Earthworm Jim - Image 1Another classic from console generations past will once again get a breath of life in the new hardware. Gameloft is now hard at work in bringing Earthworm Jim out of the ground and back in the surface, freshened up big time with an HD overhaul. We've got more details about our favorite worm's comeback, so stick around for the goods.

The remake, still named Earthworm Jim, will be based on the 1994 classic on the Sega Genesis, and it will come with several difficulty levels and much smoother animations. The remake will not be handled by its original development team, but the music will still be the original by Tommy Tallarico. The "Big Bruty" level from the Sega CD and PC releases will also be included in the remake.

Gameloft is also considering a PSP Minis release, but the current plan is only to release Earthworm Jim into Xbox Live Arcade, then the PSN and WiiWare versions will follow a month later. Yes, Xbox 360 gets timed exclusivity. It's also likely that the App Store will get its own version as well. Worry not, Gameloft is making sure that each version is optimized for each platform, so no one will get the short end of the stick here.

Further details are still scarce, but you bet we'll let you know once we've got word.

If it's anything like the version I saw a lil while ago, no thanks. The original game's lovely pixelled smooth animations were pretty much perfect for this game. HD 2D games tend to look like cheap Flash stuff.

» Agreed

Not everything needs an HD Remix.

I'll just stick with my emulated Sega version, thx.

» yes but

im agreed u with emulators are good , but HD is required to play in a HD TV for Pixel SCALE and Multi SCREEN RATIO so you play with big spirit with smothed edges ( anti aliasing ) .

when i remember some emulators got nice Setigns to convert screens and scale pixels to get a HD game like .

I don't want smoothed pixels. I like the crisp low res pixels of the original games. All those optional filters in emulators and the like just destroy the fine work of the artists and render things looking either blurry or plastic or just plain awful.

» woot!

Once again MS gets the better deal. I love being a 360 owner. If I had to wait for literally EVERYTHING I wouldn't even play games anymore. Once sony gets the games they're already old news.

» huh?
