Monthly US Sales (July 2006) - All Systems Down |
Listed in: News Tags: Final Fantasy, GBA, Microsoft, North America, PS2
Ó
The NPD has released the numbers for July and they're all lower than they were in June. Although it was obvious sales of the DS would go down (June was launch month for the Lite in North America), every one of the other consoles also had a dip in sales. Well, I guess it's better to see the numbers first!NDS = 377,000
PS2 = 241,000
360 = 206,000
GBA = 163,000
PSP = 161,000
GCN = 44,000
XBX = 12,000
For the second month in a row, the Nintendo DS was on top. Obviously, continued sales of the DS Lite are helping. The GBA is also continuing to sell very well. It beat out the PSP by 2,000 units, which is a very small amount. The PSP and GBA have both sold 1.24 million units this year compared to the DS' 1.75 million. This means that people are finally moving from the GBA to the DS, something they obviously weren't doing last year. Since the launch of the DS, the GBA has sold 8.78 million units. The DS and PSP have sold 5.56 and 4.88 million respectively since their launches. They have some catching up to do!
The PS2 continues to outsell the Xbox 360. However, that's the least of Microsoft's worries. It was kind of obvious the PS2 would continue to do well, especially when upcoming releases like Final Fantasy XII and Tales of the Abyss show that the system has plenty of kick left. No, they should be worrying that the Xbox 360 has actually sold less than the Xbox did in the same timeframe. For a system that is trying to win first place in the console war, selling worse than a console that was 80 million units behind first place isn't promising. However, Gears of War and Halo 3 might be turning points so we'll just have to see! 360 software is doing VERY well with a tie-in ratio of 4.61 games per console!
GCN and Xbox are dead systems. We'll just leave it at that. Most have moved to Wii and Xbox 360 development. GCN is about 2 or 3 million away from the Xbox worldwide, so I guess Nintendo might be trying to overtake the Xbox eventually, but it might be too little too late.

now shut up, cause look whos in 2nd place and has been in first sence 1999, PS2. And looks whos been in last place sence the release, GC.
"most ppl are gonna shell 600 bucks over"
PS2 was released at $500.00, and it was extreamly hard to get for a good half a year. And people were buying them off people for 1,000+ dollars. The PS3 is not gunna sell bad because its a little pricey.

Well, just goes to show you, cheap systems will sell well. Ps2 wouldn't be at the top of the charts with a big price tag....most ppl are gonna shell 600 bucks over, the sales will show that.

Yeah but look at GameCube.... Still the sytem gotta have potentials for game makers to invest in it, Sony better grab this chance or they gonna be at the bottom of the gaming industry... Ill show my support by saving up and buying the 60(?)gig ps3, also... darn nintendo lovers... I don't know why but all the dumb kids at the middle school have 2 gbc (wtf sell it already) 2 gba, a gbasd, 2 gba micro and a nds, and a ds lite... Don;t they know nintendo is ripping them off? gbasd was totally unnecessary, and who the hell needs a gba micro? these people are dumb morons! combine all the cost together thats a psp right there... but they are too dumb, officialDS games aren't as good as psp games also... thats the strategy of nintendo, if you dumb nintendo fanboys and fangirls wanna fall for it, go ahead, stick with your low potential DS while we get everything developed for psp. also, because of how expensive ps3 is going to be, I would say it might not even outsell the 360... well ofcourse that is just a guess, and all you ps3 fanboys outthere better go out and buy a ps3 at launch day! we dont want the 360 to beat us right? lol...
I'd say is your ego keeping you from joining both sides, I am fine with having a ds and a psp, but cmon, some dumb ppl stand there guarding their ds like a god and dissing on the psp, even tho they know they lost(yes im serious) they still won't give up, persistent losers.
I'm not saying ds sucks, I'm just saying you guys are dumb for fighting over it...

[joking!]Oh and heres a kicker, that just shows how easily DS breaks and those people have to go out and buy another one[/joking!]
lol that was just a joke ok?

unlike 360, where you can stream all of your music (and photos) from your computer to your 360....without taking up any memory at all.....

First of all, the xbox 360 is $400
the controller is $50
games are $60 for the most part.
the ps2 is $99 on amazon.com
a dual shock is $20 bucks
most games are $30 and below.
Price of Xbox 360 with game and extra controller:
$510 + Tax
A PS2 with game and extra controller:
$150.
I don't feel like bringing out the PS2's end of first year figures...but I'd imagine that they were much lower than the 360. 360 games are constantly the top sellers of the month...
SO if you're a Sony fan....making fun of MS, then you can eat it. Gamers spent more than 3 times as much money on Microsoft than Sony. On top of that, most games that are sold for the PS2 are pre-owned...Sony doesn't see a dime from that. 360 games are not as numerous, so most copies are purchased brand new. I'm not even including LIVE on this.
--------
On the other hand. The PSP is doing really well compared to the DS. This is when the PSP has a losing UMD format, mostly lackluster games, and a huge homebrew community (and a lot of those guys pirate ISO'. I'm not talking about people on this site though)
I'm surprised the PSP is doing as well as it it. Japan caught on fast that the DS was for REAL gaming (flame me I don't care, I owned a PSP, I got sick of playing crappified ports) ...and the psp sorta got left behind. Even at last years E3
Sony hardly promoted the PSP...and yet it keeps on chugging.
If it wasn't for the homebrew community, Sony would be screwed. The people that don't make ISO loaders and all that...those are the only people keeping the PSP from falling into obscurity IMO.
Anyway. These numbers are pretty telling, MS is really picking up the pace. I can't even imagine the money they are making with LIVE.

I'm sure Sony gonna copy that too and allow you to stream stuff from your PC, like one of those location free player for pc or something like it.
No....your incorrect....360 uses a program called Windows Media Connect that works with Windows XP to stream media. I can gurantee Sony will not have that feature....
Well, they may ome up with something like a Location Free player....Except it wont be free at all...

1. the GameBoy brand has been around for practically 20 years. Nintendo has crushed every competitor that has entered the handheld market, exept Sony and the PSP (R.I.P. Game Gear, Atari Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, Wonderswan, N Gage).
2. the Playstation Portable has been around for *one* year, and yet still manages to hold it's own against the monopoly of the handheld market that Nintendo has had for said 20 years. the PSP is *not* trying to compete with the DS. Nintendo and Sony have two totally different markets (for Nintendo, it's the 8 to 17 year old market. for Sony, it's the 18 to 30 market. there's no conflict there except for the one fanboys love to create).
3. the PS1 has sold 100 million units. the PS2 has sold 100 million units *and counting* in half the time as it's predecessor. the N64 sold 40 million units. the Gamecube sold 25 million units. Nintendo's hardware sales have been increasingly dropping since the SNES days (the SNES sold 60 million units). this trend can be attributed to the fact that most of it's fanbase from the 80's (that would be me and the other over 20 somethings) grew up, got jobs, girlfriends, fiances, wives, etc, and our desire for more gaming content geared towards our age group. for nostalgia, go Nintendo, for adult oriented gaming, go Sony or Microsoft.
4. in it's first year, the PS2 sold 10 million units. it's the reason why Microsoft wants to have 10 million units available to the public by it's year mark. the problem, is that Microsoft doesn't have the brand loyalty of the masses that the Playstation has. blame it on the fact that Microsoft monopolizes the PC industry, and most folks across the globe view them as an evil, controlling corporation. not to mention the numerous issues that Windows has, and the tactics MS uses to get you to upgrade ("if you want to play cutting edge games like Crysis the way they're meant to be played, you'll have to buy Windows Vista!"). Sony has a history of making quality consumer electronics, and since they entered the gaming industry back in 1995, they've earned the trust and respect of gamers by having the games we wanted to play available only on their systems.
5. it needs to be accepted that the X Box 360 has failed miserably in Japan. it's just a fact. and because of that fact, Microsoft will *NEVER* be number one. at least not in this upcoming generation. unless they somehow manage to completely destroy Sony. but due to low trust with consumers, and the uber-strong and gigantic userbase of the Playstation brand, don't count on it. it's not a knock against the 360, it's just the facts. without the support of that key area, the 360 can't be number one (and before i get flamed: Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Contra, Super Mario Bros. Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Ninja Gaiden, Kingdom Hearts, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dragon Quest, Castlevania, DOA, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, and Street Fighter were all created by the Japanese. they are just as vital to gaming now as they were since the NES era).

but that is how it should be for every system....PS3 is going to be a good system, But (this is a educated opinon), Sony is NOT going to focus on online play as much as Microsoft....sorry, but that is a fact. Sony is going to focus on bringing the ultimate all in one entertainment system, nothing wrong with that. For me, I enjoy online play much more than single player, it doubles/triples the replay value....
Its all about finding the system right for you, PS3 is a safe choice for nice import games and a good Single player expiernece. Microsoft is focused alot more to the Online world....while Wii is going to be focused on pure games, and innovation....
all systems have somehting to offer different consumers, and it shouldn't matter who sales more than what, just that you get what you pay for.

Those who buy faceplates have no creativity in creating their own with what they have. You can paint this white plastic many colors, make your own!
I own all past consoles and will own the new ones. Each system has its good and bad points but they all have some descent proprietary games also.
I don't care who is the best, I just want to play games, damnit!

Honestly why are Sony owners so bloody insecure that they have to call the DS ***** all the time? They must be really worried about the sales to be talking like that all the time.

Anyone find it funny how the amount of PSPs and GBAs sold in the USA in one month (and DS before the Lite launched) is about the same amount of DSes sold in Japan in one week?

Or maybe #37, they just don't know how to paint? Would you rather have a proffesional $20 faceplate that looks great, or would you like to buy $50 in paint only to make the thing look like sh*t?

Person 2 says: ds suks
Now.. looking at this example we can form a conclusion that you are determined to say other systems in the market "suck" compared to your favorite. That forms all this useless nonsense. So, you like the DS, eh? Fine, I like the PSP. Conversation over.
Oh, and personally.. I like the PSP.

I thought to my self (this must be how the Japs are paying the white man back for hiroshima and nagosaki)
Any how in a rage i opend the damn thing and i noticed that all the parts inside were kind of rusted and torn and loose etc. I immediatly rang Sony and they said: talk to the Sony representative who is coming to one of your local game shops. So i went there with my parents, and boy did that arogant morone get a flaming in front of the public lol
After that i converted to Sega Dreamcast then the same thing happened with them (: but when i bought my XBOX. I used to play that beautiful piece of machinery all day and all night long for weeks long and no problems whats so ever lol Suck on that Sony and Nintendo ahahha.
