Manhunt 2 - Image 1With Manhunt 2 (PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii) already on shelves in North America, it looks like more and more organizations are condemning the game as well as Rockstar Games itself. The latest group to voice their opposition of Manhunt 2 is the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

NAMI is currently calling for Rockstar Games to either recall or further modify Manhunt 2. The group has also called on retailers to refrain from selling the game. NAMI claims that the game is an "irresponsible, stereotyped portrayal of mental illness."

Gamers will recall that the playable characters in the game, Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper, are escapees from the Dixmor Institute for the Criminally Insane. The statement from NAMI further said that the game "unfortunately perpetuates and reinforces cruel, inaccurate perceptions that people who live with mental illnesses are violent."

"unfortunately perpetuates and reinforces cruel, inaccurate perceptions that people who live with mental illnesses are violent."

If they want to ban this game because it created a fictional world that contains violent mental patients, they are crazy. If this is the case, then maybe they should try and ban one of my favorite movies "Silence of the Lambs". If you guys remember, Dr. Lecter is placed in a mental holding facility that contains several violent patients with extreme mental illnesses (Not to mention Lector himself). One of the patients even ejaculates on Agent Starling (If you played Manhunt, in the first chapter a mental patient hurls fecal matter at you). It is obvious to see where the inspiration came from.

My point being is that these groups give and take what they feel like. And honestly, either we have it all or none at all. It is highly unlikely that a "recall" could ever happen. It almost seems like they just want to be "heard" rather than actually change the course of the Manhunt history. It is really disappointing that these types of groups that are supposed to help people, actually have double standards regarding material and information they claim to be banning.

I mean come on people, it's just a game. If we had to ban games because of stereotypes, I doubt that any games would be left on the shelves. I mean we would have to get rid of Donkey Kong (Stereotypes Apes as aggresive) and even Super Mario (Because it portrays Italians as short, fat people with funny accents).

I couldnt resist buying this game only because Jack Thompsons says not too....I'll be 30 in January and I was asked for ID to buy it.

When they release it for PC I'm buying it too. Movies can show someone sawing off their own leg...Why can't games do whatever they want.

» This is insane

And to think, if this were a book, it would could regarded as a great piece of literature, but since the people actually see what's happening, they condemn it and say it went to far. Seriously people, THIS IS FICTION, IN A FICTIONAL WORLD! Is there alot of sinister and just plain wrong things that happen in it? Yes. Is it hurting anyone in real life? HELL NO! Deal with it people.

» yep

To be perfectly honest, the only reason why I bought this game was because everybody was so quick to ban it. Seriously, sometimes there is no such thing as "bad" publicity.

These b**ches don't give up do they? I'm playing Manhunt 2, it's not that violent for all the fuss it's causing. I've seen worse.

» wow and they said the game was stereotypical lol

» South Park

This is kinda like South Park. Everyone knows almost all of the things they stereotype and make fun of in the show are really not bad. You just gotta RELAX, and be cool with mindless stereotyping, because it's obviously just for a game.

OMG...just STFU already. Stop trying to *****ing uncensor *****, nobody gives a ***** what the ***** you're case is. Nobody is going to think of mentally ill people in worser ways anyhow, most people think they're weird anyhow (well...they are). It's the truth and no matter how you put it, people still secretly despise or are even disgusted by people with mental illnesses. Only in America and countries where people have more to think about than living are these issues brought up in the first place. These committees need to just go mind their own god damn business, freedom of speech is one of the things every game developer can have, censoring it any further would be unconstitutiona l in the eyes of many. So please...soccer moms and bored committees of whatever the hell you are, shutup and mind your own god damn business. Period. I'm so sick of all these groups wanting publicity and saying Manhunt 2 is going to kill our society. Well...why not go after those rappers who say they shot people (I don't want that to happen actually...), porno? those violent movies? But no...it has to be video games, it has to be by Rockstar, and it has to be Manhunt 2. Jack Thompson started all this crap, we might as well hang his ass on a platter and blame him. I can't believe the American public believes the bull***** these attention whores spray them with. Ignorance at its best...
