of course there's psychological meat behind it. the ability to visualize and rotate 3-dimensional planes in the mind? duh.

and escher was more a mechanical wonder than a psychological artist.

» It just goes to show

Sony is not only ahead in the technological side but also in the creative side. Titles like this are unique and fun to play This and Little Big Planet are going to do very well in my opinion. Keep up the good work Sony and developers.

You KNOW what to do.

This game looks like it will be very frustrating.

» What about europeans?

Can european players get this game somehow?

Or what about US players?

» Fairly Crush-like

But the art style should help to distinguish it quite a bit; looks fun to me

» I Like It

A moment of genius in an otherwise lengthy and dreary Sony Press Conference.
