Monster Hunter 3 drives Wii to top spot in Media Create hardware charts |

Japan is without a doubt the Monster Hunter capital of the world, so what happens when you release the next big Monster Hunter title there on a new console? That console sells, of course. That's what happened with the Nintendo Wii, which saw sales quadruple following the release of Monster Hunter 3.
Wii sales for the week ending August 2 were at 95,357 units. The week prior to that, the Wii only moved about 24,000 units. It seems Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's plan to combat ailing Wii sales with big releases is paying off. I'd say Nintendo owes Capcom a gift basket or something.
Sales of the DSi, on the other hand, saw a bit of a dip, although it still has quite a lead over its closest competitor. With the Wii back on top, Sony's PSP handheld dropped back to third place. The PS3 took fourth place behind the DS Lite, while Microsoft's Xbox 360 console held the last spot behind the PS2.

Do they buy a Wii for each family member or what?...cant believe a console with terrible games for the most dominates the sales, funny Ps2 still beating 360 from time to time XD
Is there a word that's equivalant to racist for console owners? Because as much as i love the Japanese they really don't like any console made outside Japan.
you mean the 360? where would you get the idea that the only reason they don't buy a 360 is because it's made in America. Your the one who sounds racist in assuming their only factor in deciding to buy a console is where it was made. You don't think it would happen to have anything to do with Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII being PS3 exclusives in Japan or Yakuza 3, and the biggest 360 games happen to be shooters which are not big in japan.

QJ didnt post it but i was REALLY surprised to see that Gears of war 2 came 6th in the software charts while NOT even ONE ps3 game made it to the top 10.Well maybe japanese people are not that racist
I've been to Japan, it's not really what you'd call racist, the Japanese respect Americans and American culture, but there is a dislike of American products over there. Even tho the US provides Japan with the vast majority of its money by buying its products, those people don't buy our stuff.
i heard they cancelled the ps3 game and made this instead cause of high development costs its like capcom is avoiding making and online monster hunter the psp was only adhoc and now the wii
They might release the ultimare MHF game on PS3...I dont like the series but Imagine how big the world is gonna be and stuff
Don't even talk about the racist when it comes to Japan. Sure, the 360 isn't doing all the best in Japan, but right away, you can't just say it's a racist thing, like jrsmaster said, the 360s' top games are the shooters, and shooters aren't at the top every Japan gamers list of favorite genres.
In video games, there is no such racist thing, it's all on what you'd prefer. I was going to get a 360 just because SOLH(Star Ocean Last Hope) was made on the 360. And what was it...yes, it was an RPG game. I don't mind GoW2, but Halo, that junk needs to change. I don't even know why Halo did so well.

Halo is the game that makes Xbox sells are you crazy.Its like they mix halo with crack or something but the Japanese dnt get affected by it though, lol they are more hooked to anime, Rpg and big robots thats their crack!! market anything around that and it will sell in japan.
Halo WAS a good game. If you were in 2007 you would say its a good game but now its obviously not as good as we want it to be cuz its 2 years old
Its all a matter of preference. In my point of view, japanese gamers like fighting games and rpgs while American games like shooters. Also there isn't much 360 games in Japan and all they get are ports from the US version. Maybe thats why the 360 doesn't sell so well.
What i'm saying isn't that the Japanese are racist about foreign consoles, that was just a way to try to explain, if anything it's something more like patriotism.. Like American's used to have about their cars and other countries have about certain things.
Japanese can be pretty close-minded when it comes to videogames. Somewhere I read an interview with a japanese gamer, who said that most japanese saw the Xbox as the DOA Volleyball system. This particular person said that he bought it and found out that western games can be pretty good, but also said that most japanese don't think that way.
Shooters are very popular in NA, but they aren't the only kind of games the west has to offer.
An example of japanese idiosincracy is their attitude towards Kentucky Fried Chicken. They love it so much that many families have that for Christmas dinner, and have to make reservations. Yet, many of them think KFC is a japanese company... And they treat "gaijins" living there with contempt, regardless if they've been there for years and learned the language.
And that about "it's not discrimination, it's just they're mostly into RPG's and so" is just an excuse... they're just closed minded. Look at us! we love japanese and western games equally (well, each one has his/her own tastes). Well, it's not my problem, it's their loss.
patriotism as you're trying to describe it is veiled racism. It's not buying other people's stuff for fear, ignorance, or feelings of being superior.
but when it comes down to it it is not just a wii its Nintendo.It can suck all it wants look at it like this rap sucks but ppl still listen to it.

It's called xenophobia, it's not really racism, it's just trusting their own things more than others. Studies have shown that every culture has it. It's not that big of a deal.
The fact that the product fails or at least used to fail so often with the RROD that it gave a bad impression and they don't take crap like americans do?
I'll agree that they don't like other's stuff, but I cannot see it as being anything near as bad as racism.

That's funny. as much as i like the PS3 and PSP, I can count 2 games on the PS2 that I would ever want to play. But on the Wii there are now 10 (I am a picky gamer after all) and only a few for the PS3/360.
That and I prefer a powerful PC over any console...
But Monster Hunter 3 is absolutely brilliant, one of the best games this gen so far. I've only played a bit but it's much better than the PSP versions, which were amazing games too.
for others who use the wii im afraid vizard is right..kids are the ones that buy the wii and girls.. when you go to gamestop or other places you will see that people mostly buy a 360 or ps3 but im its true the only reason i still have my wii saves up in my closet (im more of a 360 user myself) is because i am waiting for monster hunter
i also have a nintendo wii some where in my closet.cuz nintendo knows money not games they sell all this hardware were the f#uck is the software or did they forget about that. think b4 you speak about consoles the 360 and ps3 has more grate games then the wii will ever have the wii is nothing but a gamecube.
yes but go store and look to who buy it , sure kids and chlidrens right , so thats it NWII is made for a simple gamer public with fast acces and stupid big head game and unfortunately its sell well and hate that .
