MyQJ: Stop ripping off the scene PS2NFO! |
But it gets different when some sites start to rip-off other people's great work and modifying it for their own glory. A few hours ago, I got a humble request from Mathieulh, Dark_Alex and harleyg. It was about the fact that a certain site, PS2NFO, was editing the readme files of homebrew releases to remove their names from the credits section. It seems that they even went to the lengths of hex-editing the applications to remove the names of Fanjita, Skylark, psp250 and Mathieulh, all of whom have been hugely responsible to get the PSP homebrew scene where it is today.
That's still not all. We also noticed the fact that the PS2NFO admin started impersonating Dark_Alex in their forums to get more glory. Mathieulh, Dark_Alex and harleyg wanted us to put this statement up on our site. Here's the official statement:
"Dark_AleX never goes to PS2NFO and never will. PS2NFO go as low as impersonating developers to make themselves seem exclusive. They lie to everyone and steal credits. They impersonated Dark_AleX several times despite our warning on Maxconsole. When people post that Dark_AleX is a fake on their forums, they just delete the post and continue to make it look like he is the real one.
Because we fear for the sake of the entire scene due to such behaviour, we have no choice but to warn as many people as possible. They also remove credits from the people they banned such as Mathieulh. When the libtiff helloworld was released, they hex edited the tiff to remove all credits apart from NOPx86. Fanjita, Skylark and psp250's name was removed. We hope they won't repeat such lame acts again and they will leave the PSP scene alone"
Now in case they think of editing their posts after seeing this, we have proof of them doing these malicious acts:
Now while this might be surprising to most of you people, we were not surprised. In fact, Fanjita had this to say in one of his posts in our forums:
"Bleh, standard practise from that site. Low pirate scum, the lot of 'em."
Here's what PS2NFO had to say after news spread that they were impersonating Dark_Alex:
"After it ran it's course for a day, we received unconfirmed reports that it wasn't the real Dark_AleX who actually posted the thread. As a result, we posted the IPs logged from the account and an offer to Contact Us for the real Dark_AleX to (re)claim his account here. Until he chooses to, we have now seized the account and I will personally use it in his absence on our boards. Not much more we can do at this"
Now while I cannot give an official statement regarding this, you guys should realise how we at QJ feel about PS2NFO. Our advice to everyone here: Stop going to that site and make sure to get untampered homebrew from any of the rest of the sites, especially from http://dl.qj.net. And make sure to spread the message to your friends!

Oh, it was bound to happen sometime. PS2nfo has always been a lot of scum. I'm just glad that the good guys like Dark_AleX and Fanjita can rise above it and still put out amazing stuff! It doesn't seem to bother them, don't let it bother you guys! Your always gonna find scum. Even some developers are dupe's. From what I've heard Yoshihiro isn't all that good at making legal programs...I could be wrong though. Either way...thank you, real Dark_AleX and co., and damnation to you PS2NFO. Doesn't matter how goo the site is, if they're doing this, they have no right to be able to own a site.
Whether ps2nfo is useful or not doesn't have anything to do with the fact that they impersonate programmers and take credit (IE STEAL) for things (like the iso loader compatibility list) that they have no right to. I hate it when they say "so and so has shared this with us" - no one shares anything with them because they are jerks! They just download it from other sites like everyone else and then edit the readmes as they see fit. That's just plain wrong.
Also, did they have to post (supposedly) Dark Alex's IP address? Of course not. They posted it so that someone would launch an attack at that address. Everyone knows you don't post anyone's IP.
The stupid thing is, they don't have to do these things. All they have to do is give credit to the right people. Is that so much to ask?
PS2NFO or PS2OWNZ is doing this since they exist, they were doing it for ps2 homebrew too, that's not a news.

The sad thing is that this news item will probably send just as many new users over there as it deters.
Personally, I found the site a while back, thought it was annoying, and never went back, because as mentioned it's easy to get anything they "offer" from other places.
PS2NFO just "rebrands" everything they can come over. They've always done that... just like #22 says.
Just see what PS2NFO has done with HDLoader (or HDAdvance as they call their hacked version). They just copy everything and releases it as their own software.
Ive been using both sites for a while now, and just realised what had occured, i may stay away from ps2nfo, but like said before, its easy to get things elsewhere, dark alex rules, and so does qj.net!!!!
PS2NFO have done alot for the torrent scene but when it comes to homebrew, I have viewed their forums, and none of them know anything. Infact, they are all total n00bs. All they know is how to run ISO's and how to take credit for other people's stuff. I remember a while back, there was a big commotion about PS2NFO rebranding a .prx fix or something and they got into a total war with this other torrent group. I watched it from start to finish and PS2NFO had nothing but n00bness coming out of their arse. Lets go over there and flame the lot of them.

ive hated ps2nfo ever since i got banned from there. everything this article states is true. i remember they wouldnt let me talk about fanjitas eloader and it was really pissing me off. i was just trying to share new info with the psp community, but it's like they have some secret agenda like getting traffic and making money. i think that's all they care about. and the owner is an idiot. he never knows what he's talking about.
I used to think PS2nfo was tight. But then like they started doing all these things like randomly banning people for bringing up new things that they themselves hadn't discovered. It wasn't that long ago that PSPupdates faced similar criticism from other community PSP sites.
Rebadged or not they're not cowards and offer up the Software complete, none of this missing files due to legal reasons.

And unlike your site they've never lost focus. They primarly only post homebrew/loader news, where as you guys all over the place w/ stupid previews/reviews/TGS coverage I already get from sites like IGN and Gamesradar.
did you not read my posting #33, I said I've never recieved credit for anything i've contributed, others claimed it was theirs. but oh well, like I said, I know it was mine and thats all that matters. The internet is a very dangerous thing; you take the chance of other taking your credit when you upload ANYTHING to the internet. And who cares if the name Dark_Alex is on it or Your_mama, you don't know who this person actually is that creates something, you have never seen them, they don't give a real name so the credit is anonomous either way. Like I said before, the creator knows what hes contributed and thats all that should matter to him, especially when hes willing to put this stuff on the net.
I once posted some breaking news on PS2NFO, and the owner/admin banned my account and reposted the news a few mins after. What an *****....

I saw that site once when I was looking for a good PSP forum . It seemed like they were more interested in the illegal side of the PSP (ISO's and such) and not so much for the homebrew side. Also, it seemed like a lot of the info they had was the same info from PSPUpdates, only a day or two later and modified somewhat. I didn't like them and have never returned.
If you don't let this site then get the ***** out of this place, fools. No one appreciates the likes of you to come here and support a site that impersonates and takes credits from others. PS2NFO, if you need a *****ing identity, do it yourself instead of stealing. PS2NFO is just a bunch of thugs. They know no ***** except messing around the wordpad files. Despite this fact PS2NFO is still my favorite site. I like pspupdates for the homebrew and ps2nfo for the hacks. All those who got kicked off are obviously morons that didnt read the rules first. This saddens me. PS2nfo has a lot of files and info, and even though they have managed to make it harder to get them and they have added tons of publicity, they are a useful resource. :/ I hope they fix this mistake at least.

I have used your devhook launcher and find it very useful with my PSP. but I faced one problem whenever I emulate to fw 2.71 to play iso games, i could not return back to fw 1.50 emulation. i also cant launch devhook 0.45 when i am in fw 2.71. is there a way that you can create a program that i can resume back to fw 1.50 emulation instead of the original fw 2.71?

I was banned from as a registered user from there just because i mentioned a developers name when i posted some news i thought were importand. i 've made the post, his name appeared like ****** so i thought they must dislike him so i posted an apology right after but i commented that i 'll leave my first post there because i considered that people should get informed. After 5 minutes i was BANNED, no warning, no explanation. I send a mail to their webmasters asking for the reason and i never got an answer. I personaly think that PS2NFO is maintained from a bunch of angry kids.I'll never loose my time with them again.

I read the front page of PS2NFO regularly and they ALWAYS credit the source, I know for a fact they do. I can see homebrew posted on here and visit there main page and see the same homebrew with the same name under it. All credits are given.

They sued a Friend of mine (Brakken) who was the author of ps2banz who displayed the true nature of the ps2nfo (ps2ownz at the time) website and admins, they harrassed him by phone, mail, everything.
They still made lies and still credits all the time since the gamecube scene and almost succeeded in getting it rotten.
Hopefully thanks to some reliable gamecube scene users (inclueding brakken) they lost their viperGC exclusive and no one from the gamecube scene wanted to have anything to do with them. Then they renamed themselves from ps2ownz to ps2nfo to try to get rid of their lame reputation.
So they suddently closed their viperGC official forum and they started to ban everyone talking about it or anything related to the gamecube scene.
I can't forgive ps2nfo/ps2ownz for what they did. And never will.

Well, that's not a question, it's a fact.
well I'm pretty new to the psp scene but not to the ps2 scene, where ps2nfo is known for that kind of behaviour. they stole every update of the hdloader since almost the beginning (2 years ago? maybe a bit less); to speak with the real devs, head to ps2-scene/ps2newz forums.
that said, I went a couple of times on ps2nfo because as already said, they host some not so legal/hard to find files. I just don't listen to what they say :).
@#89 (this site is a joke): when you add google ads to your site, you don't choose the content, it is based on keywords present in the page.
On the PS2nfo front page are links to the 'official' thread of Dark_Alex's threads on their forums.
They clearly know that this isn't the real Dark_Alex and HAVE removed names from the 'post' that are names that have been banned from their site. Some random person who decided to do this for a 'laugh' (as they claim) would not have bothered, as they would not know who had been banned.
Threfore: It is PS2Nfo mods who have done this and people who claim that Ps2Nfo removing credits is acceptable, is making up lies acceptable too?
Those who support them: look at the facts, realise you have been duped, feel embarrassed, get over it and move on. You'll feel better for it.
Get the adblocker extension for Firefox and block all the banner ads on ps2nfo. That way, they don't make any money ;)

For one, at least they gave Dark_AleX credit, those compatibility lists they stole, they actually claim it as their own...
pspupdates is the best site for the psp and ps2nfo is just getting lame. especially after what they have just done to get all credit when they havent dont a thing for psp homebrew.

They did it to my app PSPhost during the early days as well - they wouldnt host the setup cos it linked to other sites they are really stupid i hate them
they banned me cos i asked them to host only my original files - they actually physically edited the ultimate ripkit by me and skirocket - i wont use there site although i want to see there reaction to this lol

i warned people in that "the first Dark_AleX thread in ps2nfo" that person who use Dark_Alex's name isn't the real one, then the admin deleted my post and also my account. and after they did this they posted something like "we've recieved the word that your're not the real Dark_AleX“ and I was like why the hell you disable my account for!" and after awhile of course no Dark_AleX will reclaim, they just "seized the account and personally use it in Dark_AleX's absence on their boards. it's a total lame. and now they joke on themseives by keep saying that is an official thread...and they are changing every other people's release....when i first got on their site i was like wow they have every well-known developers in there....now PS2NFO JUST A PIECE OF *****.

Next up, Dark_AleX has two new releases for us today! Before we dive into them, I would like to direct everyone's attention to THIS thread started by Dark_AleX. After it ran it's course for a day, we received unconfirmed reports that it wasn't the real Dark_AleX (confusing, eh?) who actually posted the thread. As a result, we posted the IPs logged from the account and an offer to Contact Us for the real Dark_AleX to (re)claim his account here. Until he chooses to, we have now seized the account and I will personally use it in his absence on our boards. Not much more we can do at this point, and quite honestly we've spent far too much time on this issue already. If the real Dark_AleX opts to continue to publish childish remarks against PS2NFO instead, then we'll just ignore them and everyone here will know what a lamerada he actually is. We're hoping he's more mature than that though...

Yep, so I was a member of PS2NFO for a while, visited their site daily, blogged a bit on my PS2NFO journal. Then I asked if it was true if they were editing the credits and I got banned within minutes.
F-U-C-K PS2NFO. ***** them for ripping the scene. PS2NFO himself must have no life.

Ps2Nfo stole brakkens Gamecube guide, Brakken sodding stole it from elsewhere, he's just as bad. they didnt just sue him out of nowhere as you claim in your post it was for other reasons that you miss out, and no doubt Brakken keeps close to his chest aswell.
So many people talk like they know the score and dont give full stories. Homebrew scenes are sh1te in general, the only one that did well was xbox, less little kids creating scene drama, less little kids taking existing programs and adding a new graphic, or a line of code or two and taking credit for the 'new revised' version. Anything to make them think there 'coders'. Laughable.
Its a good maketing tactic posting scene drama to get hits in the comments section and on the site for ad revenue, and it works, check the amount of comments in this post, then look at the misplaced PS2 news about vice city posted on the front page for hits. Notice a trend? Drama gets hits, hits make money. No wonder Digg banned you, your trying to push hits up to earn money constantly, either with scene drama or desperate attempts to get people to further post your blog, on other blogs.
You dont mention yoru editing of readmes when people say bad stuff about you in the included notes do you? That sh1ts fine and all your blind users postign in here convieniently forget about you doign anything of the kind. Like this site wasnt part of the PSP media program either? Yeah righto. What sort of obligation do you think you have to not make an official statement? I'm not entirely clear on your reasoning. It'll cause "infighting"? Well, maybe it should. Maybe that's what's needed. C'mon, make some waves. There is no need to actually label them as "evil", just let the evidence speak for itself and put it out there, that's enough of a statement. Holding just short of outright saying exactly what the evidence makes clear is a little silly and so is making a point of it. Just be frank about it. "The evidence clearly points out that these alligations are true." There. Let them rant and moan after that, but your job isn't to be "fair and balanced" because sometimes there's only one side to an issue.

If you read the main article you'll see Mathieulh is one of the people angry with P$2NFO. If you also read his post you'll see he mentioned me in a more positive light. I hope this and the fact I know the owner of PSPUPDATES counts for something.

I indeed told people how to contact the owner of P$2NFO. I did this in response to them (1) harassing me via phone, email (2) them trying to sue me for my anti-ps2nfo page which exposed what they are (3) they spread my personal contact information on various sexual related websites/forums.
I never got involved in PS2-SCENE's and PS2HD's little tag team wrestling match. I was decieved by one of the owners of PS2-SCENE and then was stuck in the middle of it. The only beef I have is with the fact I was lied to. That's all.
The rest of the claims are pure nonsense and sound like a 12 year old who just downloaded his first "i can hax0r you" virii latent application.
At any rate - P$2NFO operates like this all of the time. They are known around the world for stealing peoples applications, patches, games, etc ...
The best thing to do is not to visit the site (hence they will get less cashflow) and let your friends know what the deal is.

Why would that count for anything? It doesnt matter who you know, its what you do with the things available to you mate. You can name drop all you want but it proves NOTHING to me accept you think knowing people makes you somebody. I know a LOT of people in the scene, what good does it do pointing out who? Pointless, pure and simple. Actions speak louder than words brakken and you mad a lot of loud words without many actions.
To adress your post, firstly, Im not 12, im in my 30's mate so dont make comments you cant back up. judging by the numerous typos in your post you'd think you were the 12 year old.
If I gave you my name you wouldnt know it. I dont post under it, I certainly dont release programs under it, and I dont call out irritating 'scenesters' under it. You never know whos going to post it all over the net, ehh brakken? ;)
Secondly, you did contribute to that scene war and theres various posts on ps2HD where you get on your soapbox and help antagonise things between Damco/ps2hd and XianaiX and you know it.
